Game time: 7:05 pm EDT
Scheduled starters: Kevin Slowey (4-0, 4.57) v. Daisuke Matsuzaka (14-12, 4.48)
The game will be on NESN.
Boston weather: 2 pm observation at KBOS: wind out of the northwest at 14 mph, with gusts to 20 mph, visibility 10 miles, scattered clouds at 4,500 feet and 11,000 feet, temperature 80F, DP 59F
Forecast: The cold front moved through the area in the late morning, and will move offshore this evening. The air will gradually cool off and dry out behind the front. Right now, there's instability aloft, and we could see some scattered showers. There's a secondary front behind it, and it's likely to bring some rain later in the evening, most likely after the game is over, but there's a chance of some rain this evening.
The wind will be gusty out of the northwest, which is blowing out toward right, but the gusts should diminish later in the evening.

Just win tonight. No scoreboard watching. Don't worry about that other team, just go out and take care of business.

Winning. Yup. That's a good idea. The team needs Dice-K to live up to his billing. Now. Just do it.

I'm driving up from Richmond to Baltimore this weekend and will see the MFY game tomorrow evening. I'm praying that not only will the Yankees lose, but that their loss will officially clinch the division for the Sox. It would be one of the greatest games of my life. Of course, if the Sox clinch today I won't be complaining.

Especially with Matsuzaka on the hill.
Beckett gets a mulligan for last night - hopefully he got that bad outing out of his system. But Dice-K needs something to build on. This team isn't winning in the postseason without him.

far worse than I realized:

It should definitely be noted that Youkilis batted 2nd, 3rd, or 4th all but 6 times through June 2nd, when Terry Francona began insisting upon batting him 5th, despite the fact that he looked very uncomfortable there with less pitches to see. Between June 2nd and August 1st, Youkilis batted 2nd, 3rd, or 4th only 15 times.
Of course, that doesn't explain August...

It's lovely that you don't give a shit about games that may directly impact our postseason. Really, it is.
But I do give a shit, because it's POSSIBLE for Boston to lose 2 of the next three. Really, it is. It is also POSSIBLE for the mfy to sweep a godawful Orioles team. So you can bask in your sanguinity and not follow the other games that impact the Red Sox, but I think I'll keep flipping.
Incidentally, 7-2 mfy.
Nice outing thus far by Dice-K.

It's very comforting to see Matsuzaka put in san outing like this. His September has been pretty bad, and has an absurd BABIP(fluke, or fatigue?), but to come back and pitch like this is great and promising for October.
Also, I love Mike Lowell.

You're right, but I think you're getting fired up a little more than needed. Yeah, they may win, and very likely they will.
But our faith is in our hands and I say f*ck the MFY and what they do. I can't listen about their sh*t anymore.
Let's just win - tonight and tomorrow - and let them sweep whoever they want this week.
