Game time: 1:05 pm EDT

Scheduled starters: Curt Schilling (8-5, 4.11) v. Chien-Ming Wang (15-6, 3.95)

The game will be on NESN.

New York weather: 9 am observation at KLGA: Wind out of the southwest at 6 mph, visibility 10 miles, few clouds at 5,000 feet, temperature 76F, DP 59F

Forecast: High pressure is slowly moving to the east and a cold front is approaching from the northwest, but it will be weak when it gets to the NY area, well after the game is over. It'll be sunny and warm today, with temperatures getting to the mid- to upper 80s. It'll be a bit more humid than it was yesterday. The winds will be out of the southwest/west, which is blowing out toward left/left center, but the winds should stay under 10 mph and will not be a significant factor in this game.

Ah, Thursday afternoon, late August, out on a big field in the Bronx where Hall of Famers used to play.

Reminds me of my days in band camp at Fordham. But in MY day, it was much warmer than it is today (even if my day was only 10 years ago).

Monster game today. A loss, and the Yankees are still in the race for the East. A win by our boys will take some wind out of the Yankee Clipper's sails as August turns to September.
BamaBoSox
That insignificant wind needs to pick up to speed.

I figure if we get the wind at Schilling's back, it may increase his fastball to 90? *sarcasm*

My radar doesn't show any tropical depressions in the area.

I'm hearing at least 10 days for Manny. All derived from Terry's comment last night. Anyone else hearing that?
Red Sox Fan2
If Manny is going to be out at least for 10 days and the Sox elect to keep him off the 15-day DL than they should option Lopez back to AAA and call up Jacoby. It's rather depressing to watch Hinske, especially when Pedroia, Ortiz, and Lowell seem to be the only two doing anything with the stick.

Not sure what the obliques are (haven't cared till now), but after that solid piece of batsmanship on Tuesday that trot to first didn't look good. I'm hearing that you can't do anything for at least 10 days to get over it.

Sitting out in WSH with a foot injury?
Ralpho316
WMP would provide OF depth, but Clemens/Chamberlain/Pettite etc would have made him a quick K and look silly. Red Sox need more bench depth obviously, but Wily was not the answer

Has it started? Nothing on gameday yet.

1-2-3 for Wang.

We're in trouble all of a sudden.

Why does today feel like a frustrating game that one mistake costs us a win?

Not making excuses for Schill, but its hard to pitch knowing your offense is gonna struggle to score 1-2 runs. Hang in there, buddy.

THe thing that sucks is I just have no confidence this team can come back from 2 runs, let alone anything more ...

Please. It's hard to pitch when you're featuring an 86 mph fastball and a hanging split. It's a miracle he only gave up 1 in the 3rd.
bosockboy
Nice job Curt, hang in there. Time to see what this team is made of.
Ralpho316
Welcome Mussina to the Red Sox?

That just does not make any sense
MFLetou
I was just about to say that. You can't hang a split like that--followed by a belt high curve ball--backed up with an 86 mph fastball--and expect to be a team, let alone a good one.

Michael Kay is calling today "The Glove Story." (about Giambi). I'm telling you NESN people, you have no idea how much worse this is to watch on this channel.
LargerMass
How many more plays is Steroidboy going make today? Jesus.

Dude, I hear you. I turn those humps down to zero and put on some tunes... Digging on some Kurt Rosenwinkle to Ortiz' at bat.

Edit: !@#$^ ^&%$@

Edit 2: Yes I took a half day to come home and watch the game. I just hope the deli downstairs doesn't run out of beer. Here's to yous stuck at work. warren.gif

I'm, uh, working from home...

Bergs
I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I absolutely love watching the Red Sox get no-hit through the first 4 innings every game.
Leephus Pitch
Does anyone here have any confidence at all that we can win this one?
Not I. We haven't even LED a single time in this wretched series.
This is a first place team chasing a second place team.
BillyJo
If we can got a few hits, we might win.

I'm well aware that this may be one of the dumbest posts ever on this board, but that's how I feel. And I'm not sure that we are going to get a few hits today.

It could be worse - we could be Mets fans (or Tiger fans or Mariner fans).
Gabatta
What the eff did Lowel just do there? Gamecast said bunt out to catcher.
Flaming Mo
Man, the offense is looking like crap all of a sudden... and I just don't believe that Wang who has bad control today and especially a 45 year old Roger Clemens are that good... just ridiculous!

Thank god Schilling is looking fairly well!
warning track power
Is gamecase right? Mike Lowell BUNT grounds out? Is that where we are now, our #1 RBI guy is bunting to get on base?

Awesome.

Lowell's was a check swing, not an intentional bunt.

I'm not sure if that's better or worse.

Seems like the yanks should be pounding Schilling by the descriptions of his stuff - is it a matter of time or are they looking pitiful as well? Can't be that bad, they have the lead and 4 hits.
bosockboy
Curious to see how Tito handles Schill today...only 50 pitches through 4 but a totally rested pen. If he can get through 6 we can deploy the back end of the pen and try and steal this one.

Boy, does our offense suck! Highlights today... J.D.Drew of course and Eric "I hit over .500 off Wang" Hinske... embarrassing!

Nice that we traded Wily Mo... haunts us pretty early.
