I'm going to be out of town all day, so I figured I'd start this early seeing I forgot to check to see if someone would start it... And an early game thread is better than none at all....

Game time: 7:07 pm EDT

Scheduled starters: Jon Lester (4-0, 4.06) v. A.J. Burnett (8-7, 3.42)

The game will be on NESN.

It looks like decent weather, with high pressure dominating. It'll be in the low 50's by game time, but they'll probably keep the roof open, which is what they did on Monday night.
BigSlick
Early game thread mojo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on Sox, please win a freaking game. Pitching around Thomas might help.
BamaBoSox
We gotta get this next one, Jon!

And I agree about pitching around Moses, err, Frank Thomas.
JohntheBaptist
If we lose this game, I'm going to start creating game threads and Anni... you're just going to have to live with it.

I'm starting to think our 2007 team is not that good. That lineup last night was a disgrace. We need Manny back ASAP. We should have won 2 of 3 against NYY, with a shot at 3 of 3. Instead the lead is now 3.5 and I'm getting sweaty.

WIN TONIGHT!!!!

Love your signature!!

I guess because the Sox are usually chasing the Yankess this feels different. But we are 3.5 up and I'm starting to feel as though we are about done. It's wierd. We are 3.5 up with 11 games left and I don't feel good about it.

Help me out here.
Ralpho316
The Yankees are the better team guys, no matter what the standings say or whatever, even if we win the division and maybe the World Series. The Yankees are the better team, we just hafta deal with it.
SuperManny

A lot of you guys sound like Chicken Little around here. Run the sky is falling ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!

Sox are still up by 3.5 so its all good. smokin.gif

IF the Sox win the divison and IF they somehow win the WS, I don't believe it is fesible to say they are a better team. The only argument you could make are the head-to-head matchups, but even than would you say Balitmore is a better team than NY? If the Red Sox win both, going through the Yankees or not, the Red Sox would be the better team.

I can't wait for Jacoby to get benched when Manny comes back banghead.gif
(No shot towards Manny, I'm just pissed were replacing one good bat with another)
Ralpho316
Yah, I was def just mocking some of the posters here who talk like that lately.

Ah sorry to confuse you with some of the tripe that has been thrown on here lately. "Manny needs to just retire", "When Manny gets back from vacation", "JD Drew and Manny don't play through injuries", "We've been better without Manny", ect... banghead.gif
OuttaThePahk
Damn 5 hours before the game and this thread is already full of negativity. That's gotta be a record...way to go Rooters!!!!

all I want is no Cora in the lineup, it seems like whatever Tito put him in the line up, our offense sucks big time.. If I had to guess RPG whenever Cora plays ( for past 3 months ) it would have to be no more then 4.0 banghead.gif

Alex Cora -- The Killer of Red Sox mojo

It's pretty much official.

I call for 10 runs tongiht!!

Let's make it easy!

That pitching matchup doesn't look good.

All I ask is they actually show a damn pulse tonight and make it appear as if they are really trying.

czar
I feel smart for assuming Youkilis was going to be out more than one game after the initial "day-to-day" diagnosis.

I don't (and didn't) expect him back til the weekend.
Ralpho316
Ummmmm I kinda want Manny back and if hes not back by tomorrow, I am officially questioning him this year.
Red Sox Fan2
Thank god no Crisp. I think Moss can do an OK job if he is allowed to play. Crisp is one dead-bat that needs to be removed. I wish the Sox called up Kots to give Varitek more "rest". Kots may not be ready by any means but I think he can get 1 hit over a 7 day span.

The Sox used to be fun to watch. It's become painful.

I want to grab Lester by the ears and tell him to throw strikes!!!!

Were those hard hit balls off Lester?

Wells led off with a quick walk. Johnson fanned swinging, and then Rios went with an outside pitch and hit a line drive down the right field line for a double that scored Wells. Thomas dropped a soft single in front of Drew, but Rios stopped at third. Hill chopped one to third, and Lowell gunned down Rios at the plate. Stairs walked and Zaun took a called strike three. I would say that Lester was not hit very hard, but again was behind in the counts and the walks hurt him.

The Sox are getting chances. Last night they weren't getting chances. This is an improvement.

We need to get aggressive here and put Lugo in motion. We must create a run here to get this offense started. It's time to end this malaise. Right now.

So do I. I was making a rhetorical point.

I don't care if every batter takes Lester to the warning track, as long as they';re caught.

You aren't going to feel so smug if we do lose this lead, though.

Believe me...I'm all for you feeling smug.

If we are playing longer than the Yankees are, than we are a better team At this particular moment in time, I just don't see how you can argue that we are, however. That's all I'm saying, mock it all you want.

I think he was trying to see if the first inning would be indicative of future troubles, which would be much more likely if the balls were hit hard.

The results will be self-evident. The best team will be the one that wins.
To say otherwise goes against performance, like saying the 2001 Rams were better than the Patriots. During the season, maybe. But on the particular day they played? No.

It cannot be argued that the Yankees are not playing better baseball right now, because they certainly are. And there is no question that the Division is still in play. If it were not for 2004, I would be absolutely convinced that the Red Sox were going to blow it. I'm still not so sure, but I don't think it's inevitable.

As for who is the better team, I want to withhold judgment until we get Manny back and Youkilis and get our starters and relievers healthy, rested, and aligned.

I believe that if Lester can keep us in this game, we are going to find a way against A.J. Burnett.

Well you have Jeter hobbling around on one leg hitting homers against us to win games and he's gutting it out, and now is when we need Manny back in the lineup. I want Manny back in the lineup by tomorrow night, and in fact, I want to see him pinch hit tonight.

Can't blame him. Rice TWICE played several innings with a broken hand.
You had to shoot him to get him off the field.

well the good news is the yanks are up 2-0 .. oh wait

make that 6-0
