Game time: 3:05 pm EDT
Scheduled starters: Julian Tavarez (3-4, 5.27) v. Kameron Loe (1-4, 6.38)
The game will be on NESN.
Arlington weather:
11 am CDT observation at Arlington Muni: Wind out of the south at 12 mph with gusts to 18 mph, visibility 10 miles in light rain, few clouds at 11,000 feet, temperature 71F, DP 66F (note, the Arlington Muni observation is from ASOS, an automated system, and it often doesn't report clouds above 12,000 feet. I suspect there's a high ceiling.)
11 am CDT observation at KDFW: Wind out of the south at 8 mph, visibility 10 miles in light rain, few clouds at 4,700 feet, 8,500 feet broken, 30,000 feet overcast, temperature 71F, DP 66F.
Forecast: Possible wet, as in very wet. An upper level trough through central Texas combine with a very moist air mass and PWAT values above 1.5 inches could mean tropical type downpours through the afternoon. These rainstorms tend to be spotty and have limited coverage, so it isn't going to rain everywhere all the time. A couple cells came through earlier, with thunderstorms reported by most stations.
The wind will remain south/southeast, which is blowing in.
Updates to follow, but a rain delay is possible...

Clubhouse insiderQUOTE
Just came from the clubhouse and you should know that David Ortiz is absent from the lineup. Ortiz has been dragging of late - he has had a flu, etc. - and he has experienced some tightness in his hamstrings, so manager Terry Francona has elected to give him the day off. Ortiz should be back in the lineup tomorrow night.
Also, unsurprisingly, Francona confirmed that closer Jonathan Papelbon will not be available after pitching each of the last two days.
“He won’t pitch today,'’ Francona said.

"His hammys are barking," said Francona.QUOTE
In his place, Kevin Youkilis, who is batting .352, will hit third, while Eric Hinske will assume Ortiz' role as the DH. Interesting here that Hinske is the DH and not Manny Ramirez.
Here's the Sox lineup:
SS Julio Lugo
CF Coco Crisp
1B Kevin Youkilis
LF Manny Ramirez
RF J.D. Drew
3B Mike Lowell
C Jason Varitek
DH Eric Hinske
2B Dustin Pedroia
SP Julian Tavarez
I'll go a step further. Interesting that Manny doesn't move into the DH slot, yes. But more interesting that Hinske gets the call over Wily Mo. Interesting as in "How can you not get Wily Mo some at bats in Texas - in that ballpark, and against their pitching?"
Disappointing.

I know Eric Hinske's a good guy who plays the game the right way and everything, but when it comes down to it he's still batting .188
Did Wily Mo run over Tito's dog or something?
Ortiz being out is unfortunate, but hopefully he rests it and gets better...I have tickets to the game tomorrow night and I don't want him to be out

I want to hear Tito's thoughts on WMP and Hinske because he obviously values Hinske more so than WMP.

Yankees just walked in the tying run. Bases loaded, 1 out for the Angels. Nice. Erick Aybar was down 0-2, looked about as disciplined as a prison riot at the plate...and then somehow worked the walk.
Proctor just walked in the go-ahead run!

Remember when everyone wanted Crisp benched for WMP-- maybe they ACTUALLY should be just playing next to each other...

If you're a reliever scheduled for free agency this winter, you've got to be seeing dollar signs coming from the Bronx.

I would be ok with WMP as the DH but I'm glad they didn't DH manny and put WMP in the field. Manny is no gem in the field but he is SO much better than WMP. Also I like Hinske, he hasn't gotten many ABs this year and I think he will pull his avg up the more he gets some ABs.
Also Drew is really disapointing.

I'm not giving up on Drew, his track record of a high OPS speaks for itself. It's just been a bit frustrating thusfar that all his extra base hits seem to come with nobody on base, and that he hasn't got the big hit with runners on. He should come around though.
Tavarez looks good again. He's been better than Schilling to this point.
Pena should be getting more ABs. One of the few things I've liked about Francona is that he does things with a logical backing, and not just the archaic Jimy Williams "Because I had a gut feeling" crap. But the way he's handling Hinske and Pena seems like just that Grady/Jim crap. I understand that Hinske goes hard for every fly ball and plays the game "the right way", and had that one monster game with the catch and homer, but he's still batting .188. Even in Pena's limited ABs, he's been better than that.

Angels up 4-2 at the end of 7. Lackey got away with making a terrible 0-2 pitch to Jeter with a man on 1st. Jeter lined it down the right field line. I immediately changed back to the Sox game, assuming bad news. But no. Wound up only being 2nd and 3rd. Then Lackey got Matsui to ground out to first. Kind of an ugly feed from Kotchman to Lackey on the play...but they got the out.
Somebod better go deep off of Kam Loe today.

We all know what Hinske can do. He is no more than a situational player and is great filling in here and there. But WMP needs at bats. He has the potential to be much more than Hinske ever was. There is no excuse for not playing him today, it's shortsighted and stupid...

Which is why I would have no problem with him being the DH today. But anytime he takes any outfield position it worries me. I would rather have Hinske in LF and make manny the DH.

Well, you are right. But as I said, not playing him today is terrible. The Sox though have to understand that they have a project player in WMP and he won't get better without any consistent playing time. Lately Hinske is playing much more despite hitting terrible...

Joined the game just in time to see the Captain do his thing. A bit disappointed that it took four innings to get this far. This game should not be competitive at all.
Even I, no friend of WMP, think he should be DHing today. Can't be that Hinske has great numbers against Loe (can it?). No fathomable reason comes to mind.

I love how after winning the finale against the Mets and two of three from us, Yankee fans started talking **** again like they were back and on a roll.
Now, not even four days later, they find themselves farther out than they were before their mini hot streak.
