Maybe our former pitching coach and manager is responsible for the Empire's demise.

Truth is, however, there is a major division developing in the New York office of Yankees management. Yes, two years ago Cashman won a power struggle with the Tampa brass, getting total control, but all is not well. Joe Kerrigan, who was a clubhouse mole when he was on the coaching staff in Montreal, Boston and Baltimore, is now filling that role in the Bronx, eroding what had been a strong relationship between Torre and Cashman, according to several close to the Yankee world.

that would make sense...Kerrigan has ruined clubs wherever he has gone.

Oh well, there gain in the front office is our gain in the standings whistle.gif

I always thought it was, um, interesting that someone with Kerrigan's experience as a pitching coach ini the majors was relegated to being the bullpen coach in NY. It's as if Torre said where can I put this guy to keep him as far the frig away from me as I can.

Maybe I've just had too much coffee, or not enough, but I don't get it. If Torre and Cashman had such a strong relationship, why would Cashman even WANT a "mole?" Or by mole, do they mean that Kerrigan is just a power-hungry SOB who tries to drive wedges between the manager and the front office? What's the context here?

Exactly. Kerrigan would sell his soul to be a manager again. Strangely enough, that is probably the only way someone would let him run their ball club since, you know, he sucks. But yea, that's the rumor, IIRC. He is trying to come between Cashman and Torre so he can muscle into the gig. Too bad for him the Yankees have about thirty five ex managers on their coaching staff, and Mattingly is going to be the next manager.
