I agree with the comment posted under the article...

Yay! You can have him. This guy stunk up the airwaves in Boston. He's your problem now. Thank you from Red Sox Nation.

I hope he does better in that market.

So this is like getting sent down to the minors, right?

EDIT: Oh yeah, good riddance you no talent, junior high school voiceish, no sense of timing, hack. Boy, its great to see the Sox responding to what the fans want. Cervasio and Geffner gone... that's awesome. Luchhino responsible? If so - thanks, man. RSN owes you one.

In many respects it's a great opportunity for Glenn. He's going from a part-time position to a full-time one, and as a native of southern Florida he's going home.

The bigger question is who replaces him here. It is my understanding that O'Brien still has ESPN commitments, although I don't know that for sure.

I don't have any personal dislike for Glenn Geffner. I just thought he was the wrong speed for the Sox booth. I think he'll be perfect in Florida with the Marlins, spewing his stats and life histories as he steps on the actual game action.

I'd love for the Sox to put Eck in the booth for Geffner's games. When Eck couldn't do it, invite a guest color person.

When did Cervasio decide to go?

Geffner was so bad I was listening to the games on 950 AM when he came on...and I don't understand Spanish.

When we played the Yankees I would listen to Sterling and Suzan instead of him.

Can the Sox stop screwing around and just bring back Sean McDonough already?

Enough. He was the most talented broadcaster they've had in years and he should be part of the organization.

Dave O'Brien has been replaced by JP Dellacamera as the lead MLS commenatator on the ESPN networks. It's been known that he was planning on scaling back his ESPN duties to assume the larger role on Sox radio broadcasts.

Is this where the Geffner fanatics come out of the woodwork a la Tina Cervasio?

Geffner was just plain awful. If I remember correctly, I believe it was planned that Dave O'Brien would move into the Sox job full-time once his ESPN duties were up by 2008. This could be incorrect, but that's what I remember hearing.

If I was ever asked to describe a Glenn Geffner broadcast, I'd simply refer the asker to this video:

And BOOM goes the dynamite!!!

There was an article in the Herald today about who will be in the booth for EEI this year.

Castiglione will obviously back, with O'Brien joining him for the vast majority of games (at least 135 of 162). When O'Brien can't make it (due to his contract with ESPN), Dale Arnold will take over. If neither O'Brien or Dale are available, Jon Rish will call the game.

This is all good news, O'Brien was great last year and I always enjoyed listening to Dale call Bruins games on NESN.

The five people that listen to the Marlins in English will probably enjoy him.

Dale is a good choice, though it will be strange to hear two announcers with non-radio voices doing games. Not that Trupe and Geffner had radio voices, but Dale and Joe will sound like a couple of chipmunks in the booth. Well hey, all is good.

I'm listening to Dale call today's game, and he isn't bad. I'm pleasantly surprised. He's made a couple errors identifying players, but that's not hard to do with substitutions in spring training. He's got a good sense of timing.
