Game time: 8:05 pm EDT
Scheduled starters: Tim Wakefield (4-5, 3.14) v. Vicente Padilla (2-6, 5.52)
The game will be on NESN.
Arlington weather:
2 pm CDT observation at Arlington Muni: Wind out of the southeast at 17 mph with gusts to 26 mph; visibility 10 miles; 1,600 scattered, 2,100 broken, 4,300 overcast; temperature 75F, DP 67F
2 pm CDT observation at KDFW: Wind out of the southeast at 20 mph with gusts to 28 mph; visibility 10 miles; 2,100 scattered, 3,100 broken, 7,000 broken, 30,000 overcast; temperature 76F, DP 66F
Forecast: Unsettled. The northern end of the line of storms that went through the DFW area is breaking up, but there's widespread rain and a line of thunderstorms to the south. There's new development of cells upstream, though, and the air mass over north Texas is very moist. The PWAT values are over 1.5 inches, and we are likely to see tropical downpours in the area. The cells aren't covering large areas. Both Arlinton Muni and DFW, both of which are about five miles from Rangers Ballpark, recorded about 0.1 inch of rain in the last 24 hours, but the Ft. Worth Naval Air Station has recorded over 1.5 inch, and Waco, which is maybe 100 miles south, recorded over 3 inches.
Right now, there's some light rain in the Ft. Worth area, but no where else. The problem as the evening progresses will be developing rainshowers, some with tropical downpours. There's also the wind. All the local stations are reporting gusty southeast winds. The wind will remain southeast to south, which is blowing in. The gusts may result in some turbulence with those buildings out in center.
Updates to follow.

Cora is 6-18 against Padilla - who cares if they're all singles? He always does something to help you win a ballgame.

It would be the first time the Sox led the division by that many since 9/17/1995. It would be the biggest pre-All Star Game lead in the division or league in team history (the 07 Sox already hold that record).

I really should add something to make this post more relevant...
I know, here's a stat: Papi is 4-for-10 against Padilla, 2 2B, 2 HR, 2 BB. No strikeouts. Expect a shower of runs.

I'm with Mirabelli on that strike 3. Catcher set up 6 inches off the plate. No way that pitch ever got any part of the plate.
Oh well. Have to take the bat off your shoulder at some point.
Padilla is tough when he's actually able to get ahead of hitters.

95% of ML 3B make that play. Lowell is great on routine plays or ones requiring one step either way, but beyond that its a double. Insanely overrated defender.

I'm not defending the other stuff Wakefield gave up, but did you even see the play? Either he gets awful reads, or he has awful lateral range.

Thank God-- I would have had to call for Lugo's head had that ball carried over the fence in CF.
And Papelbon is looking very hittable these days. I'm not sure what's with the dropoff in velocity, and lack of command, but it's not really a great trend.

Plus he's throwing a lot more sliders than he ever used to, like he's trying to compensate for his lack of velocity.
