Full Version: 2008 Colorado Rockies regular season thread
Royal Rooters > WE'RE TALKIN' BASEBALL > AROUND THE MAJORS

living here i thought i might keep RSN informed regarding the team the RS vanquished in the 2007 World Series....at the very least, just seeing this thread should conjure some good memories...

the Rockies are a fun team to watch, as fun as any National League team can be....they're young, they swing the bat, are aggressive on the base path and provide white-knuckle pitching experiences....all good fun....

after stumbling out of the gate, last night the mighty Rox climbed over .500 for the first time this season with their 4th straight win....

here's a couple articles about last night's game:

My only Rockies question is this: When will Rhode Island's Chris Iannetta become the regular catcher?

barring an injury to Torrealba or if Iannetta starts swinging a hot bat, not this season.....there was some discussion about keeping Iannetta in Colorado Springs this season but catcher is exactly where the Rockies are deepest....

Veteran manager sides with veteran player. Torrealba saved Clint's butt last season when Iannetta wasn't ready to handle big league pitching. Chris is hitting around .340 with a .423 OBP so far (small sample, 23 ABs) while Yorvit is struggling in the low .200s. But you're right, it's Yorvit's job. Didn't he sign a new contract in the offseason?

Beware of players working on new contracts.

he did indeed....it was announced that he (Torrealba) had signed with the Mets and then, for whatever reason, the Mets backed off and he re-signed with the Rox....

i believe the plan is for Iannetta to gradually take over the position but, you're right, Hurdle (perhaps through longtime friend and pitching coach Bob Apodaca) seems more comfortable with Torrealba right now.

Hurdle managed Torrealba in the low minors when Yorvit was 18 years old. They've both come a long way since then.

not so much.....Iannetta was the hero of last night's game and has taken over as the starting catcher...

your guy has become the silver lining of a very dark cloud.

Yes, I've been following his exploits this week.

NL teams that win the pennant tend not to do so well the next year.

Helluva effort by CF Rick Ankiel against the Rockies the other night, throwing out two base runners to save the game.

Yeah if they end the season on a 19 game winning streak they should be fine...

I don't follow them very much, but Coors Field is beautiful facility and the surrounding area is a ton of fun. I made it to Game 3 last year and wish I had gotten there earlier in the day so that I could really check it out. It is on the list for a return trip.

I was in Denver on a business trip in the offseason a few short years ago. Great steakhouses but I didn't see a lot more, but I'm not much for bars anymore.

Rockies: another flash in the pan. Their red faced manager is a pain in the ass to listen to as far as I'm concerned. On the 2007 world series DVD and another I have on the season + post season, I always fast forward through his drivel.

And the Rocks win 18-17! Great game. Came back from 13-4.

Rhode Island product Chris Iannetta wins it with a walk-off single. Matt Holliday did all the heavy lifting with two HRs, one a slam, and a base hit in the ninth to set the table.
