Full Version: NESN DVD this year?
Royal Rooters > WE'RE TALKIN' BASEBALL > RED SOX - OFF THE FIELD

In 2004, the NESN Faith Rewarded DVD was clearly better than the MLB DVD (which tried to appeal to fans of all the playoff teams). I see that MLB has just announced that it would be putting out its WS 2007 DVD at the end of November. Does anyone know if NESN is going to do one again this year? . . . and if so, when?

I wondered about this too. I can't imagine that there won't be one. Anything Red Sox sells faster than good porn. thumbsup.gif

Watched the MLB World Series DVD last night and it was pretty fantastic. Much different than 2004....more focus on the first two rounds and a lot more attention to the Rockies story of getting there. The Cardinals were barely mentioned in 04.

Just a really nice recap of the season and playoff run. Lots of good interviews, etc...

Sort of off topic, but can anyone verify EVER seeing one frame of video or a picture of Eric Gagne in the WS clubhouse celebration or in the Rolling Rally? I don't think he showed to the rally, which is ok I guess, but I think he bolted like the moment the game ended. He must have been ashamed to get a ring in such a shameful manner.

I will email Edes or someone and ask.

I watched the first 40 minutes or so of the DVD tonight and I found myself wishing for a little more focus on the ALCS, which was a pretty dramatic series. I also could have done just fine with a lot less stuff about the Rox, but that's just the obnoxious, self-centered RS fanboy in me, I guess. biggrin.gif

Had to laugh at the interview of Lugo talking about how the RS lineup is tough because it's full of patient hitters who grind out at bats. Might Youks or Dustin or Drew...hell, just about anyone, have been a better guy to have making that point?

There was a picture of Gagne holding up a "Yankees Suck" sign on one of the boats

Gagne was @ the parade:

I would think that IF NESN could get rights to footage from the post season, they would do a DVD. Since when have the Sox and NESN not missed an opportunity to make a lot of money? But NESN does not own the rights to any post season game footage, as far as I know. At the very least, MLB would probably want the sale of this MLB DVD to run its course before letting NESN get a DVD out.

They just announced today that you can reserve copies of the NESN 2007 Sox DVD. it's not out yet but can be reserved. I wasn't listening close enough to hear that info. but it will be out before the holidays.

If you're willing to shop a little bit for these things in order to save a few bucks, you can get a pretty good deal. I paid $15 for the MLB WS video at Best Buy as soon as it came out. But I later saw it somewhere for $9.99 and yesterday I saw it for $7.99 at the fye store in the Emerald Sq. Mall in North Attleboro.

I'm usually looking to get these things as soon as I can, so I don't care to shop. But someone who isn't in a hurry can definitely save money.
BamaBoSox
I just bought NESN's version. I figured it would be a little more in-depth than the one MLB puts out.

That, and I really don't care anything about hearing about the Rockies. I'm guessing MLB would be more prone to covering the particular series and both teams involved rather than Boston's season as a whole. Hope I'm right.

I just bought the MLB video, and I must say that I was disappointed. I haven't seen the NESN one yet, but this one was lacking, particularly when compared to the official 2004 video.

Things I liked more than the 2004 video:
-No mention of the curse,
-Coverage of the Rockies and the NL playoffs. The 2004 NLCS was one of the best post-season series ever, but people (well, me) were barely paying attention. It was limited to 2 or 3 clips in that year's video. This year, there was ALMOST a reason for Rockies fans to buy the disc.

On the flip-side, the 2004 video gave us about 20 minutes on the ALCS, and gave us a very broad brush covering the off-season, spring training, and the regular season. This year's edition barely mentioned the regular season, and scrimped too much on ALDS and ALCS coverage. I was stunned that they didn't show any highlights from the top of the 7th inning of Game 7! Lofton stopping at third followed by the double-play may have been the most important event to us winning that game to get to the WS.

I'll probably buy the full set of discs. Hopefully, I'll watch that one more often than I watch the 2004 set. I've bought that one, and have barely watched it.

