A lunar omen!
Lunar Eclipse, a Red Sox Omen?Baseball fans will remember the lunar eclipse of Oct. 27, 2004 -- when the moon glided through the earth's shadow and turned a prophetic shade of red. It was the night the Red Sox won the Word Series for the first time since 1918.
Tonight, the Red Sox start a three-game series in the Bronx against the Yankees, the reigning division champs who have won the American League East nine straight seasons.
"The last time there was a mix of a lunar eclipse and a baseball game it worked out really well for the Red Sox," Binzel said. "We'll see if the magic can repeat itself."
"It this an omen?" Binzel asked. "One can never tell."

I think if we beat them tonight we will know its truly over. They NEED this game and theyre backs are to the wall. Its more or less their best chance to win tonight. If they lose tonight, they risk losing the series very quickly... and they cant afford that. The Yankees absolutely need to win tonight.

i'm watching with a red sox fan at a bar in northern rhode island. we're both reasonable fans. rule No. 1: no gloating. of course, it's hard to gloat when you're eight games out.
the sox can go for the kill this week but i would say it's more likely they will finish the yanks off in mid-september at fenway. then tito has two weeks to get his team ready for the playoffs.

I just realized that if the Sox win every game and the Yankees lose every game the Sox will clinch the division on September 8th in Baltimore. I will be at that game.

Well, if he gloats, i guess he has paid his dues. The guy has been a Red Sox fan for nearly 50 years.
Red Sox fans have suffered a long, long, time. I don't begrudge you the division title. I can even understand your frustration, anger and resentment of the Yankees. The pure hatred. If the tables had been turned for the last 55 years, I would be a little unhappy, too. I'd be like the Caveman in the Geico commercials, putting my mother on speakerphone at the shrink's office.
