I was wondering if someone knew when he is eligible for free agency? Cotts says he has 3 years of service time making him available in 2010 but mlb4u says he is a FA in 2009. Can someone clear this up for me, please.

From an espn article....

But Holliday isn't eligible for free agency until after the 2009 season, and his agent, Scott Boras, has a history of going year-to-year with players through the salary arbitration process.

What is a super two?

A player with three or more years of service, but less than six years, may file for salary arbitration. In addition, a player can be classified as a "Super Two" and be eligible for arbitration with less than three years of service. A player with at least two but less than three years of Major League service shall be eligible for salary arbitration if he has accumulated at least 86 days of service during the immediately preceding season and he ranks in the top 17 percent in total service in the class of Players who have at least two but less than three years of Major League service, however accumulated, but with at least 86 days of service accumulated during the immediately preceding season.

why are you contemplating something that doesn't require consideration for another four or five years? theo's not a dope as our experience has shown. he'll realize manny's value, although declining naturally with age as with any and every other player, will not be precipitous. it never is with the truly great hitters like manny, foxx, williams, etc. the red sox hold the option for '09 and '10 which, since theo's not a moron, they'll easily pick up even at $20m a year. so, at the earliest and assuming nothing is done to extend manny's contract, this is a non-issue until summer 2010 (around July 31 i'd guess).

Any idea what the Red Sox should do to replace Dustin Pedroia in the event we lose him after the 2012 season?
