Game time: 1:05 pm CDT/2:05 pm EDT

Scheduled starters: Josh Beckett (15-5, 3.15) v. Jon Garland (8-9, 4.84)

The game will be on NESN.

Chicago weather:

9 am CDT/10 am EDT observation at KORD: Wind out of the northwest at 6 mph, visibility 10 miles, few clouds at 1,000 feet, scattered clouds at 10,000 feet, broken clouds at 15,000 feet, and overcast layer at 25,000 feet, temperature 71F, DP 68F.

Forecast: There's still a very active weather pattern out there, but it does look a bit better now than it did an hour ago. How that changes with daytime heating is going to be the big question.

There is a strong jet at the 850 mb level running from Texas to Chicago, and the storms are moving along like they were on a freight train. There was an MCS complex upstream overnight, but that seems to have fallen apart, and the remnants are present as the mid-level and high clouds over the Chicago area. As the clouds break and we get more heating, that's likely to set off more convection, and the cycle will begin again. There's a lot of available moisture in the atmosphere, so if it does rain, there could be a lot of it.

O'Hare has reported intermittent light rain since early morning, but it was not raining in the 9 am local report. At 9 am local, it was raining at Midway Airport.

The winds are NW now at O'Hare, but expect the winds to be W to SW most of the day, which is blowing across from right to left.

Updates to follow....

It looks like they'll be able to get this game in. At noon CDT (1 pm EDT) the weather at KORD had the wind out of the west at 12 mph, with an overcast at 1,300 feet and 73/68 on the temp/dew point. The low overcast is preventing heating, and that's probably helping to keep more convection from firing. There is rain "upstream", but the heavier cells from earlier did not hold together.

Tonight looks iffy, but it does look like they should be able to play the day game.

I know Youk is laboring a bit and Pedroia's got the elbow, but Hinske & Cora in the same game? banghead.gif

Hinske actually has pretty respectable numbers against Garland .379 AVG/1.056 OPS with 2 HR's in 29 AB's - let's hope it holds true today.

The top and bottom of the order are pretty scary though
vicocala
Not bad considering it is a doubleheader. Tito is probably thinking we won't even get a chance to play two today.

A whole lot of people in that stadium today... maybe even a few dozen!

You should have seen how many were there on Tuesday to watch the game against Kansas City wink.gif

MLB.TV committed the cardinal sin -- they just switched from the NESN feed to the Comcast feed

Just turned on the radio feed. Why is there no game being played? Rain? Any anticipated time?

Ummm, ok. Appears there is a game being played. Anyone know why the Sox feed is still a pregame show?
RedSoxAnni
It looks like Pierzynski has replaced Thome as DH, and is hitting third, and Erstad is catching, and it batting fifth.

What's with Beckett! Bases loaded in the first! Two walks!

I'm having the same problem. Are they giving us the wrong feed? RKO when the game's on EEI or something?
Ralpho316
What the hells going on with Beckett?
future consultant
Beckett just can't fine the strike zone, his curve doesn't seem to be working at all for him today

Yay for 7 days' rest...

The game is on WEEI today. I think they get the day games. Maybe a call to MLB is in order...

I blame the Motel 6 sign behind home plate

Sooo. . .

Anni do you foresee lots and lots of rain and t-storms before the top of the 5th? I think we are going to need it

and now we're back the the NESN feed, very weird indeed
The Love Below
Apparently Beckett got out of it. Relying on the sports 'glog' on cbs sportsline today...ugh.
