Game time: 8:05 pm

Scheduled Starters: Andy Pettitte (3-4, 2.51) v. Josh Beckett (8-0, 2.65)

The game will be on ESPN.

Boston weather:

3 pm observation at KBOS: Wind out of the northeast at 9 mph, visibility 2 miles in light rain, mist, and fog, ceiling at 500 overcast, temperature 56F, DP 54F

Forecast: Barry's on the way, or at least what's left of him. The cloud shield from tropical depression Barry has extended into the area, and the edge of the rain from Barry is approaching Philadelphia. The intermittent light rain in the Boston area right now is associated with the warm front that's settled around Plymouth/Hartford. There are some thunderstorms south of that line, but nothing north of it.

The good news about Barry's remnants is that they are moving slowly, and the heavy rain shouldn't get to Boston until later in the evening, after the game has started. But there are still scattered light showers around, and it could be raining at game time. The bad news about Barry is that when it gets here we'll have periods of very heavy tropical-like rain. The system has a lot of tropical characteristics, with bands of heavy rain circulating around the low. It's going to rain hard until sometime late Monday.

It's going to be cool tonight, in the 50s or low 60s, with an east wind at around 10 mph. That will be blowing in. Wear mittens!

Barry's been moving through NC this morning, wasn't too bad in my area.

Let's root for the Sox to put the Yanks 14.5 back!

Go Red Sox!

Any weather update at 4PM ET?
Looking good? More rain? Getting postponed?

RedSoxAnni
No rain in Boston this hour. The rain observed at 3 pm was not from Barry. Boston still has two miles in fog and mist, with a northeast wind.

I don't think the game will be called. They'll start on time. They might end up playing in light rain, though.

There's light rain at LGA now at the edge of the rain shield. I think it'll start light rain in Boston around 9 pm, and heavier rain around 11-12.

from the LoHud.com blogger, peter abraham:

Much like the Yankees, the New York media is a total disgrace.

Our long winning streak against the Boston media came to an end this morning as we were beaten 14-7 at Fenway Park. It was our first loss since 2001.

We were up 4-0 after knocking around Tony Massarotti of the Herald in the first inning. But our pitching and defense didn’t hold up. Tyler Kepner of the Times hung in until the bottom of the third when assorted defensive mistakes did us in.

Then, believe it or not, we nearly had a brawl with the Boston media. New York reliever Bob Klapisch accidentally hit Boston Spanish radio broadcaster Uri Berenguer in the helmet with a pitch.

Berenguer took Kevin Youkilis-like exception to the pitch and tempers flared on both sides. Boston manager Carl Beane, the Fenway Park PA announcer, had to be held back from attacking a few of our guys. Beane manages the game wearing an entire Red Sox uniform. I kid you not.

I will say this about the New York media, we don’t back down when the benches clear. We were more riled up than the Yankees were on Friday night. I wish I were kidding, but I’m not. We were a few seconds away from a full-out scrap.

6 pm observation at Logan: Wind out of the north at 10 mph, visibility 1.25 miles in fog and mist, ceiling 500 overcast, temperature 54F, DP 52F.

Bridgeport was reporting rain at 6 pm. The beginning of the Barry-associated rain will take another 3-4 hours to get into the Boston area. The heavy rain won't be here until around midnight.

It will be nearly 40 degrees colder at the start of tonight's game compared to last night's.

RedSoxAnni
Light rain at Hartford and New London at 8 pm. The light rain should be in the Boston area in about 2-3 hours, but they should get the game in.

MTSUDaff
Chalk up another great effort by Crisp there.
Ralpho316
Jorge Posada = Contract Year
cracker
Is Manny playing shallow? I couldn't tell...
Red Sox Fan2
Douple play, please?

Or K him smile.gif
Yazfest
cmon Beckett, lets keep it at 1-0
MiniBruceHurst
Not that it wasn't a tough play, but that run is on Lugo to me.
Lesbian BoyFriend
Comeon Boys, gotta get that run back
Red Sox Fan2
Just work the pitch count on Pettitte. I'd rather risk playing from behind in the 5-6th against the Yankee pen (Scott Proctor).
Lesbian BoyFriend
WOW Youk almost took off Pettitte's head with the bat
BostonSox37
Holy shit. I thought that was gone for sure.
Lesbian BoyFriend
Freakin wind, Lowell jacked that one but the wind knocked it down for an out
Red Sox Fan2
I hate wind.

Jeter limping smile.gif

ahhh wind again. The archillies heel of the Sox.
BostonSox37
The wind is absolutely killing us. Damn.
cracker
That was one of the worst jumps I've ever seen, and Morgan is wetting himself. Ugh.
MTSUDaff
That was one hell of a play by Cabrera there.
Red Sox Fan2
Stop hitting it to them. enraged.gif
polarbare
Nice jump by Lugo..
MFLetou
K-Zone or not, that pitch is not a strike 95% of the time.
beatlesfab4fan
Note to Joe effin Morgan...Ted Williams was in the USMC NOT the Army....What an asshat..

Mike
Ralpho316
Who says asshat?

Anyways, come on Beckett.
BigSlick
Lugo scares me sometimes.

Anyways, come on Beckett.

I'm a huge fan of asshat. Assfarmer is also useful from time to time.
beatlesfab4fan
Ralpho, I think you missed the bigger point...Joe Morgan sucks worse than ever.

Mike
Red Sox Fan2
bases loaded for A-Fraud
Leephus Pitch
Well, giving up hits to Phelps and Cabrera and a walk to Abreu is not a good way to keep this thing 1-0.

See what I mean?
Lesbian BoyFriend
Well that sucked

MTSUDaff
what a bullshit pair of RBI's. about as bullshit as Lugo's game winning grounder in that comeback
SplendidSamuel
Wow, I hate A-rod's purple-lipped smirk more than anything in the world.
Red Sox Fan2
well this game offically sucks. Why can't we beat the damn Yankees anymore? Toronto blanked them with a 5+ ERA pitchers.

Still have some faith in a comeback.....

nvm.
Lesbian BoyFriend
I f*cking hate that stupid dick

Looks like Josh is back to trying to blow pitches by the hitter instead of actually pitching.
Ralpho316
Unless we can get Pettite out of there soon, might hafta chalk this upto the L column
Lesbian BoyFriend
And josh gets the K with the Fastball. We REALLY REALLY REALLY need to respond this inning.
BigSlick
I would like a nice 34 pitch inning with at least 3 runs now please.
TreeRol
C'mon Julio... just strike out.
Lesbian BoyFriend
Bases loaded, no outs. Even COCO was waiting on pitches. Does someone in the dugout finally understand the idea behind being patient at the plate?
MTSUDaff
Here comes Lugo, the rally killer.
Lesbian BoyFriend
Lugo is a dumbass, he misses easy ground balls and now he's giving strikes to the pitcher.
czeckswing
Something's happening here, what it is ain't exactly clear.
Lesbian BoyFriend
Pettitte is at 78 pitches

79, lugo worked it to 3-2

Your wish has been granted thumbdown.gif

At least he made Pettitte throw a few extra pitches.
MTSUDaff
seriously, lugo blows some major ass. that was right down the middle.
