Game time: 7:05 pm EDT
Scheduled starters: Radhames Liz (0-1, 7.60) v. Tim Wakefield (16-10, 4.16)
The game will be on NESN.
Boston weather: 3 pm observation at KBOS: wind out of the east at 17 mph, visibility 10 miles, few clouds at 4,000 feet, scattered clouds at 25,000 feet, temperature 71F, DP 63F
Forecast: A cold front is moving through the region, with high pressure building behind it, and there's a deep low out to sea that will pass east of Nantucket. We're caught in the middle now... Right now the winds are out of the east at Logan, but that should change to northeast to north by later tonight. There's a slight chance of showers this afternoon and early evening, but nothing that should stop the game.

He has all of one start in the Majors, and is one of Baltimore's top prospects, striking out 161 in 137 innings in the minors.

Dear God, let this just be one start.
My guess is we see Buchholz tomorrow or Sunday.

Yeah, but Tavarez and Lester were starting anyway this weekend. This essentially replaces Wakefield with Buchholz. Maybe we will get away with this, but its concerning for sure. If they retroactively DL'd him to his last start, he could still come off the DL in time for his two Tampa starts, which let's face it, are very important.

Also--Tito says Manny had an MRI on his oblique today. No damage, but he won't be back for this series "or maybe longer." Also said that they're not putting him on the DL because there are call-ups available tomorrow.
Which sounds like Manny is not gonna be back for a while.
I'd bet he doesn't contribute much the rest of the way, which makes any playoff spot kind of moot.
The hits keep on coming.

Those of us with unexorcised demons remaining after 2004 are looking at the 3 games at Yankee Stadium and the loss of Manny and now Wakefield and the first sign of trouble is the eyebrow starting to raise slowly. It's sort of a puzzled look, like "what's going on here?" But I am going to remind myself that these are no longer my father's Red Sox, and the baseball gods are not conspiring against the Red Sox in yet another September. Now that I've given myself that pep talk, I'm now confident that Julian Tavarez will hold down the Orioles, Kevin Cash is going to hit a home run, and Andy Sonnanstine is going to shut down the Yankees while the Tampa Bay lineup has their way with Phil Hughes. You heard it here first.
