Yeah, and in the offseason, one week after the meetings. Who would have thunk it?

Overall, this trade seems to favor Houston. Looks like they just put together 5 junk players and offered them up. Scott is a good option to start over Payton, but none of these guys come across as impact players.

Ah, and remember the days when Tejada could've garnered a huge deal...

Patton is a good pitching prospect, and Costanzo isn't bad if he cuts down his K's. Tejada's market declined significantly over the past year, so I think Baltimore actually did pretty well given the circumstances. The trade really makes no sense for the 'Stros, who are still just a third place team.

Stupid trade for the Astros. Especially days before the Mitchell report...

Im not really fond of the prospects they gave up anyway. Costanzo and Scott have some promise but arent exciting and Patton was okay, though his star has fallen. Still, the Orioles needed to do a trade like this, and I sitll dont see how it helps the Astros.

Scott is another one of my dad's kids. Turned out to be a very decent player. I feel bad that he has to go to Baltimore.

No, I meant that Tejada could have been traded for Manny. The Red Sox asked about a 1 for 1 swap but the O's turned that down. I bet they are kicking themselves for that, and all the other trade offers they got for him.

Orioles wanted Papelbon in the Tejada/Manny trade as well
Axis Blunts
Both teams have nothing to lose by making this deal. The O's will always live in the shadow of the Sox and the Yanks by being a team in the AL East and they need to try a rebuild once again. As for the Astros the NL Central is a mess and a player like Tejada is a shot in the arm for them and their fans. Great move management wise by making a trade for a big name player to satisfy their fans after Biggio retiring. Tejada might just have a breakout year, he should take a few pointers from Lowell.

A) Adam Everett sucks at the plate. The Stro's can't keep going giving up two out of nine. Tejada gives them a boost of offense. Looking at his hit charts all of his home, homeruns were pulled to left and most them were down the line. Minutemaid park has a shorter left field line and left center is very similiar. Moving to the National League I think should help his homer run totals. He'll see a lot more fastballs. Yes, his name will probably come up in the Mitchell Report, but so will 50-80 more guys. the Stro's didn't really give up too much to get a "offensive" shortstop.

B) As someone said before he still is a brand name shortstop.

C) Kaz Matsui should put up comprable if not better number than the corpse of Craig Biggio. Less homers but more steals. If they can somehow get another starter to go behind Oswalt the Astro's could probably stay in contention with Milwaukee and Chicago.

I think it was a terrible trade for the Orioles, but I think they were so damned determined to keep him away from an AL team, they accepted this dreck. They picked up a couple of pieces whose upside is a 4th or 5th starter. Luke Scott may be turned in another deal or cut loose (that's how bad he looked at the end of last year).

I don't think trading Tejada for 5 average to miserable pieces was worth it. I think if they had considered sending him to LAA for one single top prospect (Wood perhaps), they would've been better off. Angelos is further setting back the O's and now they will be very lucky to stay out of last place in '08.

Everett sucks hard with the bat, but he' the best defensive SS in baseball by a wide margin. He was somewhere around +35 in the field. Tejada was somewhere around -8 which isn't bad, but isn't good. His bat is in steady decline, and when you add in defense, the two of them are a wash. My guess is that despite what Wade says, Tejada will be at third base, and Wiggington will be traded.

Edit- Everett non tendered.

And, he's officially on the list. What were the Astros thinking?
