Brian McNamee told congressional investigators Thursday that Roger Clemens' wife took human growth hormone before she appeared with the pitcher in Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue in 2003, according to a Washington source.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball..._roger_cle.htmlI wondered last Tuesday why Debbie Clemens wasn't in tow along with all those lawyers when Roger showed up at the Congressional office building. I speculated to myself that she was afraid she'd be asked to give her testimony, too -- but she certainly could have refused (then been served with a subpoena).
Now, it's almost a certainty she will be called. And I'll bet if she tells the truth, she'll admit to being the one who gave Roger his shots before McNamee came on the scene (between 1996 and 1998), and after Roger left the Yankees to pitch for the Astros.
I can't believe how convoluted this issue -- Roger so vehemently disagreeing with the findings of the Mitchell Report -- has become.

Agreed - I think they thought they could a) intimidate him with their lawyers and the threat of lawsuits b) scare him off by bringing up his past issues, hoping to make him want out of the spotlight or c) get him to slip up with something that would undermine his testimony - i.e. the tape where you know they were hoping McNamee would ask for money.
They figured if they exerted the right pressure, McNamee would either give up or slip up and render all his testimony useless. I think they forget that if McNamee is shown to be lying - he's going to jail. This isn't really playing chicken - McNamee has every reason to tell the truth.

When I was wondering about Debbie Clemens' absence accompanying Roger the other day, that ad flashed through my head, and I was wondering if what she was saying and Roger wasn't hearing was,
QUOTE
"Are you kidding??? Roger, I've told you and told you since the beginning of 2004 that YOU'RE GOING TO GET CAUGHT if you keep returning to this team and that wanting to pitch some more! You can't keep taking PEDs and expecting to ask for shorter and shorter seasons, and not have people suspect something! And if they suspect you, they'll suspect me!!!"
...or something to that effect.

I think Clemens' issue of denial off the bat was a HUGE mistake that he cannot backtrack on. Can, but due to his insolence/arrogance won't. Once Pettite came out and admitted to it, Clemens was left out to dry. Once he said absolutely not, he was committed to winning this thing. I just hope he ends up doing time. Doing the roids was one thing, really something i could barely care about, but lying under oath is a whole other can of normal sized, non-PED enhanced worms.

If you go

Colin Cowherd is going on right now on ESPN Radio about how Debbie Clemens should do a new work-out video called "Birth Your Way to Flat Abs". He says if she looks that good after having 4 kids she should be saying "yeah, after every kid was born my abs were flatter than they were before!" It was funnier than anything else we've heard this last week....

It might have something to do with the fact that the guy who is responsible for exposing Clemens is the one stating that Debbie also did HGH.
And to answer your question, you are in denial because all of your team's World Series Championships this decade have been tainted.

I continue to marvel at the late Will McDonough's depiction of Clemens as "The Texas Con Man." He fixed that sobriquet on Clemens in 1997 and it becomes more accurate every day here in 2008.
Imagine how Pettitte feels, having to contradict his boyhood idol. They haven't communicated as friends in more than a month. Now their lawyers talk to each other. I think Andy sees the con in Roger more clearly with every passing day. Roger's like the guy who did coke with a pal, they get caught, and Roger denies that he ever used the stuff. Actually, that's pretty much what happened here.

He was referring to 2001-present, not within the last 10 years. That's what he meant by "this decade" otherwise he would have said "in the last ten years." If he had said the latter,

Jessica Canseco's book "Juicy" where she describes what steroids did to Canseco. I kinda think they affected his brain matter as well as other, uh, organs...
Canseco said in that recent affidavit:
QUOTE
I have never had a conversation with Clemens in which he expressed any interest in using steroids or human growth hormone," Canseco said in the affidavit. "Clemens has never asked me to give steroids or human growth hormone, and I have never seen Clemens "use, possess or ask for steroids or human growth hormone."
There's a lot of wiggle room in that statement. I think what McNamee was getting at was that Clemens was doing a little investigative work asking Canseco...something...in that tete-a-tete (or threesome) at the 1998 party in Florida, as a precursor to actually approaching McNamee. Canseco has already documented in his book that he had multiple conversations with Clemens about different types of steroids and how to use them. And there is no way Clemens' lawyers will try to discredit him because he is the same person now saying Clemens wasn't at the party.

Oh, yeah, one more thing -- Rep. Tom Davis has denied actually saying Pettitte's testimony is consistent with McNamee's, saying Pettitte's affidavit doesn't get into a lot of detail. What made me laugh, though was this, referring to Pettitte, but it could also be applied to Roger:
QUOTE
"No ballplayer in their right mind wants to come up before a congressional committee. It wasn't like he could add anything," Davis said.
If tomorrow's testimony goes all awry for Roger, does that open the door for a plea of temporary insanity?

I thought Debbie's mouth was going to disappear completely from sight, she was compressing her lips so much when her hubby was reading (thanks to some loose interpretation of witness testimony under oath vs. not, I'm sure) her statement about getting an HGH shot from McNamee. She looked very tense, and her body movements were odd, leaning forward, then back, then forward again, like she was very uncomfortable.
I don't know if I'm "misremembering" this, but was there actual testimony from anybody -- Debbie's unsworn statement, Roger under oath, or Brian McNamee under oath, or any of the Congressional Hearing speakers reading from depositions -- that Debbie got the HGH shot in the prescribed place, her belly button (abdomen)? It seems to be I heard (or thought I heard) references to her getting shot in her butt. But that'd be wrong, wouldn't it, if it were an HGH shot?
I guess I could look it up, but my eyeballs are falling out of my head, I've watched so much TV and stared at this monitor so much all day. I probably won't watch TV for a month now.
