Game Time: 7:05 pm

Scheduled Starters: Robinson Tejada (5-7, 6.57) v. Josh Beckett (11-1, 3.07)

The game will be on NESN.

Boston weather:

4 pm observation at KBOS: Wind out of the east at 15 mph, visbility 10 miles, 7,000 scattered, 9,500 overcast, temperature 72F, DP 58F.

Forecast:

It should be a decent evening for baseball. There's a weak cold front in central NH/VT now, and it should move through the Boston area this evening. There's a slight chance of showers with frontal passage, but probably nothing that will affect the game. The 4 pm observation from KBOS has an overcast layer at 9,500 feet. I think this is because of the easterly flow at the coast. Just a few miles inland there are scattered mid-level clouds and northwesterly winds. I flew down to the islands this morning... At 10 am there wasn't a cloud in the sky, but by 1 pm there was a scattered to broken layer of diurnal cumulus at around 5,000 feet. That's what we are still looking at inland. At 2 pm we were seeing some convective activity about 150 miles NW, and the radar is now showing some rain and thunderstorms around Lake Ontario. So it'll be a while before anything gets here, if it doesn't completely run out of steam crossing the Adirondacks.

The wind is east at Boston right now, but it should come around from the southwest later this afternoon. That will be blowing out toward left.

Manny has a lot of grey
Caspir
Umm, uhh, what the f*ck is this guy doing to the National Anthem?
TreeRol
I just tuned in. What the hell is going on with this anthem??
Curll
This, by the way, is the best Star Spangled Banner ever. Seriously. The crowd is amazing.

Guys, he's, special
acr
Is this some sort of Special Olympics thing, or did this guy dip into Manny's locker before coming out?

I agree, I can't stop laughing.

This is probably some special olympics thing and I'll be going to hell.

Guys, he's, special

Well that explains it. I thought it was Jerry Lewis.
Bob R
tis sad.

There are better ways of honoring special people than putting them out there where 40,000 people can laugh at them. Not to mention the disrespect it did to the Anthem.

btw: 1-3 first for JB. cool.gif
acr
The anthem singer could probably make Texas' pitching staff.

They ****in' sang along with him when he started to break down. No one laughed, they picked him up, you idiot.
Bob R
Everybody sings along. The camera showed a different story to me.

Sox 2 zip.

Ralpho316
Worst first AB ever, poor Jacoby
MFLetou
It had a to be a special needs deal, but I'm surprised Don and Jerry didn't say something.

I thought it was awful. I get that the intent was good, and putting out special needs patients with the players was great. But singing the anthem? The singer himself couldn't get through it without breaking up laughing, which was just inappropriate for the anthem. Any other song and it doesn't matter.

And people were laughing--the Red Sox players were laughing. Hinske was cracking up. It wasn't in a mean spirited way and I don't blame them, but the whole situation was bad.

Sometimes the Sox just go too far. I thought yesterday's pre-game was obnoxious too. Roush Racing is not and will never be "New England's newest hometeam team," no matter what Don Orsillo is forced to read.

Kid's got wheels! Way to go, Jacoby! Welcome to the Show!
NJSoxFan
man ellsbury is quick
Love of Sox
Welcome to the Majors and your first hit, kid.
Ralpho316
This keeps up, Im gonna hafta grab Cora for my fantasy team hehe
Bob R
First hit for Jacoby.

Yup, he can run.

Welcome to the bigs!!!!

Ralpho316
Come on Beckett, we can't let this one slip away.
SoxAroundTheWorld
There goes the lead. And I was hoping this one would let me go back to bed!
czar
Wow, the wheels came off there fast.
SFFM38
DAMN IT!!!!!!! we should have more then 4 runs against Tejeda and force him out of the game! instead, it didnt happen! banghead.gif
SoxAroundTheWorld
Bad Josh sure showed up in a hurry. WTF...
BigSlick
I am starting to get pissed off.
Ralpho316
And the wheels keep falling off.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Nothing good has happened since I got up to watch. I take all the blame. Back to bed to give them a chance to pull this one out.
Ralpho316
5 innings, ERA of 9.00, Whip 2.00 thanks a ****ing lot Beckett
MFLetou
Disappointed.

As bad as the pitching is, this offense is driving me crazy. We need another bat. That's the most pressing need on this team at this point.

Of course, it would be good if the bats we had started producing. Sammy Sosa has more homeruns than David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez.
Ralpho316
Where would we put said bat?

We dont need another bat, we need our bats to wake up.
Red Sox Fan2
This game sucks....

Outfield. Or move Lowell and move Youkilis to 3rd, and play my theoretical new bat at firstbase--if it was a good enough bat.

At some point, you can't assume your aging bats are going to wake up.
Ralpho316
Dunn would cost too much, Texiera is hurt, I dunno who else you would get for 1B. I think Ortiz and Manny need to wake up a bit, Ortiz is starting to worry me.

Drew doing something would be fantastic too
MFLetou
WHAT THE F WAS THAT??????
bobgeorge
WHAT IN THE HELL WAS THAT??? Now Lugo can't even steal 3rd. But why send him in that situation? You don't make the last out of an inning at 3rd!!

Total stupidity.

Bob G
future consultant
K, before I add to the reasons why I cannot stand Lugo, was that called for by Francona/3B coach?
MFLetou
Jesus. I must be the only person in this thread. I can't believe Lugo got thrown out at third and nobody even said anything.
Pedro El Grande
Obviously it was Lugo's fault since there was no need for that, but why would Youkilis let their catcher throw so comfortable, ducking?
MonsterSeats
Can someone please explain to me why you steal that situation? 2 outs, in scoring position already and Youks at the plate. I don't get it.
czar
Unbelievable. Un-freakin-believable.

Seriously?

Did that just happen?
future consultant
Remy is right once again, Lugo didn't know enough to slide

But to call for that with 2 outs is absolute insanity
MFLetou
I feel better.

WHAT THE F WAS THAT??????

Sounds like Lugo has lost his mind as well as his ability to hit. You never make the third out at third base. Pleas find a way to get rid of this ****ing bum.
future consultant
Youk Ortiz Manny in the 9th

Remember the days when we could feel comfortable in a 1 run game if these guys were coming up in the 9th?
amanuel777
This ****ing game is frustrating.... again.
When is our offense gonna wake up? Will it actually wake up?
czar
I love the BBTN guys on ESPN.

"Lugo is so bad, you can't even pinch run with him."

Wow. Timlin. Good job. We'll save your DFA for another day.

Big bats coming up. Manny, we gotta stop this .280 crap or someone is gonna start another "Is Manny toast?" thread.

Hell.

Maybe someone should start it.
future consultant
Lopez/Snyder/Timlin did an excellent job tonight

That is the single positive I can take from this game
NJSoxFan
come on, lets light gagne up here
Martin and Woods
Lugo is feeling he pressure and is pressing. He has to chill and not become another Rentoria.
