The April 2 game against Oakland has been changed to a 12:35 pm PDT start, which will be 3:35 pm EDT. The reasons are stated in the linked story. That will mean no TV for the left coast of the nation, and a game during the workday for those of us back East.

Susan Slusser, SF Chronicle - For Boston's sake, game goes to daytime

Many ticket holders for the April 2 game against Boston at the Coliseum will not be happy to learn that the game is no longer at 7:05 p.m. The start is now 12:35 p.m., and the A's aren't too thrilled, either.

The team had nothing to do with the decision, which, according to team officials was imposed by Major League Baseball at the behest of the Players Association. The Players Association argued that the Red Sox, who have a day off April 3 before playing at Toronto on April 4, need adequate time to adjust to Eastern time after a week in Japan and then a week on the West Coast.

...

It's certainly not ideal for TV rights holder KICU (Channel 36), which does not air day games on weekdays. So the game will not be on TV, KICU will not have the world champion Red Sox on in prime time, and the station's first A's telecast of the season now will be April 4, when Cleveland is in Oakland.

Typically, games against the Red Sox are near sellouts. The team has no plans to exchange tickets for fans who already have purchased seats but who might not be able to make a day game.

Well, if every fan has to be inconvenienced for the sake of the team's rest and level of performance...then screw the fans, I'll take what benefits the players on the actual team, even though I'm sad that I will now miss most of the game before I get home from work. This isn't exactly at the top of the list of inconveniences for the fans of both teams due to this Japan trip, it's just another annoyance on top of all the others.

Personally this is fantastic news...I was not going to make either the 4/1 or 4/2 games in the evening, but now I can work a half day and (hopefully) sit in the sun and catch the game. And I expect a lot of good tickets to hit Craig's List given the time change. Woo hoo!

I wonder if I can clear my calendar and take a vacation day to see the Sox.......
