Let's see. Johnson. Hmm. Randy Johnson. Somewhere, I've heard that name before. Isn't he the guy who made such a big deal about going to New York to win some rings, then lasted - what - two years in pinstripes before running back to the desert with his tail between his legs? Let's remind him of why he wanted to get out of the AL East. This is a big match-up for Dice-K. He needs to keep up with Schill and Beckett. And I'll bet he's psyched to be squaring off against the Unit. Go get 'em, boys.
First pitch scheduled for 10:40 p.m. Vienna time. Now I know what East Coasters have been experiencing all week...

What is Francona fu**ing obsession with Crisp all about? Why is he batting #2 again?

i've heard that dice-k swings the bat really well. This will be awesome if he strokes 2-3 hits and crisp draws the collar again. fwiw, crisp is 2 for 7 against RJ with 2 doubles and 5 k's. WMP is 1-16, so I'm disappointed Drew is sitting, even against RJ.
this coco crisp business is going to get pretty ugly over the next few weeks.

I get the feeling that Tito doesn't have his best brain out tonight. Why not slide WMP into CF and bring Drew over to RF? I know he's got problems with lefties, but Drew has been on FIRE in this series, including a 3-5 showing last night. He needs to be in this game.
EDIT: Especially with Ortiz out, we NEED Drew's bat today. I get the feeling there will be many outs coming out of our #1-2 spots today. Ugh. I just feel bad thinking that we're not really bringing the best possible lineup out there today.

I don't mind sitting Drew at all, but the continued giving away of outs before the big boppers is clinically insane.

That's what I was thinking too, JVB. I mean, Lugo's batting .214 and Coco is batting .224 - and this RIGHT before the heart of the order is coming to bat. If the team was smart they could slide Drew over to bat #2/5, and have Youks bat whichever spot Drew isn't occupying. I just don't see why Tito is so insistant on having Lugo and Coco back-to-back. Neither of them has proven much, save for Lugo who has shown he is at least an excellent runner.

Great hit, great block by Coco.
So, Johnson has a 7-1 record against Boston with a 4-somthing ERA.
Lets see how he does today without NY's offence to bail him out.

What was that gesture RJ gave 'Tek after the K on the high heat? I don't think I liked it. Somebody needs to send one right back at his head.
I don't like giving up walks.
Dice-K throws 100 mph? I think their gun's a bit off.
I like backward Ks a lot better than I like walks (when Boston is pitching).

Hmmm. That could explain why RJ is throwing in the mid-90s after back surgery. Operation Fragile Ego is in effect in D-Back Land.

WMP is now 2 for 16 lifetime against RJ, with seven strikeouts. DBacks announcers think that means he struggles against the unit. Actually, that's about par for our right fielder tonight.

So did Coco Crisp. At some point 2-dimensional hitters get figured out. The book on WMP is pretty obvious at this point. He'll either adjust and become serviceable or he'll disappear.

Nice job by Dice-K not getting flustered by Lowell's error, and reaching back and K-ing the next two batters.
Of course..one of the next two was Johnson, but that's not the point.

It's really depressing to watch this game on Mosaic.
They list a running box score next to the game. You get to see Lugo's .211 batting average and Crisp's .226 average in the top two spots in the line-up. It's one thing for these two players to have averages that low in April, it's another thing to see it in mid-May.

What is the point of saving Ortiz for later innings?
You have one of their weakest bullpen arms (a rookie, RHP, making his 2nd MLB appearence), no outs, the go ahead run at the plate (Ortiz). So why are you bunting with two weak bats coming up? What a joke.
