Game time: 7:05 pm

Scheduled starters: Aaron Cook (4-2, 4.54) v. Tim Wakefield (5-7, 4.22)

The game will be on NESN.

Boston weather:

2 pm observation at KBOS: Wind out of the east southeast at 9 mph, visibility 10 miles, scattered clouds at 3,400 feet, broken clouds at 6,000 and 8,000 feet, temperature 69F, DP 56F

Forecast: We are sitting between a low just south of Nova Scotia, and a high over the Great Lakes. Over the past two days, bands of rain and thundershowers have circulated around the low through NE. Because the circulation is counterclockwise, the bands are moving northeast to southwest. The low is drifting to the southwest, and the bands will meet up with the high pressure ridge off to the west, resulting in some rain and possibly thunder later today. The flow at the coast and in the upper air is out of the northeast, and that is keeping the air cool and relatively stable near the coast, so the greatest chance for thunder will be inland.

Right now, there's a line of thunderstorms just west of the Mass/NY line, but remember that it is moving to the southwest, and not toward Boston.

At game time, there will be a chance of showers, but most likely not enough to delay the game. It will be in the 60's, with an east wind, which is blowing in.

Tonight's lineup according to an unattributed SoSH post and now confirmed by the globe:
Pedroia
Youkilis
Ortiz
Manny
Drew
Lowell
Crisp
Belli
Lugo

I wonder whether Lowell will get an IBB if there are runners on and a base open. I'm happy to see an order that makes sense OBP wise. Did Tito get a talking-to after the brainfart that was Sunday's lineup?

Rox:
1. Willy Taveras, CF
2. Kaz Matsui, 2B
3. Matt Holliday, LF
4. Todd Helton, 1B
5. Garrett Atkins, 3B
6. Brad Hawpe, RF
7. Ryan Spilborghs, DH
8. Troy Tulowitzki, SS
9. Yorvit Torreabla, C

samba guy
I don't like the fact that the guy hired to leadoff has to bat 9th because of lack of ability.

But it's compensated by the fact that the guy hired to bat 9th is leading off because of lots of ability.

Play for the win!
killjoy
It is absolutely POURING in NYC right now. How's it looking up there?

The weather is fine here. It's cool, and there's a northeast wind off the ocean. As I noted in the first post, there's a chance of showers, but nothing that should affect the game. The atmosphere is cool and stable here in the eastern part of the state. What you are seeing out in NYC is the result of lift from the bands circulating around the low mixing with the high pressure ridge.
WinAgain
Nice show of solidarity by the Sox. Three tap-outs to the mound in tribute to Lugo.
BigSlick
Wakefield sure has looked good. 6 outs in only 21 pitches.
BigSlick
9 outs 31 pitches....

Am I just talking to myself?
killjoy
Wake with only 31 pitches through three innings, but needs some help from the hometown bats.....
rominer
Who's that new guy in the #9 slot? He can hit!
amanuel777
When Lugo hits, miracles happen. tongue.gif
killjoy
Attaboys!
amanuel777
And Aron Cook quick to get Papi out of the way. biggrin.gif

Where's Czar, I'm surprised he's not ballwashing Wakefield already
SFFM38
Come on lets get 4 or 5 more runs because its hard to predict which inning wakey to start crapping out
czeckswing
$14 million sure buys a lot of ground ball outs these days.
Youuuuk!
Something tells me these guys haven't seen knuckleballs very much =P.

Either that, or Wake is sharp tonight.
SFFM38
****ing Bobby Abreu 3 runs shot! looking like they will be .500 after tonight win! banghead.gif

Sup, man.

But seriously. Maybe we should bench Wakefield. He's pretty washed up. Get Gabbard up here. Hell yes.
rominer
Before tomorrow's game, someone should tell JD Drew that Fenway is an NL park.
matty2578
This game is disgusting.
killjoy
C'mon boys, PICK WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This one run crap will not stand.
czeckswing
Heck of a play by Coco. Off the bat I thought that was easily a hit because it was hit so softly.
Quint
Just can't put the Rockies away with some offense.
Wake will need a brown paper bag if they blow this game.
bigbilly
I thought the pen was fully rested - I know Wake is at a low number of pitches, but why not Okajima in the 8th, Paps in the 9th?

Edit- I guess it's time to hit the "Stupid Managing" thread.
killjoy
Just heard radio announcers say that Okajimer is warming.

DAMMIT.
matty2578
Tied...wonderful.
Quint
Bugger!
There goes the shut-out rolleyes.gif
rominer
Cue Carlin's 7 words.
matty2578
Pedroia! Nice.

OK, pinch run Cora - need some more speed.
Quint
Nice swing there, Youk.
A little unlucky.
SoxFan4Life
Soooooo close... damn
TreeRol
Verlander on ESPN. 26 down, 1 to go.

Edit: Got it! No hitter for Verlander at home. Well done!
BostonSox37
JD needs to get the run home here, or the morons at the Fens are going to boo the shit out of him. He needs this one.
Albert P. Schlegg
Sox up and Verlander throws a no-no
czeckswing
Drew comes threw.

Wow, great job for him. Milwaukee has some good hitters, too.
czar
Verlander's stuff was so freakin' sick that inning.
Quint
It's up to you Mr Drew.

Good job!
Sac fly is good enough for me.

Crikey! Verlander throws a no-no. Congrats.
killjoy
Stupid question - IF the Sox hold the lead in the ninth, does Wake get the win for having pitched the top of the inning?
bigbilly
Lowell needs a hit here. Rockies 2-3-4 are up in the 9th, and 1 run is nervous territory.

Tough job ahead for Paps - hope he's got his "A" game...
