Royal Rooters > THE COOLER > ROYAL ROOTERS ARCHIVES > 2007 REGULAR SEASON GAME THREADS

Game time: 7:05 pm

Scheduled starters: Odalis Perez (4-8, 5.88) v. Julian Tavarez (5-7, 5.15)

The game will be on NESN.

Boston weather:

1 pm observation at KBOS: wind out of the south at 6 mph; visibility 3 miles in light rain, fog, mist; few clouds at 2,500 feet, 11,000 feet broken, 15,000 feet overcast; temperature 71F, DP 67F

Forecast:

This does not look good! We've got a warm front stalled across the Cape, and central RI and CT, and a stationary front west of that. The rain is moving along the front, and it is a lot of rain. The heaviest rain is staying south of Boston, but there's a chance for heavy rain later this evening. Although there hasn't been a lot of heating, there's still a chance for some embedded thunderstorms to crop up.

If they play tonight, it will be in the low 70s/upper 60s, with a light wind out of the southeast to south, which is blowing in from right/across from right to left. If they play, it will likely be in light rain.

Updates to follow.

Man, this may be the 3rd rainout of the season out of my 10th Man ticket package!
Now KC doesn't return to Fenway this season & I wouldn't be able to get out of work tomorrow for a dbl header....so that all but seals the deal of the game being cancelled.

(EDIT) I posted my previous comments out of desperation in hopes that it'd sway the baseball gods into allowing this game to get off tonight. Of course now that I've included this 'edit' explaining my intent behind the initial post, I've probably cancelled out any of the mojo I've tried to conjure up. Stupid baseball gods and their endless toying with me).

Suppose the Sox bats having a day off couldn't hurt 'em though...

Pray for the clouds!

If cloud-cover can remain robust enough behind the main precipitation shield, it'll hopefully keep daytime surface heating down and further convection from flaring up to the west. If we can keep it dry behind the rain right now, we might be able to get this initial "mess" of precip moved out enough to dodge the raindrops and get nine in sometime tonight.

Here's the Sox 3 pm Press Release - for those of you going to the game...

The current weather forecast (provided by the Red Sox private weather service, Meteorlogix) in the vicinity of Fenway Park calls for rain showers to dissipate as the afternoon and early evening progresses.

The Fenway Park gates will open at the regularly scheduled time of 5:05 p.m., and the Red Sox expect that tonight's game with the Kansas City Royals will begin at the scheduled starting time of 7:05 p.m. However, the Red Sox would like to alert our fans of the possibility for delay.

This forecast is of course subject to change as the day progresses. Additional updates will be provided as necessary.

It looks like the back edge of this batch of rain is just east of the Connecticut River. Worcester is reporting rain, but CEF and BAF are reporting fog/mist with no precip in the last hour.

However, there's some convection firing in the Albany area through SW VT.

As czar noted, the thicker cloud cover extends to about the central Berkshires. The cloud cover was breaking up earlier in the Hudson Valley, with the reporting stations noting a broken layer at around 6,000 feet. And now they've got heavy rain...

In the last couple hours, BOS reported a broken layer, but the stations west of Boston are all overcast., and Boston is reporting a low overcast now. I'm around 30 miles NW, and we've got a low broken layer with an overcast above.

Here's a "special" out of KBOS at 3:14 pm

Wind out of the east at 8 mph, visibility 3/4 mile in light rain, fog, mist; 700 broken, 1,500 overcast, temperature and dew point 67F.

Ahh, I see that now.

KC has an off day tomorrow - could they have a dbl header against two diff. teams on the same day? That'd be unusual....but from Anni's latest forecast it doesn't appear it'll be a decision that has to be made.

WIN it boyz!
