Game time: 8:05 pm
Scheduled Starters: Andy Pettitte (3-4, 2.51) v. Josh Beckett (8-0, 2.65)
The game will be on ESPN.
Boston weather:
3 pm observation at KBOS: Wind out of the northeast at 9 mph, visibility 2 miles in light rain, mist, and fog, ceiling at 500 overcast, temperature 56F, DP 54F
Forecast: Barry's on the way, or at least what's left of him. The cloud shield from tropical depression Barry has extended into the area, and the edge of the rain from Barry is approaching Philadelphia. The intermittent light rain in the Boston area right now is associated with the warm front that's settled around Plymouth/Hartford. There are some thunderstorms south of that line, but nothing north of it.
The good news about Barry's remnants is that they are moving slowly, and the heavy rain shouldn't get to Boston until later in the evening, after the game has started. But there are still scattered light showers around, and it could be raining at game time. The bad news about Barry is that when it gets here we'll have periods of very heavy tropical-like rain. The system has a lot of tropical characteristics, with bands of heavy rain circulating around the low. It's going to rain hard until sometime late Monday.
It's going to be cool tonight, in the 50s or low 60s, with an east wind at around 10 mph. That will be blowing in. Wear mittens!

Barry's been moving through NC this morning, wasn't too bad in my area.
Let's root for the Sox to put the Yanks 14.5 back!
Go Red Sox!

Any weather update at 4PM ET?
Looking good? More rain? Getting postponed?

No rain in Boston this hour. The rain observed at 3 pm was not from Barry. Boston still has two miles in fog and mist, with a northeast wind.
I don't think the game will be called. They'll start on time. They might end up playing in light rain, though.
There's light rain at LGA now at the edge of the rain shield. I think it'll start light rain in Boston around 9 pm, and heavier rain around 11-12.

from the LoHud.com blogger, peter abraham:
Much like the Yankees, the New York media is a total disgrace.
Our long winning streak against the Boston media came to an end this morning as we were beaten 14-7 at Fenway Park. It was our first loss since 2001.
We were up 4-0 after knocking around Tony Massarotti of the Herald in the first inning. But our pitching and defense didn’t hold up. Tyler Kepner of the Times hung in until the bottom of the third when assorted defensive mistakes did us in.
Then, believe it or not, we nearly had a brawl with the Boston media. New York reliever Bob Klapisch accidentally hit Boston Spanish radio broadcaster Uri Berenguer in the helmet with a pitch.
Berenguer took Kevin Youkilis-like exception to the pitch and tempers flared on both sides. Boston manager Carl Beane, the Fenway Park PA announcer, had to be held back from attacking a few of our guys. Beane manages the game wearing an entire Red Sox uniform. I kid you not.
I will say this about the New York media, we don’t back down when the benches clear. We were more riled up than the Yankees were on Friday night. I wish I were kidding, but I’m not. We were a few seconds away from a full-out scrap.

Bridgeport was reporting rain at 6 pm. The beginning of the Barry-associated rain will take another 3-4 hours to get into the Boston area. The heavy rain won't be here until around midnight.
It will be nearly 40 degrees colder at the start of tonight's game compared to last night's.

Light rain at Hartford and New London at 8 pm. The light rain should be in the Boston area in about 2-3 hours, but they should get the game in.
