Sick.

Im pumped.

Thats all that matters about the World Series, so we can take our mediocre players over stars from other teams.

Im just glad we can slightly ruin the Yankee love fest that this ASG is going to be... its the farewell to Yankee Stadium. Im sure Yankee fans will love to see Tito in his pullover fleece in the home dugout.

He'll be able to pick Tim Wakefield when he's just 8-10 by the All Star game or a sub-.250 batting average for JD Drew, just in spite

You got me curious... so looking around and having a good laugh at them I found a thread that said the Indians website put this up prematurely...

I love the little touch here of "back to back":

I also (sincerely) love this post from there:

MLB (as well as many other sports) do this kind of thing all the time. What's really interesting is what happens to all that merchandise: Most professional sports leagues donate it to poor countries. There are third world nations filled with little kids wearing World Championship shirts of teams who lost. Seriously. I had a friend in the peace corps back in the 80s who swears he saw a village of kids in Guatamala wearing 1986 Red Sox World Champion shirts.

That wasn't Guatemala, I bet his peace corps friend just stumbled into an alternate universe.

But...does that actually happen?

I always took it for granted that it did. After all, they gotta do *something* with all that merchandise.
Kylyk
There was something on ESPN a while ago I think that was talking about it. And yes, they do donate it to third world countries. Since they have to print it up and make all the shirts anyway they might as well.

I get being prepared, but why announce and showcase it?

Outside of Tropicana Field in St. Pete before the 1999 NCAA basketball championship game between Duke and UConn you could buy championship shirts and hats for either team. After the game the Duke ones were sold at a large discount and the price for the UConn ones went up. These weren't from guys who made them in their basemants either. They were authorized merchandise being sold at a large tent outside the stadium.

What are the odds that Yankee Bob Watson checks if Francona is wearing his jersey under his fleece during next year's ASG? 2-1? 3-1?
Ralpho316
I'd wear a 2004 AL Champions Yankee shirt, that'd be kinda funny
BamaBoSox
Who else is hoping that Francona takes a long, relieving piss in the Skankee dugout?

Kenny Lofton must have an amazing collection of mistake shirts. 2003 Cubs, NL Champs. 2004 Yankees, AL Champs. 2007 Indians, AL Champs.

2002 Giants, World Series champs.

It's absolutely stunning that he wasn't on the 1997 Indians team that blew Game 7 and lost to the Marlins in extra innings (although he was on the 101-win Braves team that lost the NLCS to the Marlins in 6 games).

He seems to bring the choke with him everywhere he goes. If not for his mastery of the Dikembe Mutombo Memorial Finger Wag, I would actually feel bad for the guy.

Don't forget he was on the 95 indians team; you know the only team that allowed the Braves to win the WS. Yup, Cleveland and Kenny Lofton are the queens of choke.

As bad as losing to the Braves in the World Series is, I left that one out since it didn't go 7 / they didn't lose it after having the opponent on the brink of elimination.

But I should have mentioned:

1999 ALDS - Indians lose 3 straight to the Sox after being up 2-0.

2001 ALDS - Indians take a 2-1 series lead with a 17-2 victory over the Mariners. They proceed to score a total of 3 runs in the final two games, and lose the series.

Kenny Lofton brings the choke with him, for sure.

While it's cool to mine old threads if you've got something substantial to add, your post doesn't exactly make it worth it for me to load this page.

Sheesh.
