Full Version: GAME 1: Cleveland at BOSTON, Friday, October 12, 2007
Royal Rooters > THE COOLER > ROYAL ROOTERS ARCHIVES > 2007 ALCS GAME THREADS - BOSTON v. CLEVELAND
Pages: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
RedSoxAnni
Game time: 7 pm EDT

Scheduled starters: C.C Sabathia (1-0, 5.40) v. Josh Beckett (1-0, 0.00)

The game will be on FOX, WRKO, and ESPN Radio

Boston weather: Noon observation at KBOS: Wind out of the south at 12 mph, visibility 10 miles, scattered clouds at 3,300 feet, broken clouds at 6,000 feet, temperature 63F, DP 51F

Forecast: Windy. Right now, the low that brought all this rain is over southern NE and is moving northeast/east out into the Gulf of Maine. High pressure is building behind it. The pressure gradient between the low and the high is going to mean strong winds this afternoon into the evening. Winds could gust out of the west as high as 35-40 mph. That's blowing OUT. We've got scattered showers over the region now, but this activity should settle down by late afternoon, although there's a chance of a stray shower into the evening. They will play this game, however. What we are seeing now is the effect of the upper level low and a lot of very cold air aloft. The cold air will shift eastward, eventually out to sea, and the showers will go with it.

It's going to be cool at game time, in the mid-50s, and it could be in the low 50s before the game is over. With the gusty winds, it's going to feel colder, especially if you're in the bleachers, or in the right or left field grandstands. Bring mittens. If you bring a hat, hold on to it! It's going to be windy out there.

I'll provide updates as the day goes on...

new to this....thanks for the weather update....
watched NLCS game last night...not too exciting but i saw a commonality in the network coverage...is TBS doing an awful job or what?
They return late from commercial break, their on field reporting is amatuerish, their play by play is very, very, weak (although some of the analysis/color has been ok) -
that is, I thought Steve Stone did OK

I believe it is Buck/McCarver tonight, am I right? I never thought I would be glad to hear the Cardinal homers but it will be a relief from the job TBS did...am I alone with these thoughts?

Personally I would take anyone but Buck and McCarver.

I hope Arizona cools down the Rox.

I'm predicting another big night from #24. He boasts a .417 batting average, three homers and seven RBI in twenty-four at-bats against the Tribe this season. Career numbers against Sabathia? .571 batting average and four home runs in twenty-one at-bats.

Manny's having another big game tonight. Take that to the bank.

well its time to deal with these indians, weather sounds great, thanks for that annie...wind blowing out, could be a big scoring game?

4 wins away from another world series, bring it on

That would be ironic. Before I knew what the wind was like, I was discussing with people at work that episode of MythBusters where they talk about how humidity does slow the ball down.

Best guys against CC: Manny, Kielty, Youkilis, Coco (although these two have much fewer ABs).

I'm, like, 98% excited, and maybe 2% scared. Or maybe it's backwards. Maybe I'm 98% scared, and, like, 2% excited. But that's what makes it so great---I'm so confused!

Edit: On Game Day, all chips riding on Beckett to WIN, WIN, WIN!!!

Yeah I think there is a lot of potential for Manny to have a big series. I'm feeling a couple home runs for sure. I'll be going down the cape til Sunday and I hope I'm returning with a 2-0 series lead.

I'm actually a bit worried, as they have a good sinkerballer on the mound, and Beckett's been known to give up long flies.. with this wind, you may have a popup to first go past the Pesky Pole..

fox sucks. period.

the TBS production values, for whatever reasons, were very subpar for the Boston/LAAA series although i am a fan of Stone's stoicism and wry sense of humor....

as for FOX, buck/mccarver are bad enough but just wait until the endless "crowd" shots featuring their latest fall show's cast taking up good seats at Fenway barf.gif ....i'll take TBS' understated presentation any day....

but i digress....

let's go Red Sox (clap-clap...clap-clap-clap)

3 Ronos: I'm with you all the way about TBS. At one point I was thinking that "listening" to Sox road games on the radio when I was a kid, when a guy read from a teletype stream, was better than the TBS coverage. Anybody else remember those? Yes, I'm 100 years old.

Edit: the Sox particular TBS coverage was the worst. Brenly and Gwynn are OK once you get used to their twangs, or whatever.

If you want to call McCarver-ish English. But yeah, Fox is going to seem like heaven after TBS.

Weather update:

6 pm observation at KBOS: Wind out of the west at 24 mph with gusts to 30 mph, visibility 10 miles, scattered clouds at 2,600 feet, broken clouds at 4,500 feet, temperature 56F, DP 46F.

Well, the good news is that the dew point is dropping, so instead of being cold, damp, and windy, it's just cold and windy! The rain is just about gone out to sea; there's a slight chance of a little shower, but most likely it will stay dry the rest of the evening. The winds will gradually diminish, and the skies will clear during the evening. It's going to get down into the low 50s during the game, but it will feel much colder, especially out in the bleachers.

And, yes, there is the little matter of baseballs flying out that way...

I'm off to the bar...hope we all enjoy this...

PS...Manny will hit a 2-run HR in the 1st.

Oh christ, I forgot we'd have to sit through 20 minutes of Kevin Kennedy rambling on about nothing and Jeannie Zelasko's ugly face.

Okay, that wasn't so bad...only about 3 minutes...and now we get Joe *uck and Tim McCarver. Yay.

I am glad these games are on Fox because I think the TBS telecasts rivaled the NHL telecasts on the whatcha-call-it network. That said, Kevin Kennedy is the dumbest, most empty headed "analyst," on any network. The only thing worse is when he is paired with moronic Rob Dibble on their XM radio show.

I hate him and his divot filled, humongous face.

Throws to third, who throws to 2nd, who throws to the SS, who goes to first, who gives it back to the pitcher.

Just for clarity, the first baseman is rarely involved in around the horn, but the rest is right.

No worries. We're winning this game.

Terry tripping over his words. Smooth.

Hello all.

Beckett was one pitch away from sheer perfection in that inning. I'm sure he will learn from that. And if Pronk's hit can drift like that, Papi will clear the Red Seat.

Let's get some offense off Fat Albert here

Not to wish injury on anyone, but if that were an inch or two to the right, we sweep this series.

Game ended 10-1.
