Game time: 7:05 pm

Scheduled starters: Chad Gaudin (11-12, 4.52) v. Curt Schilling (8-8, 3.97)

The game will be on NESN.

Boston weather: 4 pm observation at KBOS: wind out of the west at 15 mph, with gusts to 22 mph, visibility 10 miles, few clouds at 30,000 feet, temperature 88F, DP 52F.

Forecast: Enjoy it while it lasts! We'll have summer-like weather tonight. With the heat island effect from the city, it may not get cooler than the mid-70s at the old ballyard. The winds will diminish after dark, but will remain from the west to southwest, which is blowing out to center/left. Low pressure to our east and a strong cold front that's still up in Ontario will change things after tomorrow night...

From boston.com:

1. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
2. Manny Ramirez, LF
3. David Ortiz, DH
4. Mike Lowell, 3B
5. J.D. Drew, RF
6. Jason Varitek, C
7. Coco Crisp, CF
8. Eric Hinske, 1B
9. Julio Lugo, SS

I'll post the official lineup when it's available.

Not sure where to put this question, but I figured this "stream of consciousness" place would be better than polluting the main area of the board.... Anyway, I'm driving up for a game this weekend. I was planning on staying at the hotel right next to the Riverside stop, but evidently they are closed for remodeling. Can anyone else suggest a place to stay where you wouldn't have to give up your first born to stay there, and is within walking distance to a stop on the Green Line?

Many thanks, and Go Sox.

Manny batting no. 2?
Good idea. He needs as many at bats as he can between now and the playoffs.
Bat him lead off, Tito!!
Cheap Char
Glad he's back!

Let's wrap the division up quickly!

GO SOX!!!!

That's because Ellsbury will be batting in that spot before the start of the 5th

Ellsbury starting for Coco. Who do you think they'll PH for Manny when it gets that far?

Manny going the other way for a line drive base hit...I like that...I like it a lot.

Good to see supper Manny thumbsup.gif

Lowell nice hit...

Mike Lowell deserves some kind of award.

I mean, he's not team MVP, Papi has superior numbers...but Lowell is the glue that keeps the lineup together. That has to be recognized.

I get what you're sayin...he gets timely hits, great glove, and seems like a guy everyone likes. Good clubhouse chemistry guy - Papi may have better numbers but Lowell seems like a rich man's Millar in the clubhouse...
nick898
I actually consider Lowell the team MVP this season. I also think he deserves some recognition for AL MVP. He won't get it. But he deserves some credit.

Some recognition, definitely. Especially after practically falling off the map in 2005.
DominusNovus
Hey, that Hinske at bat reminded me of a question I've got. Really weird, but does anyone know who has the record in getting on base through errors?

That would be called the comeback player of the year award, if he had this season last year. It's great that Lowell has had the season he's had, but why should he get MVP consideration because he was terrible two years ago?

I hear you. And I have no delusions that he will even sniff an AL MVP vote, but he deserves a lot of credit for Boston being where they are right now.
BamaBoSox
What percentage of Drew's hits come with two outs?Is it just me, or do the rest of you notice how are team batting average skyrockets with two outs?... and likewise, how many die on groundouts?
nderekn
ARod just hit a grand slam. It's 5-0 Yankees.

Geeze, why cuuldn't we beat the Devil Rays this way?

We're the Red Sox. Drama is our middle name.

Plus, they're not going to sweep. The D'Rays will win one.

13-5 against the Rays this season. Not shabby.

Just like we were supposed to win one in New York back in August?

I did scoff at all this assuming that Igawa would get rocked, but...still...damn.

Well Pedroia's defense is certainly not slumping.

Come on, lets get some ****ing runs.. This no offense support for Schilling is getting old! ( I have to admit Schill is pitching better then I thought as of lately )

HUH ??? why did they do an replacement option for Manny after just 2 AB's ?
fanrw
Gaudin is second in the AL in walks. Let's take freakin' advantage.
QUOTE

They wanted to get him some early at-bats (1-2, 1B, BB) just to get him back into the (pause) swing of things. No pun intended.

100% AGREED! 3 H + 7 BB = 2 runs, not good enough!

UGH! DiNardo is in, anyone remember his pitching performance earlier in the season against us???
fanrw
Possibly a top-10 AB from Drew this season. Granted, none of those pitches were close.
DominusNovus
That'll have to do right there.

And Youk's pinch hitting!
MFLetou
Huh. Drama.

C'mon Youks.

I am not a Major League caliber pitcher. Not by any means.

I haven't, in fact, even thrown off a mound in probably 3-4 years.

I am pretty sure, though, that if the bases were loaded, and Jason Varitek were batting, I could record an out at the Major League level.
nick898
We really must be the worst team at scoring runs with the bases loaded and no outs. I mean 2 runs to take the lead is nice but the bases were loaded with no outs.
SFFM38
banghead.gif I just hope Lenny DiNardo doesn't shut us down again like he did earlier in the season!
Ralpho316
The W is the most important, but Youk and Manny back is fantastic. Just get Okajima out there and I might feel positive again
MFLetou
Wow....we are really not trying to win the division, huh?

Apparently Tampa's not trying too hard to help us, either.

Much like I'm not a Major League caliber pitcher, I am not even remotely a MLB-worthy hitter.

In fact, I even suck at softball.

However, I could hit for the cycle if you put me in the lineup when Kei Igawa was pitching.
Jermaine Van Buren Fan
We...uh, caught a break there.
colo. RedSoxfan#1
I love JD when he does that
DominusNovus
Did they just walk tek to get to ellsbury?

EDIT: Well, I was kinda gunning for extra bases, but hell, any ribbie will make me happy.

fanrw
Ellsbury coming up huge. Chasing DiNardo.
