Game time: 7:05 pm

Scheduled starters: Brandon McCarthy (4-4, 5.90) v. Kason Gabbard (1-0, 6.48)

The game will be on NESN.

Boston weather:

1 pm observation at KBOS: wind out of the north at 10 mph, visibility 10 miles, few clouds at 6,000 feet, scattered clouds at 8,000 feet, temperature 71F, DP 42F

Forecast:

Right now we're having a sunny day, and tonight should be a decent night for baseball, but we do have a chance of showers or thundershowers later in the day. These will be air mass storms and not associated with a front. Right now, we've got cumulus clouds with some vertical development. The lapse rate is showing instability, and the clouds will likely build through the day. Radar shows some light showers in NH and ME right now.

There's a chance of rain, and although some areas are likely to get some rain, most of the area will be dry. If it does rain, they will still be able to play this game, although they may have a delay.

The wind will be out of the north to northwest, just like yesterday. It will blow from left toward right, slightly out toward right.

Gabba Gabba Hey.

Throw strikes Kason.

Lugo's in the lineup, batting 9th behind Ellsbury.

How bad you think his standing boovation going to be?

He's leading off now?

Ouch.

He promised if he didn't get at least one hit he'd leave?

ELLSBURY AGAIN GOD ****ING DAMN YOU SONS OF BITCHES I ****ING HATE THIS TEAM.

Screw them. As long as they're playing Ellsbury in front of Pena they can lose for all I care. And Lugo leading off. Just what we need when we're slumping offensively is more plate appearances for Lugo.

**** this team. I'm watching Transformers tonight.
matty2578
What an offense this is.... banghead.gif

Best use of Lugo: Sacrificing

Pedroia got it going!

I think we're going to grow to love Ellsbury's speed. If only he starts making contact.
amanuel777
Now watch us score 15 runs... it's not gonna bring back the previous 2 games.

It won't bring back the previous two, but it could get the ball rolling ( ie. getting hit again ). It could become the kick in the ass the offense needs.
amanuel777
Now Gabbard switches back to his previous game... Can't buy a strike to save his life.

EDIT: We actually MAY need 15 runs to win this one.
KillEverything
That's 3 SO for Gabbard.

Maybe we won't need to score 15 to win.

True biggrin.gif . He turned around and proved me wrong. I'm glad he did.
I see your point about getting things going with a lot of runs, but I just hate wasting them. You score 10+ in a game and then the 4-5 and 1-2 games come and we can't score a single one.
matty2578
Ellsbury with the wheels!
Bob R
I've never, ever seen a member of the Sox run that fast! wub.gif

And Lugo takes third - on a wild pitch! cool.gif

Let's hope that Jacoby figures out the off speed stuff and keeps running.

gerky
Holy f*ck, that was awesome!
Ralpho316
Gabbard really does bother me
GreenBud
Ortiz to the warning track constantly bothers me.

The power's gone.

Good night for Lugo so far... nice to see!

Ya been noticing that lately...

I highly doubt his power is gone, he hasta be hurt or something, it just doenst disappear
PantsB
There's that offense we all missed.

Let Lowell walk in the offseason, trade for Chipper, and re-sign Hinske. Beautiful.
Ralpho316
Trade for Chipper? Who will be 36 and def has 10/5 rights by now

If he doesn't want to come here (which I haven't heard any of), that's one thing. However, his swing is absolutely perfect for Fenway (he hits the most balls into the "Monster Zone" of any player in baseball), he's the perfect bridge to Lars, and Hinske is the perfect fill-in for Chipper's inevitable nagging injuries. Just perfect all around.

Not to mention that he has not played an entire season in 4-5 years.
Ralpho316
1. Why would Atlanta deal him?
2. Why would Atlanta deal him to us?
3. Why would we give up a good prospect for him?
4. Why not sign ARod for 1$ billion dollars and advertise on his wifes face, her back, and her tukkus.
dtkendrick
Being from ATL, I will tell you that the Braves are not ready to give Chipper up yet. However, with Andruw becoming a free agent and their history of letting vets like Maddux and Glavine go, you might see him dealt in the off-season.

1. Because he's 35 and owed $11M next year with an '09 option.
2. Why wouldn't they? I'm sure they liked their return on the Renteria deal.
3. Because he represents a monster upgrade to Lowell.
4. Because that will require a long, long term deal. Trading for Chipper is the perfect bridge to Lars.
Ralpho316
I dunno if its a MONSTER upgrade from Lowell, but ok.
dtkendrick
Is there any buzz about the Sox wanting Andruw Jones? I think there was almost a trade last year. Went to the Sox-Braves series in ATL and the fans were booing Andruw. I think ATL is getting a little fed up with him. But do the Sox want him?

No.

Good job, Tito.

Just got home from work and saw that Jacoby scored from 2nd on a pass ball?!? How the hell?!?

AAAND the old Lugo is back
dtkendrick
Crap, Lugo!!

Bases Loaded and he bounces weakly to 2nd. Cmon dude, we want to believe in you!
amanuel777
Jesus Christ! What a waste - bases loaded with 2 out and Lugo coming up... We'll pay for having this idiot on the team.
matty2578
No hits since June 14....

The next time Lugo gets a hit, they should stop the game and give him the ball.
Lesbian BoyFriend
Hey look, we score more than 2 runs and we're gonna win.
bosockboy
Watching Ellsbury be called up, slap out a couple of infield hits, score a couple runs and make the game look so easy--just confirms how goddamned hard it is to do what Lugo is doing. It is really hard to go 0-33...no bleeders, texas leaguers, big bouncing ground balls, nothing. Just unbelievable.
amanuel777
Just out of curiosity... When was the last time we hit a HR? I don't quite remember.
DroppinTheDeuce
Hinske hit one is Seattle.
dtkendrick
Well, it was better tonight, huh? Good finish from Okajima!

Thanks! I was pushing myself to remember when was the last time for one of the "usual suspects" and that's why I couldn't.

Well, we won this one. Dirty water, I guess.
I am still very concerned about our offense and I put all my hope on it waking up and being strong in the second half.

Youkilis homered two days ago against Texas. Good grief, do you people even know how to read a box score at mlb.com, or espn.com, or boston.com?

I'm quite positive I know how to read those. It was just easier to ask. And, like I said, I was trying to remember a HR by Manny, Ortiz and Lowell. Never mind.
