Just hoping Francona doesn't start the B squad.....hate to take chances even vs. TB.
RedSoxAnni
According to Don and Jerry last night, Manny will be sitting tonight, but they didn't mention anyone else.
bosockboy
Yeah I think Hinske is in LF tonight for Manny. He has only missed 3-4 games this year, he is due for a day off I think.

We have won the last two w/o Papi, Dice-K is gonna throw a gem tonight anyway. biggrin.gif

Let's get the win tonight. Lackey is going for the Angels.

Maybe (I can dream dammit!) we can get it back to 7 up tonight!

Dice looking real sharp so far. I think every 6th or 7th start he has a "dead arm" start from the increased workload and maybe that's what we saw last week. Hopefully he keeps it up tonight and gets win #14.

Oh crap, Dustin needs to be OK here.
BigSlick
I really wanted more than 1 run there.
bosockboy
Drew starting to look really lost again. Hacking away when he should be waiting Jackson out, and has been staring at pitches when he should be looking to drive the ball. Totally backwards right now.

His AB Sun in the 8th was the worst AB of the year. He was up there looking for a walk.

Isn't it obvious the league's book on him is to throw a first pitch cookie, because he won't swing, and then pepper the outside corner because he won't go the other way? Is it that obvious?
Jack Hayden
yahoo says it's cora time. has there been any report on pedroia?

Meanwhile in Baltimore, the Rangers are annihilating the Orioles 30-3 in the top of the 9th. The Rangers have only scored in four innings, posting innings of 5, 9, 10, and 6 runs.

The 30 runs is an AL record, breaking the mark of 29 set by the Red Sox on 06-08-1950 and tied by the White Sox on 04-23-1955.

Wowzers!
ivebeentruped
Umm, holy shit. Texas has scored 30 runs against the Orioles.

Edit: And I'm slow.

That will throw the Texas expected W-L totally out of whack.

Kason Gabbard is the beneficiary of all that run support.

And David Murphy scored five of the runs. Glad to see the ex-Sox youngsters representing. Another oddity...Wes Littleton earned a save even though his team won by 27 runs. Useful stat, those saves.

That's ridiculous.

Any word on why Pedroia left the game?

That HAS to be a record for the biggest run differential ever for a save, right? That's just ridiculous.

Well, yeah...it's the biggest run differential ever in the AL, and the NL record of 29 was set in 1897 before saves were invented.

oh just 1 freaking run against Ed Jackson who has nearly 6 ERA ????

barf.gif I just took a look at gameday stats for Jackson pitching 4 hits and 5 walks equals to just 1 freaking run???

Why does it seem like we're going to see Gagne in a high leverage situation tonight...

Jackson's August ERA before tonight was 1.71. God only knows how bad it was before this month.
matty2578
Wow - looks like the Rangers only benched one player during their 30-3 trouncing of the Orioles.

I know it's a doubleheader, but yikes.

What are the chances we'll see some fisticuffs in Game 2?

The Sox need whatever was in the Rangers Wheaties...
Mystic Merlin
Dice-K has been great tonight. I still thinks he walks too many, but it isn't mattered thus far. However, in the playoffs this might be a problem.

Anyways, I would love 7 innings from Dice-K, even though he is already at 95 pitches. The Sox have never been shy to let him go up to 110-115.

Oh, and, can anyone imagine the outrage there would be at the offense if, say, Lester pitched tonight and threw up 5 ER? People would be cutting their wrists.
SoxFan4Life
Bah...
Mystic Merlin
The Sox cannot really afford to let his run in.

EDIT - That was an absymal throw by Lowell.

EDIT2 - Dice-K held fort there. 2-1 after six. Ok, this game is on the offense. Jackson was excellent today, but the Sox stranded way too many runners. That bases loaded, nobody out situation could be our undoing, seeing as we managed one run in the inning.

Luckily, the TB bullpen is here to save the day (for the Sox, that is).

The Sox could use a Papi HR here...

EDIT3 - A single works too.
Preacher
This is getting very frustrating.
Mystic Merlin
Seven hits, five walks and one HBP in seven innings.....but only one run to show for it so far.

Not good. Not good at all.

EDIT - Also, 1/8 with RISP.

And Pedroia snags that ball.

EDIT2 - Timlin hits Crawford to load the bases with one out. This could get very bad very fast, especially with Carlos Pena coming up.

EDIT3 - To quote Mike Francesa, that was "hu-yuge" right there. Gold Glove Youks.

I gotta give Youk credit: he cannot hit for a damn right now, but his defense has not suffered.

EDIT4 - Wow, f*cking huge. Timlin loads the bases with 1 out, but gets out of it unscathed.

The Sox are winning this game, folks.
ivebeentruped
Generous call there.

I wish Manny could PH here, but that would exhaust their supply of second basemen.
Mystic Merlin
Cora's swing on that 0-1 pitch, which bounced in front of the plate, was one of the worst I have ever seen.

EDIT - And he strikes out. This blows.
ivebeentruped
Here we go Gagne, here we go...

Mystic Merlin
Gagne looks not so good. He is lucky that ball was foul.

EDIT - Well, he had a decent inning. A couple of foul balls were hit pretty hard, but he induced a 2 weak GB's to the SS and a pop-out to 2B (or SS, one of the two). He walked a guy, but he looked better.
Caspir
Nice inning for Gagne. The change ups looked good. Rally time.
Mystic Merlin
I gotta be honest: I am not feeling too good about Youkilis being due up here.

EDIT - Holy f***ing sh*t. He pops up on the FIRST PITCH.

Jesus, that is bad.
Ralpho316
We really gonna lose 2-1 to the D-Rays and Edwin Jackson?
Caspir
Nice job, shit bag. Don't make their terrible bullpen throw pitches or anything. What a piece of suck he has been since like... June.
Jermaine Van Buren Fan
If Manny PHs for Drew, I'm going to be ****ing irate. Not that Drew is a better bet, but it's basically the equivalent of Tito telling JD to go **** himself by not PHing for Kielty.
Mystic Merlin
That was a great AB.

Now, let's hope we get August 14th Redux.

EDIT - Son of a B*TCH!
BillyJo
Good eye, Papi. Let's see a couple of big hits now and get out of here with a sweep.
Jermaine Van Buren Fan
He ****ing trapped that!
Mystic Merlin
The dude in my sig needs to f***ing man up and do something here.

EDIT - Nice line drive single for Drew.

But, that f***up on the Young trap looks mighty big right now.

EDIT2 - F***

Tek completely sh*t the bed in this one. Absolutely terrible.

Folks, this was a pretty terrible loss.

JD coming through again with men on. He would have tied the game... now why not PH Manny for Tek?
ivebeentruped
Unlucky loss.
ortizlovesthecookies
How do you not ph manny for tek?

Sorry, no way. The Sox had so many opportunities in this game, and pissed them all away.
Lesbian BoyFriend
Is Tito asleep? How do you NOT PH Manny for an 0-4 Tek who couldn't hit a beachball?
