The ace takes the hill again. Josh gets Number 20 tonight and we start rolling again.

Let's Go Sox!

Unbelievable that we have to face Kazmir 6 times in a season, and we didn't even see the Devil Rays until early July. If I remember correctly, this is his 17th career start against the Sox, and the next highest for him is 12 against another team(Baltimore?).

This is an important game, probably as important as a late september game between a 1st place and last place club can be. If we win, beat Kazmir, and Beckett gets 20, the team will be great. If we blow Beckett's chance at the milestone and get owned by this pitcher for a last place club again after the way this past week has unfolded, it could get ugly.
roidrage
Hey now, looks like they are making a significant effort to get Beckett his 20th...actually got most of the Varsity team out there for this one, save for those that are hurt...and Drew. Of course, Drew againsta tough lefty is pretty much JV anyway, so yeah, stamp of approval.

However, the real question is...will they bring in Gagne for the 8th if the Sox have the lead? I say yes they do, and once again, it will his inning no matter what happens.

With the Varsity lineup, I will definitely be watching. But the booze will be nearby.

I'm not one of those fans who thinks every loss is Francona's fault but I have to question this defensive strategy. Lining up both Coco and Jacoby in CF seems foolhardy. whistle.gif

Please. With their range, we don't need anybody in LF. We'll throw out just as many runners from LF this way as well.

I thought Ortiz was getting tonight off against Kazmir?

I am certain nothing is going to drop in CF tonight. There might be some balls that get down in LF, however.

Some good news: No Carl Crawford.
acr
I don't have a link, but I read from a Rays fan on another board that Kazmir is on a 100-pitch limit for the remainder of the year. That should help us a bit.

Let's get started early.

The Red Sox should go JD Drew style and watch just about every pitch. Work that count and beat the pen.

They also have more guys hitting .600 or better.

Damn. This is going to be a tough one.

And by "tough," I mean "blowout." 11-2, Sox.

Which is especially nice because Scott Kazmir's face makes me want to beat him up.

There are Rays fans? And they have boards?

... NAVARRO
MFLetou
Lucky. There was no way Ortiz was driving that run in. Kazmir looked pretty good. C'mon Josh.
amanuel777
Is there ever be a game that we can watch somewhat relaxed??? WTF?
acr
Reading Beckett's lips as he walks off the mound is always fun. At least it shows he cares.
rominer
Hinske, bitches.

Hinske.
TommyK8
Looks like everyone is busy tonight but I will cheer those two runs and all the pitches Kazmir has thrown this inning.
rominer
Uh, Scotty boy, that's not the catcher you're supposed to throw the ball to.
amanuel777
Can our batting coach tell the team not to swing at Kazmir's high fastballs???How many batters have to fall for this?

I know, but it's so damn obvious that this is the only pitch that Kaz has going for him tonight.
It hurt me see Mike Lowell fall for it and Lugo go for it twice in a row.
dtkendrick
Oh wow!! THe Sox have a lead!! All right!!
fanrw
That is an awfully high pitch count after only four. He's primed for a Japanese version of a Matsuzaka game. 160+ pitches.

According to someone on page 4, the Rays intend to keep Kazmir on a 100pitch limit. Time for some D-Ray BP action thumbsup.gif
MFLetou
You would think as a catcher that Varitek would at least have a vague idea of where the strike zone is. God he's awful. And overated.

We're going to regret not getting a few more here.
Jermaine Van Buren Fan
pwn3d.

Wow, no one saw the last sequence coming, did they?
acr
Stranding the bases loaded again...ugh...

Hope Beckett can give us at least 6, and the pen holds #20 for him
SFFM38
I know we are not playing the yanks for rest of this season, but it sure hell feels like it!
Caspir
What a play by Ellsbury.
MFLetou
Holy crap. I'm glad HE'S trying anyway.

I have to tell you, I'm really starting to love this kid. In a mostly heterosexual way.
yankeehater
That was a great catch by Ellsbury.
SFFM38
Beckett is at 100 pitches extactly, freaking Rays are working up his PC... I would let him out for 1 more inning but at the same time get the bullpen to start warming up! Paging Tito!

EDIT: BTW O/U Lugo will be batting at .245 by the time all 162 games are done!
kjquinn
Beckett looks much better now, too bad he threw so many pitches in the first 3 innings. Looks like he will be done after 6.
Jermaine Van Buren Fan
100 pitches, but I'd let him start the 6th.

EARTH TO TITO: HAVE SOMEONE WARMING.
Albert P. Schlegg
Contrast Beckett's 100 pitches through 5 with Halladay's 82 pitches through 7. Jays 2-0.
dtkendrick
I think Gagne is due a little tune up work, eh??
SFFM38
FYI: Doc Halladay is pitching one great game! Hes just at 82 pitches and he has gone 7 innings! 2-0 Toronto up thumbsup.gif
acr
Kazmir's out! Maybe we can actually string some hits together.

What do you mean?! We gotta see if he's ready for October!

Rios 2 run shot. Jays 4-0.
ivebeentruped
Woohoo, Alex Rios can hit someone other than the Red Sox!
dtkendrick
Gagne is ready for October!! October of 3 years ago.
retire25
All kidding aside, I think we better brace ourselves for Gag-me. Tito said they're going to give another try and this game is lining up as the perfect chance. Beckett's done after six and it's a close game.

Not saying I'm for it, just that it's probably going to happen. Get your puke bags ready.
