In 2004 ...the trophy came to the Ted museum in Ocala..(before the move to ughh Tropicana Field)

Either I was not paying attention or did not know list of cities ..appearances ...timing etc..

So I missed it..Does anyone know if there is going to be an appearance list put out by the Sox?...or if there would be plans for certain times at ST to have your picture taken?..Living in Fla makes it difficult to make it to any event in NE...

Are they definitely doing that again?

I stumbled upon it myself in '04 (in LA -- happened to be driving by Sonny McLean's and saw the line down the block).

Baseball’s holy grail on way to Halifax

Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley MLA Brooke Taylor, who worked the Bluenose Bosox Brotherhood fan club to convince the team to include the province on the trophy’s tour, said Tuesday the visit will include a stop in Province House’s Red Room.

"I understand the trophy will be here at Red Sox red room, and we’re probably going to have the trophy here at the legislature for an hour and a half," the diehard Sox fan said Tuesday.

Mr. Taylor said it looks like the trophy will be here Jan. 8 and 9.

He said he doesn’t think any current players will make the trip, but a former player might. Mr. Taylor said the names kicking around include former pitchers Bill (Spaceman) Lee and Jim Lonborg.

Kelley Bouchard - Fans line up to feel glow from World Series prize; Baseball's top trophy draws Red Sox devotees who are undeterred by the report on steroids.

Nearly 1,000 Boston Red Sox fans stopped by Hadlock Field on Friday to see the 2007 World Series Championship trophy.
Only one was allowed to touch it.

Zain Mitchell, who is visually impaired, ran his fingers over the cold metal. It was a dream come true for the 60-year-old Scarborough man, who has been a Red Sox fan since boyhood.

"I felt the flags on it and the posts," he said. "It was fantastic. I think I left my fingerprints on it."

The gold-and-silver trophy, which the team won in October, was on public display for the first time in Maine from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.

Yes, our fan group, the Bluenose BoSox Brotherhood, was actively involved in helping make this happen along with great help from the N.S. Gov't and the U.S. Consulate. Also it is needless to say a big thanks goes out to the Red sox as well who recognize the large fanbase they have here in Canada's Ocean Playground! It is going to be a great two days. Joseph Shepherd - Christmas comes early: Sox bring series trophy to Maine

Backed by a number of former Sea Dogs that played right here in Southern Maine, including Rookie of the Year Dustin Pedroia, Gold Glove winner Kevin Youkilis, Jacoby Ellsbury, Manny Delcarmen and Jonathan Papelbon in the bullpen and Jon Lester, who clinched the win in the final game of this year’s World Series after he defeated cancer just the year before, the Red Sox swept the Colorado Rockies to win the 2007 World Series, their second championship win four years.

Let the celebrations begin. Again.

QUOTE
Wondering why the Red Sox are taking the World Series trophy to Nova Scotia Jan. 7? Well, you obviously aren't acquainted with Fred Lake, the Bluenose Bosox Brotherhood, or the woman in the US consulate in Halifax who gave her daughter the middle name "Fenway."

We'll let a "bluenose" explain.

"The BBB is a diehard group of Sox fans from Nova Scotia, 'Bluenose' being a nickname for residents of that Canadian province," writes Jim Prime, who once published a biography of Lake, a Nova Scotia native who managed both the Sox and Braves (then known as the Doves) at the turn of the 20th century, and has been a lifelong Sox fan.

Prime, along with a couple of other residents of Annapolis Valley, Dave Ritcey and Don Hyslop, held their first meeting of the BBB in 2005. There were about six members at the first meeting at Smitty's, a breakfast joint in New Minas. They now number around 100 from across the province.

Prime says Halifax has always had a soft spot for Boston, a relationship that was cemented when Boston rushed to its aid after the Halifax Explosion in 1917 devastated the city and left thousands dead and injured. And until Canada got its own big-league teams, the Sox were considered the "home team" by many Nova Scotians. In addition to discussing all things Sox, the BBB also raised $1,000 to support cancer research in honor of Jon Lester.

After the Sox won the World Series in October, the BBB launched a campaign urging them to bring the trophy north. Among those who joined the effort was Elizabeth Schwefler, a Boston native who is section chief in the US consulate in Halifax and whose devotion to the Red Sox extends to naming her daughter after her favorite ballpark.

Just one correction to Mr. Edes piece, t'was I who did the biography on Fred Lake and it was for SABR( about 6,000 words) but never published as a book. That being said we thank him for the nice piece recognizing the great number of Sox fans in our province. All in all, the NS Gov't, the U.S. Consulate and most of all the Red sox are responsible for what we consider a great honour. We as the BBB just lined up the pieces of the puzzle so they could fit together.

"Had I known that there was this kind of affection and loyalty to the Red Sox, we would have been here earlier (like in 2004)," Steedman said.

Stephen Burn - Spilled water helps bring BoSox trophy; U.S. consul general a man of his word

It's hard to believe a spilled glass of water would lead to the Boston Red Sox's 2007 World Series trophy making its way to Nova Scotia, but it's true.

