Got tickets a couple weeks back to tomorrow's tilt with the Yankees in the Bronx, and was planning on spending a nice, leisurely day in the city before heading over to the game.
Well plans change, and apparently I can't leave Litchfield County (Northwest corner of CT for the non-Nutmeggers) until around 3:30 or 4-- or I'm fired.
Any suggestions for good ways to getting to the Bronx in time for 7:05?
Driving seems to be fastest in good conditions, but obviously parking and rush hour are my biggest concerns, and I'm not in the mood to chance sitting on a bridge for two hours... The best plan I have come up with so far is to drive to like Croton Falls on Metro-North, hop on the 5:15 there, and get down to 125th/Harlem around 6:30-6:45 and haul ass to the subway a couple blocks away and just take the 4 over. (I've never taken it from 125th, how long am I talking here-- I'm guessing like 20 minutes). This whole sequence puts me at the stadium somewhere between 7:00 and 7:30-- not the end of the world, but pushing it, even if everything is on time--
Anyways, anyone from CT or upstate NY who has been to the Stadium before have any sneaky fast routes or secret maneuvers I could be tipped off to?

I would recommend going to a major Metro North station like Stamford or White Plains - your odds are much better of being able to catch an express train to the city and save some time. I've never done the 125th Street transfer, but the Lexington Ave. subway is only one block to the east. If the 4 train is running more or less on schedule and is not too crowded, it should be less than 10 minutes from there to 161st St. Good luck.

Bump.
So I'm going next Thursday.
But instead of coming from NW CT, I'm going from Ithaca, NY.
I'm trying to minimize travel time, particularly on the way home. I was thinking drive to Croton-Harmon and take Metro-North in and out. But I haven't done this trek before, so if anyone from upstate NY (think Rochester, 'Cuse, Binghamton, etc.) have any suggestions, I'm listening.

Where are you taking the Metro North to? The Morris Heights stop is the closest one, but it is still a ways away from the stadium. Are you going to take it into 125th street and then get onto the subway going back up to Yankee Stadium?
I'd head towards the Woodlawn stop on the 4 train. You'll find a ton of other Yankee fans park there alongside the Cemetary and Park then walk to the 4 train station and ride it to the stadium. I wouldn't leave anything valuable in the car since it is semi-sketch area if you make it tempting to people.

I read the first post in this thread and was wondering when the series was moved to NY.

I was gonna take Metro North to Croton-Harmon or Peekskill and ride the line down to 125th and switch over there.
I actually looked into Woodlawn-- the only problem being I'm not sure whether or not I should minimize driving time. That's a 4.5 hour haul vs. a 3 hour drive to somewhere on Metro-North-- although I would end up with a 2 hour train ride down and back vs. a shorter subway ride.
Is getting into Woodlawn from outside the city a difficult task?

It's right off of I-87 or it might be called the Major Deegan at that point. It's the 233rd street exit. You litterally follow that exit to a light. Go straight through the light and you'll see the cemetary on your left and forest to the right. Plus if it's Sox-Yankees it shouldn't be too far until you start to see all the cars parked alongside the road. Depending on how far you park back from the station it's like a 5 minute walk to the subway stop.
It's exit 13 if I recall correctly.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&...036993&z=15I personally don't see it as being difficult, but I'm used to driving around here.

I get off exit 6 when I go and park in lot 13B.

Yeah? How is it getting out of there after teh game? It's been murder for people I know since the new Stadium messed with people's routes and parking spaces.

If you are familiar with the layout of the are where the old Bronx market was. I get off Exit 6 and bear left at the fork. Do not park in the first lot on the right as all traffic after the game is diverted south bound on the Deegan. Go past the stop sign and park in the second lot on the right (I believe it's 13B). If you park here, you pull right out of the lot and take a right and then a fast left up the ramp to I-87 north. You will be on the highway within 10 minutes. I would advise getting there early (like 1 1/2 to 2 hours before game time). I don't know your opinion on leaving a game early, but if the game is a blowout either way, I normally leave after the 8th and get right on.
