Game time: 7:05 pm EDT
Scheduled starters: Scott Kazmir (11-8, 3.79) v. Curt Schilling (8-6, 4.04)
The game will be on NESN.
Boston weather:
4 pm observation at KBOS: wind out of the east at 8 mph, visibility 9 miles, overcast at 1,100 feet, temperature 65F, DP 59F.
Forecast: A stationary front is stalled off the south coast, and we've got a cool flow off the ocean bringing in low clouds and possibly fog later on. It'll be in the 60's with a raw east wind, which is blowing in. There's only a slight chance of rain; the marine layer is only about 2,000 feet thick, but the cool air is keeping the rain that's out west from reaching the coast.

Ortiz with the night off, per Globe:
One option for a unbiased manager would be to play Moss in LF, as he's had some success vs. LHP this year, shift Ellsbury to CF, and give Crisp a night off in the field.
Here's what Tito put out:
Julio Lugo, DH
Coco Crisp, CF
Dustin Pedroia, 2B
Mike Lowell, 3B
Bobby Kielty, RF
Kevin Youkilis, 1B
Jason Varitek, C
Jacoby Ellsbury, LF
Alex Cora, SS
I'd rather see Clayton. Seriously.
Nevermind, Edes told me this morning the Sox are 34-14 when Cora starts. Carry on!

Looks like Tito is mailing this one in. I'd still rather DH Ortiz with LHP as he'd be more likely to draw a walk than either Lugo or Cora. At least Drew is sitting against the lefty.

Unfortunately, I'm expecting a lot of bunting and small ball with that lineup. Not much of a choice, though. Schill's gonna have to be pretty good tonight.

I just hope this is one of those game where Tito, disregarding conventional wisdom, puts together this scrappy lineup that some how manages to score 8 runs. It could happen.

I smell conspiracy.
MLB should investigate Tito to see if he's on the take from Fox. They’d want nothing more than see the Yanks pull a few games closer befor Saturday’s game which they’re carrying.....anything to help their ratings.
Fox = bastards

That is an awful lineup.
The worst Red Sox lineup I can think of in recent years.
Of course now that I said that, we'll score 15 runs.

Per the Globe his knee is bothering him again and Kazmir owns him....who knows, maybe they know what they are doing.

Schill could turn himself into the RH version of Boomer...less velocity but pinpoint control. I doubt he comes back, because an NL team will give him at least 2 years, but he could be very effective in the NL for 2-3 years.
Let's just hope he's got one more Herculean postseason run left in that arm, and that those 6 weeks off keep him strong through October.

Joe Maddon reminds me of Uncle Junior.
Schilling's fastball is 89-91. He's throwing lots of offspeed pitches. That was a tremendous at bat by Norton who battled Schilling for a 10 pitch at bat before lining a double just out of the reach of Ellsbury in left.

For those of us not in New England and without the NESN, do we have anyone warming up? I'd be surprised (well, no I wouldn't) to see Curt return to the mound in the 7th.
