The most cerebral pitcher in the organization is now an Indian. Best of luck to Craig as he joins one of the best teams in baseball.

Nick Cafardo - Breslow to Indians

Breslow, who was out of opitions, was originally selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 26th round of the 2002 draft out of Yale. The Trumbull, CT native first appeared in the majors in 2005 at San Diego and owns a career Major League record of 0-2 w/a 2.86 ERA in 27 games (28.1IP, 27H, 9ER, 19BB, 26K) with the Padres and Red Sox in 2005-06.

Yale graduate Breslow determined to claim job in Indians bullpen

Craig Breslow has dreamed of being a major-league pitcher almost from the day he first tossed a ball.A life-changing experience at age 12, though, had the Cleveland Indians' new left-hander setting even loftier goals.Breslow is no ordinary 27-year-old relief pitcher with an 0-2 career record. A Yale graduate with a degree in molecular biophysics and biochemistry, he recently formed a non-profit foundation to help children with cancer."My sister Lesley was 14 at the time, two years older than me, when she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer," Breslow said Tuesday. "It was a scary time."She's a survivor and it has been 15 years, but ever since that day I have always wanted to do whatever I could to try and make a difference."All of Breslow's immediate efforts are focused on trying to win a spot in Cleveland's bullpen. The Indians claimed him off waivers Sunday from the Boston Red Sox.He struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to save a 7-5 win over the New York Yankees in his Indians debut.

Paul Hoynes - Reliever Breslow has to like his chances at making Cleveland Indians roster

Yet why is Breslow still pitching instead of using his degree? "This is what I have a passion to day," said Breslow. "The window of time I have to play baseball is a lot smaller than it is to do research or go to medical school. This is what I want to be doing." Breslow said if he didn't play baseball, he would have gone to medical school to study orthopedics. "It would have kept me connected to sports," he said. Breslow is 0-2 with a 2.86 ERA in 27 games in the big leagues. Jason Michaels was his first strikeout victim. "I was playing for San Diego and he was playing for Philadelphia," said Breslow. "No, I haven't brought it up to him."

Rats!

I signed up to follow Craig in the Prospects forum; I always liked two things about him-
1) The port side is different - especially in regards to the curveball.
2) The way he gets guys out, and they're pi**ed - HOW did that guy whiff me? He ain't got sh*t!!!!
Like Maddux, only with less stuff.

Insert obligatory Bulldog / Yalie pun here.

Best of luck to Breslow. He's an easy guy to root for.

May his days with the Indians include many innings of scoreless relief against the Yanks.
Cambridge
Two appearances and two scoreless innings for Breslow so far. They've been of the mop up variety, but it's nice to see him back in the big leagues and getting hitters out

Breslow Picked Up By Twins; Left-Hander Claimed Off Waivers From Cleveland

NEW HAVEN, Conn.--The Major League career of former Yale baseball captain Craig Breslow '02 has moved to its next stop--Minneapolis, Minn. The left-hander was signed by the Minnesota Twins on Thursday and made his Twins debut Saturday night against the New York Yankees. Breslow retired all five batters he faced, including three by strikeout.

Breslow made Cleveland's Opening Day roster out of spring training and appeared in seven games for the Indians. He was designated for assignment on May 23 and signed by Minnesota, a team that has been interested in him for a few years, four days later.

"I'm glad to have a team" Breslow said on the Twins' website. "Obviously, I would rather be in the big leagues anywhere than in the Minor Leagues. It seems like I will have an opportunity here to show what I can do, and that is all I can ask for."

David Borges - Breslow aims to strike out cancer with new foundation

Craig Breslow made his way across the field at Fenway Park on a recent afternoon, exchanging greetings with ex-teammate Jason Varitek before taking a seat in the visitors’ dugout.

He was upbeat, happy, seemingly perfectly content with his career path — and why not? Waived by the Red Sox just before the end of spring training, then virtually ignored for two months after being picked up by the Cleveland Indians, Breslow seems to have found a perfect home with the Minnesota Twins.

Claimed off waivers by the Twins on May 29 after being designated for assignment by Cleveland, Breslow immediately found himself thrust into the fire two nights later, in the seventh inning of a tie game against the Yankees. It was welcome duty for Breslow, who went great swaths of time — 13 days at one point, 11 days another, 10 another — wasting away in the Indians’ bullpen.

...

On Nov. 8, about a week after the World Series — and, Breslow hopes, the Twins’ season — comes to an end, Breslow’s newly-founded Strike 3 Foundation will hold it first major fund-raising event. The First Pitch Celebrity Gala at Woodbridge Country Club figures to feature some of the connections Breslow has made over his five seasons in the major leagues — two of them with the Red Sox — in an event that aims to raise some $50,000 towards pediatric cancer research.

“It’s our first substantial event,” said Breslow, who kicked off the Strike 3 Foundation with close friend Joe Lizza a few months ago. “We’ve (already) raised more than I expected we would, considering it’s just been basically word-of-mouth through friends.”