Steer clear from MLB.com.

I ordered mine a few days ago and now that they can actually ship it to me, it's back ordered.

very true!
I have spent several hundred bucks @ mlb.com and only half has been shipped.
In 04, they even canceled half of my order...I ended up making them refund me 30% off of what shipped.

In case anyone is still looking, Amazon has it in stock now (Price: $14.99 ):

Just watched it on NESN...nice job except the first 20-30 minutes was not shown in HD, why I don't know.

No piano music from William Joseph? His "Within" on the 2004 DVD was nice, added a lot to the beginning of the show.

I would order it online except I already have the 2004 DVD and don't need another one even if it is free.

Some material was borrowed from the MLB film.

They didn't show Youkilis dancing after the division clinch, only Papelbon. The two of them dancing together is a riot.

Any word on a rebroadcast to see if the HD problem was just a glitch for this broadcast?

Well, it is called World Series 07, but the 2004 one was called World Series 04, wasn't it. I thought the new one was fine, have watched it twice already. It does cover less of the ALCS and regular season, as you say than the 04 one, but it therefore has a little more about the WS and the Rocks, as you point out. About the Rockies parts, the Rockies guys interviewed in it are mostly annoying/nerdy...Francis, Herges, Hurdle, Spilborghs, but of course, I'm prejudiced. The second time I watched it, I found myself fast forwarding it through that Rockies 21 of 22/"didn't lose after June" part. White hankies my a**.

Hey, it's ours, and there isn't any such DVD on the MFYs (when I was a kid, once a year the nuns would march us down to the basement at St. Mary's school and roll the tape on the world series highlights and it was always the MFYs).

Waiting on "Faith Rewarded, Vol. 2" to see if it finds its way into my red stocking hanging on the fireplace. smile.gif

I just watched it last night-I don't have HD so this wasn't an issue for me.

I thought it was great-as good as any highlight video I have seen-they did a wonderful job capturing the whole season.

I will be buying it to keep-excellent job-much better IMO than 2004's Faith Rewarded.

Same thing happened to me and I had ordered it on Dec 11th. Now there is both good news and bad.

Good news: It came today

Bad News: 2004's Faith Rewarded, which was supposed to be included for free wasn't included. I called them and they said they'd look into it and to call back on Friday for an update.

Anyone in the Boston area find it? My mother got me the MLB DVD for X-Mas because she couldnt find the NESN one so I am on my own....any love fellas?
killjoy
I got both the NESN DVD and the one-disc World Series DVD at a Blockbuster on the Cape on Sunday for $14.95 and $19.95 respectively. I also saw a 4-disc MLB World Series set at a Barnes & Noble in New Jersey a few weeks ago. Haven't seen the WS one yet, but the NESN one is a pretty good recap of the season.

You can't complain about the World Series DVD not spending more time on spring training, the ALCS, etc. - it's a World Series video. The NESN video is what you want for that. It goes into detail about the backstory around the disappointment of 2006, signing Dice-K, the Mother's Day miracle, being chased by the Yankees, Buchholz's no-no, the role of the homegrown players and rookies, Beckett's masterful season, both playoff series, etc. etc. etc.

I actually have received it. I got it a day or two before New Year's. The '04 version was not included, though. I called them and they told me that they would process my "request" and inform me of their decision via e-mail. They've yet to do so and likely never will.

This doesn't help much, but I'm gonna predict that these DVD's will be similar to the AL East Division Champions hats that came out when they won. The supply was crap at first, and folks were payin a premium for the item on eBay.

All of a sudden the demand got the marketers to bring the supply up and you could find them again, so much of them in fact that MLB.com had a clearance double sale on them the week after Christmas. I'm glad I waited to buy mine until then.

... just to add, the '04 DVD is a helluva lot better than the '07 version. "Faith Rewarded", in my opinion, has superior photography, detail, and overall quality.

Of course, I'd be just fine with giving the producers an opportunity for improvement in 2008.
