A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains.Think about that for a while".... and then go out there put an end to the Blue Jays season. Then, when it's over, remind them of the meaningless crap they spewed about coming in 2nd place last year.

Every day that Tito posts a lineup that doesn’t have Ellsbury batting first & Pedroia second gets me a little closer to a seat in heaven because of all the suffering his lineups puts me through here on Earth.

So Pedroia gets a rest tonight…

Now for your 2007 Toronto Blue Jays:

Tonight looks line a throw-away game to me, Marcum won't be easy to get to if he's on, but seeing Manny get another night of rest is always a good thing
Red Sox Fan2
I would like to see Moss get more playing time.
rominer
If Coco just struck out, or flied out, or hit into a fielder's choice or whatever, that's a double (maybe a triple if it stays out of the seats) for Cora with Overbay holding the runner. Instead, double play. Huh.Marty Robbins as we go to an ad break? That's a pretty random music selection.
Locklandworth
Come on Papi, don't do that. If for anything, to protect those knees.
BamaBoSox
Should Ortiz have tried for two? Obviously not, but was it close?

I ask because here in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, we don't get NESN. All I have is CBSSportsline and RSN.net.

the announcers sounded really surprised he was going and no, it wasn't very close at the bag

Other than the missed tag.

But the problem is that he didn't make up his mind. Had he been thinking double out of the box, he would have made it. Once he took that slow, wide turn around first, the only way he should have gone is if the ball was still rattling around in the corner.
Lowell4MVP
Don't have access to the game on TV, how has Curt looked?
Locklandworth
I have been gone a while and not participating in gamers, has it been this quiet recently or is it just an off night?
rominer
Throwing the curve a lot. It hasn't really frozen anybody, but he's throwing it for strikes more often than not, and it's setting up the fastbal well.
MFLetou
Um, not real good.

That was an extremely close play, but I actually think Zaun was out. I also wonder if they would have better off not cutting off that throw.
rominer
Damn. Not one of Tek's better jobs of blocking the plate. And Schilling isn't looking too good anymore...

I don't think it would've been close had it been cut off. Lowell made the right decision; Varitek just didn't block the plate well.

That throw was dying. Looked to me like cutting it off was the only thing that made the play close.

I'm not sure if he was safe or not on replay, but Tek was not in great position to receive the relay throw. If he had been blocking the plate better, it would be a non-issue.

I think this is just a slow night.

With the bats and Rooters, sadly...

Players should be forced to hear a seminar on how bunting relates to run expectancy.

DIAF Cora, you stupid ****ing piece of shit. I ****ing hate you.
Locklandworth
I love this kid. Not an easy pitch to hit at all, great AB.
Jermaine Van Buren Fan
Could've been a huge inning.

Oh wait, The Smartest Player in Baseball gave them a free out. Literally.

Trade this garbage in the offseason to a team that actually buys that shit (hi Kenny Williams), and re-sign Bobby Scales to be the utility IF. Not only is he better than Cora, but Tito will play him about a tenth of the time.
rominer
I dislike the entire race of people who sit in the front row at ballgames.

When they shouldn't interfere with the play, they do. Then, when they actually have the right to the ball, they sit there trying to protect their beers.

Oh well. Ortiz already swung at ball 4 in that AB anyway.

You'd think if they could afford those seats, a $7 beer wouldn't mean that much

Sure I'm a little behind.

I'd just like to point out that Alex Cora is high on my sh*tlist currently. I'm sure I have a gripe with Tito too, but I'm sure he could have gotten one down back in his time...

Terry Francona: .274/.300/.351, .242 EqA
Alex Cora: .244/.310/.347, .237 EqA

Besides being The Smartest Player in Baseball, now you know why Cora plays.
future consultant
With the exception of Crisp and Lugo, the Sox aren't exactly adept at bunting

But Cora should be good at bunting being a utility player, he didn't look comfortable at all during that AB
rominer
Well, tht makes up for not blocking the plate earlier.

How are the M's supposed to be a playoff-caliber team again?
Jermaine Van Buren Fan
Corey? Really?
TommyK8
QUOTE(Jermaine Van Buren Fan @ Sep 5 2007, 09:21 PM) *
Corey? Really?

I think Francona thinks he's playing with the house's money.

Finally, Stairs is retired. Not a bad outing for Schilling, but he is all finesse now. Let's go Sox!!!
rominer
Anti-Christ or not, Cora has made a couple of pretty nice defensive plays today.
Jermaine Van Buren Fan
League is filthy.
czar
God, how bad are the Mariners?

On their way to 11 losses in their last 12 games. Absolute bullpen implosion in the seventh.

That's what I thought, but when I saw the close up, it turned out he just has some really bad tattoos.

JD you suck.

There are people in Fenway Park who are not booing Drew.

Those that are not are probably pleased that he didn't hit in to a double play.

That's the same pen that is supposed to be on a par with ours.AFraud--2 homers in the 8th.

Cora is Albert Pujols in front Nancy Drew
bosockboy
I'm really trying to remember ONE huge hit Drew has had this season. Seriously, one. Cora has had them, Hinske, WMP; everybody has had some huge hits late in games. I mean its kind of the law of averages. Am I wrong here? Can anybody think of ONE?
retire25
F---! Whose window did that one break?

Well, he had the game against 'Zona in which he drove in 7 runs. He pretty much won that one for us.

The J.D. Drew highlight of the season for me was on Sunday night way back in April when he was one of the four consecutive homers hit against the Yankees and Chase Wright. I was going back and forth between the Sopranos and the game, and I did see it and it was a shot to deep right center.

Damn. You've got an unfortunate point.

We should have listened to the Phillies fans.

czar
F*ck.
BillyJo
Well, when the 5 and 6 hitters can't get the run in from third, you are setting yourself up for a bad night.

Boston needed a lot of runs tonight to make up for the fact that our bullpen was taxed, and the offense couldn't deliver.
Jermaine Van Buren Fan
Okajima should come in for the 9th, assuming it stays tied, but I'm resigned to the fact that it's going to be Iron Mike.
