Blue Jays release Thomas after slow start to 2008 seasonQUOTE
"Our best opportunity is to put other guys in the lineup at this point," Ricciardi told The Associated Press. "Obviously, reduced playing time is not something that he was interested in. In order to let him go forward and get on with his career, I think it's fair to do it at this point."
The move leaves the Blue Jays on the hook for $7,081,967, the remainder of his $8 million salary this year in the $18.12 million, two-year contract the 39-year-old Thomas signed in November 2006.

he shouldn't be out of work long.
he's better than at least a few teams' current DH.

Dude can still hit. I'll be glad to see him out of the division.

Frank Thomas is a crotchety, misproportioned asswipe. He deserves anything he gets. But he will get another job. No doubt about it.

Wonder how long it's going to take Barry Bonds' agent to give JP a call...I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he ends up there.

I thought Paul Maccarthey had hired Barry Bonds. Paul likes old bats with one good leg. Besides that, Frank Thomas has a reputation of being a pain in the butt. And hopefully no one will want to put up with all the baggage that goes with having bonds on your team.

That must've been pretty evident for Toronto to release him and eat the contract. That's a pretty hefty sum to have on the books for no production.
