Scouting Report: Arguably the top positional player on the island in his graduating HS class, the kid is blessed with a lot of plus tools. The 18 year old's (DOB: 9/21/88) best attribute is his outstanding speed. He has run a 10.9 in the 100m dash. Not only is he athletic, but he has a plus arm, hits for average, has above average power, and is plus-plus defensively. The 6'0 - 185 pounder bats and throws righty.

The Boston Red Sox inked recently graduated HS OF Che-Hsuan Lin to a signing bonus in the ball park of $375-400K. However, the coveted speedster is rumored to have turned down a more lucrative offer from the Mariners because he wanted to be a Red Sox and is eager to play in the US ASAP. Lin could have easily earned more $$$ had he come to the US and exhibited his skills in a showcase.

According to news reports, Lin has been timed going from home to first base at 3.8 seconds. That puts him in some elite company - Ichiro out of the batter's box from the left side has been timed around 3.6 to 3.7 seconds. Lin's time (as a RHH) easily grades out at as an 80/80 on the scouting scale for speed. We'll get to see how his speed translates on the base paths this year in the GCL. Lin is scheduled to leave for the US on the 16th of June and will begin his career in the US a few days later ~ 19th of June. Lin is in a rush to get his career started because he hopes to make "The Show" in 4 years. Good luck to Lin and congrats to the Boston Red Sox!

Wow. How about an outfield of Ellsbury in CF, Rejuvenated Coco in LF and Lin in RF? Guess it depends on how he hits. A lot to prove.

Rated BA's # 4 prospect in the Gulf Coast League for 2007.
W.A. Cummings
I almost posted something about him earlier in the year, but I forgot or something. Now he's been producing for the first month+ of the year and hit his second home run run yesterday. That brings his line to .286/.388/.403 as a 19 year old in Greenville, with 25 Ks to 16 BBs

Willie T. Smith III, Greenville News - Lin adjusting to life in the minors

After leading his high school team to the Elite High School title by batting .533 in the tournament, Lin signed with the Boston Red Sox. Although some major league teams offered larger signing bonuses, Lin joined the Boston organization for $400,000.

"The Red Sox scout in Taiwan, the Asian Pacific scout and the international scout all treated me well before I signed," Lin said. "They let me graduate from high school before coming to the (Gulf Coast League). It had nothing to do with the signing bonus I got. It was more about getting the best opportunity to come to the United States and play."

Lin has been up and down offensively with the Drive, hitting anywhere from .260 to .290. Currently battling some shoulder soreness, he is batting .261 but leads the team with 18 stolen bases as it enters a three-game series at Hickory tonight. The team is at its best when Lin is getting on base -- his speed has had a way of disrupting defenses.

Defensively he has been stellar. He moves around so well that former Drive teammate Chris Province said it appeared Lin was gliding in roller skates in the outfield.

Drive's Lin selected for Futures Game
Lou Duffys Cliff
Che-Hsuan went 2-2 in the Futures game with a 2 run HR in the 7th to power the World Team past the USA Futures 3-0, earning him MVP honors for the game.

Edmund Dantes
I was at the game. Only thing I wanted to see was an opportunity for him to show off his arm.
