Time to woop some ass! Let's go Josh!
SoxAroundTheWorld
Good start for Josh. Let's get to this Peavy guy.
retire25
I'm starting to feel a JVB level of rage coming on every time I turn on the game and see Cora in there instead of Pedroia. It made sense in April when Pedroia was scuffling. But what in the world is the rationale for sitting him now and continuing to play Lugo? enraged.gif
Curll
Jeebus, that was nutty
thegame12716
All of that for nothing since Lugo is up now
BillyJo
A triple for Tek, and another LOB for Lugo.
Curll
I hate Lugo
czar
Julio Lugo is a stud.
retire25
Worst FA signing in RS history?
TreeRol
Grounding out was WAAAY better than taking a goddamn 3-0 pitch to see if you could get on base and clear the pitcher's spot.

OTOH, we might've just cleared the pitcher's spot...
bobgeorge
This may sound outrageous, but I have more confidence in Beckett getting a hit more than I do Lugo. That's why Peavy went after Lugo and didn't pitch around him. Right now Beckett is a better hitter than Lugo.

Interesting way to "get to" Peavy that inning. Lowell and Tek should have both spiked him. As it is, the player with the lowest batting average in MLB among qualifiers strands the runner at third, letting the guy off the hook. Please, please, please move Cora to short and put DP back where he belongs!
BillyJo
Tight strike zone tonight...
matty2578
Lugo really shouldn't be in the lineup today. What makes Francona think he'll break out of his slump against Peavy?

Noticed the same thing. These two pitchers don't need generous strike zones, but the umps been pretty tough on both of them so far.

It doesn't sound outrageous. I was thinking the same exact thing.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Nice AB for Coco. He really has come around.
czar
Nice AB by Crisp.
Curll
Seriously: Can Coco play SS?
matty2578
GREAT f-ing AB by Coco! warren.gif

Time to get aggressive on the bases...
Curll
Some interesting banter about time to home plate.

Cora with a nice AB going

YAY
SoxAroundTheWorld
Followed by a nice AB for Cora. Is patience the way to go against Peavy? C'mon Papi!!!

They've been swinging and fouling a lot of pitches back...a good sign. *knocking on wood*

Papi!!!
czar
Great AB by Cora as well, Peavy at 60 pitches through 2.1
BillyJo
Alright, Peavy is over 60 pitches now - let's keep hitting!
SoxAroundTheWorld
Nice job, Papi. Time for ManRam to do his thing!

I'll take the Sac Fly.
Naehring Nirvana
PEAVY AIN'T SH#%$
SoxAroundTheWorld
J.D. with the gift hit. No complaints. Let's go, Michael, you can hit this clown.

Papi shows his wheels again!!!
RamallahSox
This looks like one of our softball games. I love it.
czar
3-0.
matty2578
Peavy already up to 69 pitches...lets keep it up....
Bob R
Who says Papi is slow. wub.gif

btw: last night, the Padres looked like a championship team. Not too sure about today.

Me likes!
SoxAroundTheWorld
Nice idea by 'Tek. I'll take the three. Shut 'em down, Josh!

'Cept that getting into their pen is no bargain. Their RP don't suck like the guys on that team in the South Bronx. laugh.gif

True. This would be an enjoyable World Series.

If, you know, all that worked out.
MDKing
The sox had some really cheap hits in that inning...but I'm not complaining.

Ortiz just saved Lugo's ass. What an awful throw.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Um, what exactly is it that Lugo does well? Papi saves a run. Let Alex play SS already. We want Pedroia to PH for Julio right NOW!

Nobody has good long relief....the Padres do have great guys for the end of the games, but not the middle.
Curll
Seriously, Beckett is a better hitter than Lugo
bobgeorge
I TOLD YOU BECKETT WAS A BETTER HITTER THAN LUGO

Clearly. Took some pitches, then went with it for a single to right. Can he play SS between starts?

You are so correct.
bobgeorge
I would try Cora at SS and either trade Lugo or DFA.

Actually I would have paid Cabrera what he wanted in '05.

Bob G

"Big Papi a pretty good diplomat." Uh, no...

With Lugo's contract, we're going to be stuck with him for a long time.
matty2578
No one, and I mean no one would trade for Lugo. Even Isiah Thomas wouldn't do it.

Can't you just let me take a cheap shot at the MFY without getting all rational on me? wink.gif

Not necessarily. The FO will pay someone to take the contract at the end of this season if he continues to suck at this level or anything close to it. We'll be paying $6M-$7M a year for him to play SS for that Nationals or some other sorry-ass small market team. Way to go, Theo.

Not being at Petco this weekend is killing me. I live 230 miles to the north of SD but I just couldn't get down there this weekend. SD is my favorite California city, everything Remy said at the top of the broadcast is dead on. Petco is located in downtown SD, right near the Gaslamp District (where a bunch of Patriot fans and I went to in 2002) and Seaport Village, a picturesque outdoor shopping mall right on the ocean. Even Qualcomm Stadium is not bad, located in the pictureque Mission Valley. I recommend to all of you to see SD some time if you can. The weather and scenery is as perfect as you have heard and seen on TV. We get down there now and then for Sea World and the Zoo, the only problem being the distance and that you have to go through LA to get there. I love SD, and I wish this had been a weekend after our summer school had ended and not during.
