Cowboy up!From ProJo:
The Red Sox announced late last night that Kevin Millar, the emotional ballast/clown prince from the 2004 championship team, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch for Game 7. Last night, the Sox called on Bill Mueller to do the honors.
Thought Mueller split last year between serving as an assistant to Los Angeles Dodgers GM Ned Colletti and being the team's hitting coach -- he replaced the fired Eddie Murray at mid-season, his playing career is over, due to knee problems.
The same can't be said for Millar, who vested an option for another season with the Baltimore Orioles last month. Wonder how Baltimore management feels about this?

I'd sure be pissed if the Sox were out of it and Schilling went to Arizona to throw out the first pitch, and that's for a team that's not even in the same league, let alone the same division.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am REALLY excited for tonight's game.
It's a far, far different feeling than the Game 7's in 2003 and 2004.
In 2003, I was really, really worried. The Yankees were going to be out for blood against Pedro, and Pedro wasn't exactly lights-out in Game 3. Roger wasn't quite the post-season joke he is now, and I thought he might be able to pitch well against us one last time before he retired. I also couldn't imagine having to cope with a Game 7 loss to the Yankees. I remember driving home from a concert that night and turning the car radio off when Gump came to take Pedro out after Williams had that run-scoring single. I was almost home, and there was going to be a commercial break. I then turned my TV on and was stunned to see Pedro pitching to Posada.
I had tickets in the last row of the upper deck in 2004. I couldn't eat or drink that entire day, and got little done at work. All I could think about was my fellow Sox fans who invaded the Bronx for Game 7 in 2003, and how miserable it must have been for them to leave the Stadium that night. Brown had a history of big postseason starts, and Lowe was coming off a spotty year. I was concerned, but thought there was a good chance that the bats would show up, and Boston could dance in Babe Ruth's house.
This year, I am probably too overconfident. I don't know how Dice-K is going to do, but I'm thinking something along the lines of 5 innings and three runs. If the bats do their job against Westbrook, I am almost certain that we will win.
if we lose tonight, I'll be upset, but I'll probably be over it in a few days. Despite 2004, I'm still bitter about dropping the pennant to NY in 2003.
Now go get us a big pennant to fly at Fenway next season.

you can't have guys with names like "Fausto" "JHonny" "Grady" (we've proven that already) and "Trot" playing in the WORLD FREAKIN' SERIES.

I love baseball. You can't get any better than a game 7...well of course a win would be nice. I'm a little nervous about Dice-K but I believe he will come through, and if not I know we have Beckett in the wings. In a perfect scenario Beckett doesn't get to pitch tonight and Dice can be lights out through 7. You never know what can happen with baseball and that is why the game must be played. I just love this. GO GET EM RED SOX!!!
I also love that Millar is throwing out the first pitch. He is not from Boston, he was not born into being a Sox fan yet I truly believe he is one. Isn't that a great thing? Of course If I was an Orioles fan I wouldn't be too happy, but oh well I just love it that Millar is one of us. I wish they would show the first pitch and am still bummed they didn't show Mueller last night.
GO RED SOX!

All of our lives, we have fought this war. Tonight I believe we can end it. Tonight is not an accident. There are no accidents. We have not come here by chance. I do not believe in chance. When I see three objectives, three captains, three ships. I do not see coincidence, I see providence. I see purpose. I believe it our fate to be here. It is our destiny. I believe this night holds for each and every one of us, the very meaning of our lives.

What the hell?! Who pissed in your cheerios this morning?
No way. Matsuzaka-san goes a strong 6 and the pen closes it out with authority. How do I know this? I had to head to San Francisco at the last minute on business and I found a baseball bar right around the corner from my hotel this afternoon. Plus, I already talked to the bartender and she said that there is a die hard Sox fan who is a regular there. She told me I have to be there for the game. There is no way all of these occurrences happen simultaneously and the Sox lose.
I will be doing my best on the left coast to keep up the drinking mojo…
Edit: So, if there are any Rooters in San Fran, I’ll be at “Lefty” O’Doul’s on Geary St. Come say hi to the tattooed guy in the Wakefield jersey and I’ll buy you a round.

Only time will tell what we get form Matsuzaka, but the fact of the matter is he will not get booed. The second the home crowd starts booing a pitcher halfway through a game is when you know the crowd has already given up. That will never happen in a game 7 in Fenway.

Tito said before the game that Wake is the only pitcher not available tonight. He threw a side before the game. I'd think he might be a candidate to pitch one of the first two games of the WS. Not sure you want him pitching in Coors Field. the last time the Red Sox went to Coors, back in 2004, they purposely re-aligned the rotation so that Wake wouldn't pitch.

I like this whole "have members of the 04 Sox throw the first pitch, even if they haven't retired" thing we've got going. Should the Sox be lucky enough to advance, do you think we'll see Johnny Damon throw out the first pitch of Game 1? That would be pretty awesome, just to watch the NY tabloids go nuclear. Or better yet, lets have Pedro throw out the first pitch. Then maybe see if we can get away with him throwing the next 50 to live batters and get away with it. "I don't know, he just stayed on the mound, we figured he was supposed to be there."
