Scott Van Voorhis, Herald - Sox plan to offer trips to season opener in Tokyo

Fenway Sports Group, the business arm of the Red Sox [team stats], is looking to cash in on the team’s first-ever season opener in Japan with travel packages for devoted fans.

In the works are plans to charter a flight to Japan for a group of Sox fans, who would pony up anywhere from $4,000 to $6,000 for the experience.

The package would include airfare, lodging, and tickets to the 50,000-seat Tokyo Dome to watch the defending World Champions take on the Oakland A’s on March 25 and 26, executives familiar with the planning say.

this sounds great, but what about if you just want to buy the tickets and arrange your own trip? when are these tickets released and are they limited to season ticket holders etc?

More info on the trip to Tokyo:

Scott Van Voorhis - Fenway Sports: Fly friendly skies of Sox Nation

The travel packages, which start at $4,999 and go up to $12,500, are being offered by Fenway Sports Group, the team’s business arm. There’s room for as many as 300 Sox fans to make the trip to Japan, said Tim Zue, vice president of FSG Ventures. It is one of several trips to see the Sox play on the road offered under the Red Sox Destinations program, but it’s the team’s first overseas trip, he said.

Packages include:

roundtrip airfare on a private charter jet with Red Sox business executives;

tickets to two Sox games against the A’s at the Tokyo Dome, as well as an exhibition game against a local team;

four nights at the New Otani Hotel in Tokyo, where both teams will be staying;

a private reception with Sox players and executives;

Red Sox travel bags and other merchandise.

thanks for this, I had also got this today via the web. Sounds pretty cool, though pricey. I am seriously considering it if "a private reception with Red Sox players" means the starting lineup and not a 1 on 1 with Doug Mirabelli ;-)

10th man plan holders (and presumably all STH's) receive a $500 discount per person.

$4500 - tempting, very tempting.

Then the logical side of my brain says that it's only a 5 day trip with a boatload of plave travel.

If only money grew on trees.....

Perhaps it should also include a 5 day supply of Imodium AD.
