Game time: 8:05 pm EDT

Scheduled starters: Daisuke Matsuzaka (6-2, 4.08) v. Brandon McCarthy (4-4, 5.82)

The game will be on NESN.

Arlington weather:

noon CDT observation at KGKY: Wind out of the east at 5 mph, visibility 10 miles in light rain, few clouds at 500 feet, broken clouds at 1,900 feet and 8,500 feet, temperature 70F, DP 65F.

noon CDT observation at KDFW: Wind out of the east at 3 mph, visibility 2.5 miles in rain, fog, and mist, 500 feet scattered, 1,100 feet broken, 1,700 feet overcast, temperature 72F, DP 68F

Forecast: This does not look good... There's a low sitting over north Texas, and the satellite images show bands of precip, some of it heavy, pinwheeling around the low. Parts of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area got 2-4 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. There's some convective activity associated with the rain, but that seems to be to the south of DFW right now. The NWS has "chance of thunderstorms" for Dallas/Ft. Worth, but no box warnings. There are box warnings for flash flooding in the area, but not at Arlington or DFW.

This could be dicey... All stations around Arlington are reporting rain right now, with light rain at the Arlington Muni Airport (KGKY). Dallas Love Field is reporting a thunderstorm at noon CDT.

It'll be warm and humid tonight, and maybe wet. The wind will be predominantly out of the east to southeast, which is blowing in from center/left center.

I'll provide updates as we get closer to game time.

PLEASE be a rain out. I have tix for tomorrow night. I'd much rather see Daisuke pitch than Wakes, who I've seen 8857756630 times. (seemingly) They can do a DH on Sunday, so as not to effect me.
RedSoxAnni
Right now, it isn't raining in Arlington, but there is light rain at DFW. The system is moving north/northeast, and there's some heavy rain with convective activity south of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I suspect that they'll be able to start this game, but it looks like a good chance for some rain before it's over.
RedSoxAnni
The 6 pm CDT local reports have light rain through the area. There's heavier rain to the south.

And the Angels are leading the Yankees 1-0 after 1.

Start Delayed
Posted by Tony Massarotti at 7:22 pm

The Texas Rangers just announced that te start of tonight’s game will be delayed fr an unspecified amount of time, though it will be at least 8:15 p.m. EDT before we have any additional updates. Indications are that the teams will have another meeting at that time to determine a potential starting time, but we stress again that the game appears to be in jeopardy and that the Red Sox are resisting the idea of playing a doubleheader tomorrow. (See below.)

According to a pressbox announcement, heavy rain is expected for the next hour. or so. There is a chance the rain will dissipate after that stretch.

http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/redSox/

Looks like they're going to try to get this in tonight.
czar
Judging by the radar, heavier rain should be moving in around or a little after game time. I can't see them playing in that. However, if the precipitation shield holds true, and they really want to get this game in, the impending line of heavier rain should be out and done with by about 9:30 ET-- there will likely be some lighter showers/mist, but they should be able to play if the umpires want to play it tonight... Obviously development of additional cells behind the current line could throw a wrench into that plan, but the fact that there are no warnings or even significant watches in the area leads me to believe that the RUC models and nowcasters don't have any big boomers popping up and rolling through the area in the next 3-4 hours.

Like Anni said, Arlington Municipal Airport's last METAR (6:53 EST) reading is still reporting light rain, but areas to the south and east (Midlothian-Waxahachie Midway Airport) were reporting heavier rain at 7:05 EST

EDIT: Looking at gerky's post, it looks like the teams are thinking along those lines as well...

Thanks for the Angels/Yanks update Anni.
Youuuuk!
Bleh, I hope they can get it in.. It's getting to be ridiculous the number of rain delays/cancelations we've had lately.
Another double header would not be good.

Rain Delay until at least 9 pm EDT.
samba guy
I tell you who likes postponned games: JD Drew. At least thats's what he's been saying, that having those off days is helping him wth his sore back.

By the way, Sosa's got a big number for HRs. Any chance he's juicing again?
Pedro El Grande
Im "loving" this rain delay since Im watching the Angels ******* the MFY.

I got tickets to Tuesday, as I am sure a lot of you do, but if theres a rain out tonight and no DH tomorrow, would I still see Beckett?
RedSoxAnni
Estimated start time - 9:50 pm. They're going to try to get this one in.

There's still light rain in the area, but the worst of it should be through the DFW area in about an hour. After that, it looks like some light drizzle.
Pedro El Grande
Gotta love Dumbo being thrown out at the plate to end the MFY's rally.

Seeeeeee ya, a 2-run homer for Figgins!
8-3 Angels

10-3 by the way
RedSoxAnni
Sac fly... 10-3 Angels, runners on second and third, two outs.
Pedro El Grande
Any Red Sox updates?

Edit: From SOSH via NESN....first pitch at 10 PM
Ralpho316
I dunno whats scarier, the fact that Alan Embree is on my fantasy or that I am watching his start more seriously than the Sox rain delay updates.
NJSoxFan
MLB EI says the game was postponed ...
Ralpho316
I am watching the scroll at the bottom of NESN saying its on @ 10

The start time is posted at the top of the thread!

Well I'm glad this game finally got going. Let's Go Sox!!!

Daisuke was lucky to get out of this inning. Now the Sox have the top of the 2nd starting in much the same way.
Millar Time
Bases loaded, let's go Tek!!!

that's adding insult to injury.
And everyone knows Bernie would have got the ball to home plate on 322-325 hops.

Is there a final on this one yet?

10-6 to the Halos

The Yankee Clippard wasn't quite as impressive in his second start as in his first.
MDKing
Dice-K still misses his location by a lot, but he hasn't really been hurt by it.
Pedro El Grande
Never saw Dice-K before walk back to the dugout that way...
