I don't get it? I guess that joke flew right over my head.

"It sounds like a tall tale, and it would take more than a Red Sox T-shirt to put a curse on the Yankees," team spokesman Howard Rubenstein told the Post.

I heard there's a Seneca Indian burial ground under the new stadium. Yeah, start that rumor.

It wasn't a joke. They really did it.

Joy of Sox added this:

About 6 months ago I was sipping a pint in my local when a guy I'd don't believe I'd ever met before tapped me on the shoulder. "I hear you're the local Sox fan" he said. He told me he was a huge Sox fan as well and after a few minutes of the typical crap, he said he had something he knew I'd love to learn about.

He then took an ID out of his pocket and handed it to me. It was a construction pass for the New Yankee Stadium. If I recall correctly, it actually had a Yankee logo on it. He told me that he had been working on the Stadium for a while and was "making sure it gets built right!" He then went on to read me a laundry list of the various things he had buried in the Stadium. The T-shirts were just the tip of the iceburg!

According to this guy, there's a ton of Sox (and even a few Met items) buried deep! Some of my favorites were a pair of batting helmets in locations I won't disclose and his piece de resistance which was the "appropriate" placement of his four 2004 Red Sox commemorative coins! "I've got so much shit buried in there, they'd have to tear it down to the ground to find it all" he said. "But just to be sure, I've got a bunch of stuff I've never told anybody about!"

He seemed credible enough at the time (I even posted about him somewhere around here). But this morning's Post now has me convinced the guy was legit!"

I don't mind it as long as it isn't taken too seriously. It's just good fun built around the rivalry. It doesn't matter if stuff is buried there or not, if it annoys even one Yankees fan then I enjoy it.

What about hexes? Are those ok?

I have no problem with silly baseball superstition as long as,

1) It doesn't become a 3-inning conversation during every motherf**king nationally televised Sox/Yankees game.

2) The people responsible for this particular curse, or jinx, or hex know what the hell they're doing. Black magic is dangerous stuff, and the last thing we need is for some stupid amateurs to f**k it up and charm the Yankees, or curse the Sox, or call forth a succubus.

Agreed, you & BS are right. I just get really sick of hearing it. Plus people are stupid.

Except us.

Seconded. CHB needs to take them with him to his grave.

Tomorrow's game is on Fox, what gets mentioned first:

a) the score or recap of prior night's game
b) 'curse' on new Yankee Stadium
c) hawk attacking Alexa Rodriguez

Some sort of convoluted "Jimmy Hoffa/Giants Stadium vs. Sox shirt/Yankee Stadium" reference.

And when the new Yankee Stadium collapses and they find the foundation was weakened by all the Red Sox stuff buried in the cement, the rivalry will get kicked up another notch or two

A Yankees rep is apparently now saying it was nothing more than a joke and did not happen.

Yeah, of course it was!!!

That's the part that makes me laugh... how much it annoys Yankee fans.

I do have to admit, although I dont go in for superstitions, it would p*** me off if they built a new Fenway and some Yankee fan p**** put Yankee stuff in the concrete.

Chuck MacLean, Herald - Sox fans don’t give a shirt; N.Y. papers boo-hoo ’Not true!’

Early yesterday morning, stories emerged that while working on the new $1.3 billion Yankee Stadium, a carmine-hose fan had sunk a Red Sox [team stats] team shirt into the concrete under the visiting team locker room.

“I’m amazed they’re not going to bust (the foundation) up to get it out,” said Russ Johansen, a Baltimore native who has been a Red Sox fan since 2002.

NY Post - 'UNDER'MINER A BX. TRAITOR; HARDHAT BOASTS: MY BURIED SOX JERSEY WILL CURSE YANKS FOR 30 YRS.

The culprit is a mason - born and raised in the Country Club section of southeast Bronx.

"As I stuck it in, I said, 'The Yankees are done for the next 30 years.' I only put a 30-year curse because I'm 46 and in 30 years I'll be dead, and I won't care if the Yankees win then," said "Gino," who spoke from a construction job in Manhattan.

Already, the man's co-workers defaced his station wagon with Yankee slogans written in shoe polish.

Long a Yankee hater, the turncoat hatched his plan last August after refusing to set foot on the job out of spite.

Karen Matthews, AP - Yanks unearth Sox jersey at new stadium

Team officials watched Sunday as construction workers removed the jersey, with slugger David Ortiz's name on it, from 2 feet of concrete in a service corridor of the stadium that's under construction.

The team says a construction worker -- who is a Red Sox fan -- recently buried the jersey there while on the job. Two other supervisors found the tattered shirt Saturday.

The Yankees plan to donate the jersey to charity, and may pursue a lawsuit against the construction worker.

You really think so? I'd think people would find it amusing, even if only mildly.

Were I a fan of another team, what probably would piss me off is having Sox/Yanks be both the Fox Saturday game and the ESPN Sunday night game.

I didn't realize it was an Ortiz jersey.

THANK F**KING GOD THEY DUG IT UP, THE SLUMP IS NOW OVER.

Yeah, I was floored when I heard they broke up concrete to get to the jersey. Part of me thinks this may be some sort of publicity stunt.

The Yanks are donating the shirt to the Jimmy Fund w/ the expectation that it will be auctioned off. I'd say that's probably the best ending to this stupid story possible.

I think the issue there is that you can't have construction guys deviating at will from the plans the engineers drew up and decided were safe It's not that a t-shirt is going to cause the building to collapse but I can see why it's a good idea to prevent free-lancing by building contractors.

I tend to agree. Stupid from the start, and it only got worse as it progressed.

Plus the idiot used a home jersey with a name on it. He deserves criminal penalties for that little screw up. wink.gif

The current top bid on ebay for the jersey is $30,201.00 with 6 days left to bid. I know the money is going to Dana Farber, but that is an insane amount.

This is the best story so far this year. I was laughing just to think how Yankee fans were feeling, now that they're the ones cursed. I can't believe some of you guys don't think the same way.
