Game time: 7:05 pm

Scheduled starters: Scott Kazmir (5-4, 4.26) v. Daisuke Matsuzaka (9-5, 3.80)

The game will be on NESN.

Boston weather:

1 pm observation at KBOS: Wind out of the east at 14 mph, visibility 10 miles, broken clouds at 7,500 feet, temperature 70F, DP 49F.

Forecast:

Another cooler than usual night tonight. The high that's been dominating our weather for the past several days is slowly moving east, and the wind, which is easterly at BOS right now will gradually come around from the southwest and allow some moisture to move into the region, but not until after the game is over. There are a couple fronts off to the west, and they'll likely bring some rain into the area, but that's for another day...

It'll be in the low 70s at game time, with the wind likely still out of the east, which is blowing in. The wind will come around from the southwest/west later in the evening.

The Globe reported Crisp is expected to start. With Ellsbury being a clear fan favorite, it will be interesting to see what kind of reception Crisp gets tonight.

I don't expect it to be any different that it was before Ellsbury showed up.

I mean if fans were dumb enough to boo Crisp because Ellsbury made some flashy plays in 3 games, it'll be the stupidest thing since that BK Kim guy got booed off the field after putting up the 2nd best ERA on the team in '03. wink.gif

I happen to agree. That being said, fans are funny sometimes.
SoxAroundTheWorld
If Coco gets three hits, there won't be any booing. Weak grounder or foul pop up, and the boos will rain down. It's all a matter of relativity.

I'm never happy about facing Kazmir. Dice-K needs another good outing. BATS, we need BATS!!!!!
Red Sox Fan2
I'll be at the game and see Papi hit his first HR off a lefty wink.gif
KillEverything
I'm looking forward to this game. It will be great to see if DiceK can continue the pitching excellence we seen last month. While I never like facing Kazmir. It's possible that the offense awoken last nite. Maybe they'll stop giving Dice the "Pedro treatment" and score him some runs.

As for Coco starting. Good. The sooner the better ( assuming his sprain is fine now ). The Magadan adjustments were starting to work. He's only missed what? 3 games? I'm confident he didn't lose a step at the plate.

Win damnit.

Things I do not want to hear Bob Lobel say tonight:

"Why can't we get guys like that?" while showing footage of Carlos Pena adding to his very solid season totals.

Things I do want to hear Bob Lobel say tonight:

"Wily Mo Pena's 5th home run of the season."

Things I will actually hear Bob Lobel say tonight:

""

Oh well. 70 degrees in Boston tonight, huh? Must be nice.

Well what do ya know

Even a blind dog finds a bone every once in a while.

Lugo's first hit in a long time up the middle in a clutch situation to score 2. 3-0 Good guys
SFFM38
Yup! I was shocked as well, last time he had a hit was against the Rockies!
czar
Another dead game thread...
SFFM38
WMP is a K machine!!
DesertDirtDog
Is it safe to come out? I've been under my desk since Lugo's hit... The world didn't end! Amazing! ohmy.gif

Anyone know why Drew is sitting?

Nice throw, Tek!

Good reason...

Of course, Pena against Kazmir isn't any better. It's a strange night to finally give WMP some at-bats.
rominer
I'm surprised Pedroia doesn't wipe out like that more often with some of those huge swings he takes.

EDIT: Was that just Papi being Manny? Seems like he would have been on first if he hustled out of the box. I guess he was surprised it didn't go foul?

Same exact thought over here.
Ralpho316
Ortiz def looks great right now, yee haw
Bob R
OK, so how do we go about voting a gold glove for Dice-K?

He's pretty good in the field.

Martin and Woods
Youk is not going to the All Star game so far yet, he's a top five candidate for MVP in the AL.
SFFM38
Willy, what the hell was that ?? awful high swinging style!
24Red Sox
Does anyone think we can trade Willie Mo for a pack of sun flower seeds?
czar
Nice hitting by Tek to take that offspeed pitch opposite field way for the sac fly.

If you're WMP and you're in a 1-2 hole, don't you expect fastball at your eyes?

If you put a ball on a tee Wille Mo would still swing and miss.

Ryan Feierabend gave up 8 H tonight. 10 earned runs. In 1 1/3 innings. Against the Royals. Ouch.

+1 for use of the !!!!!11111. One of my favorite cards to pull.

BTW, this Dice-K having like a 1.50 ERA in his last 6 starts thing is pretty awesome.

Well, he did make a funny with the spelling of WMPs name, and made a great joke on top of it, so it was appropriate.

He used to be a good pitcher back in the day.

"The day" being that time he pitched 5 shutout innings against the Red Sox.

Last week.

I think our offense should take this news personally.

Lugo seriously needs to wake the **** up

Getting a huge call a good eight inches off the plate didn't hurt. Then again, Ortiz is always a huge dick to the HP ump (no such thing as a called strike with him), so I'm not surprised he got screwed.
Martin and Woods
Lugo needs to relax.
dtkendrick
Wily Mo would swing at a pickoff throw to first! Good grief!!
And how about Lugo's "fantastic" base stealing ability?
Good news is that we are playing the Double A's (I mean the Devil Rays)

Hmmm...I wonder what Papi's hitting with runners in scoring positon right now.
At least we gave DIce-K more than 1 run this time, even if the RBI's came from Tek and Lugo
czar
Well.

That was unclutch of 34 and 24.
kjquinn
I think this is Papi's worst stretch since he's been with Boston. Let's hope he has a great 2nd half.

He's hitting .351/.446/.584 w/ RISP.

In 35 ABs in close and late situations, he's hitting .229/.289/.371.

Him and Manny. I guess there can always be...fluke years or something, like Lowell's last year with the Marlins.
Hopefully not though.

A post in two parts .....

I just love watching Dice-K pitch!!!

These past few starts have been Pedroesque. Just dominating.
SFFM38
WMP 4 K's for tonight, damn! I would take Mark Bellhorn in exchange for WMP , atleast he can draw walks!
Yazfest
WOW 4 K's for Wily Mo. Seems he's only worth watching during BP.

Yah Wily Mo you win a prize
