Five managers and executives were elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Monday under revamped rules that created separate Veterans Committee ballots.
World Series-winning managers Billy Southworth and Dick Williams will be joined in the Class of 2008 on July 27 at Cooperstown, N.Y., by former Commissioner Bowie Kuhn and owners Walter O'Malley and Barney Dreyfuss.

In the battle of Good versus Bad, Bad won big time! Bowie Kuhn finally defeated his arch nemesis Marvin Miller and Walter O'Malley stuck it to his former underling Buzzy Bavasi one more time.

There's no doubt that O'Malley had a great impact on the game by moving his team (and the Giants) to the west coast. But, Bavasi's role in integrating baseball is still largely unappreciated. He was in the minor league system with the Dodgers when they first scouted black players. Then, he was in charge of the Nashua, NH team that featured Newcombe and Campanella.

Two former Boston managers, Williams and Southworth made it in.