Don Hyslop and other members of the province's Bluenose Bosox Brotherhood decided to try and persuade the world champs to send the biggest prize in baseball to Halifax shortly after they won the Series last November.

The Bluenose Bosox Brotherhood hosted last night's private function for its membership, which has grown by about 60 per cent to almost 200 since they announced in the late fall they had the Red Sox agree to bring the World Series trophy to Halifax for a two-day visit.

The trophy arrived in Halifax yesterday afternoon, and had stops at city hall, Province House, and a private party hosted by Harold Foster, the Consul General of the United States.

Monty Mosher - Champs for a day; World Series trophy makes it to N.S. even before the White House

Premier Rodney MacDonald welcomed officials from the Red Sox and members of the Nova Scotia BoSox fraternity. He later posed for photos with Red Sox mascot Wally the Green Monster and accepted a red warm-up top from the Red Sox.

"Many Nova Scotians consider the Red Sox to be our home team," MacDonald said to a raucous ovation. "Love of the Sox is just one of the many ties that bind Nova Scotians to the people of Massachusetts."

...

Kingston’s Don Hyslop, one of the founders of the brotherhood and a Red Sox fan since his first trip to Fenway in 1962, said he pushed so hard his wife joked that the Sox would eventually block his e-mail.

He waited for the trophy at Halifax Stanfield International Airport with 100 fans. When the trophy was brought out of its case for the public, even a few fans of the hated New York Yankees passing through customs wanted to be photographed with the prize.

"How do you describe a dream come true?" Hyslop said at the reception.

Don Hyslop, the co-founder of the Brotherhood, admitted that they had to resort to tactics verging on harassment to get the Red Sox onside.

"We inundated them with e-mails," he said. "My wife joked that they'd put a block on my e-mail address. All we could do was try to convince them it would be a worthy trip, that we had a fan base here who'll be very appreciative."

It worked.

Hyslop was up early yesterday, nervously checking the weather reports. The flight was a bit late and he was at the airport in plenty of time to see the trophy carried through the terminal. It had been uncrated at customs, he said, and "even Yankees fans" wanted to take pictures as it went past.

The trip to Nova Scotia was a huge success. There was a crowd at the airport to welcome them to N.S. The visit to the Legislature in Halifax is described in this link.

The visit to the U.S. Consulate was a special monent as well with both Americans who have served their country abroad and Canadians sharing in the joy of the Trophy being in Halifax. The first night was finished off with 200 BBB members and guests hosting the Red Sox in a Halifax eatery named fittingly Boston Pizza. Today was unbelievable. It started early with a visit to a Children's Hospital where young patients, parents and staff not only got up close with the Trophy but also had a chance to try on Mr. Steedman's ring and give Wally a big hug. There were many moments that touched the heartstrings of all of us that were part of this tour. As someone said we had a visit to the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame where over 1000 people got to get their photos done with the trophy. We were then on to a school in an economically disadvantaged area of the city where 200 young students fell in love with Wally and where our BBB goup donated $1000 worth of new books to the school's library in honor of the Sox's visit. Our final stop on the tour was to the area's largest mall where people lined the route to the trophy for around 2 hrs of photo taking.
The event made the National news in Canada and was covered by 3 major television networks.

Jeff Goldberg - Objects Of Their Affection; Lucchino Offers Exhibits A & B As Evidence Of New Era For Red Sox

Larry Lucchino is all Boston nowadays, but he's still a Yale man. His alma mater was one of several stops Lucchino made Friday in Connecticut, his two Red Sox World Series trophies in tow.

Perhaps better than anyone in the Red Sox front office, Lucchino can appreciate the perspective of the Red Sox fan in the Land of Steady Habits and split loyalties; a mind-set where the only thing better than a Sox victory is a Yankees defeat.

In the 21st century, it is the Red Sox with more World Series titles than the Yankees, or any other team. The Red Sox won their second title in four years in October. That brought another World Series trophy tour to Connecticut, another chance to celebrate beating the Yankees in their own backyard.

It will also be on display at WZON’s annual Hot Stove Baseball Night at the Bangor Civic Center, starting at 5:30 p.m. The session at UMaine is free, but the Hot Stove Night is an exclusive event open only to those with tickets.

"We had already talked to the Red Sox about getting the trophy here on the 21st for our Hot Stove night," said WZON program director Dale Duff. "And from late December on, we’ve been talking to [Governor John Baldacci’s] people.

"We knew all along we wanted to make it available to the public, so we’ve been working with the governor’s office to put it on display somewhere because we knew we could only fit 500 into the civic center."

The trophy will also be on display for members of the Maine National Guard and families of soldiers earlier in the day.

"I appreciate the Red Sox for keeping our soldiers and their families in mind when bringing this piece of history to Maine," Baldacci said in a press release. "This will be a memorable day for sports fans."
