Apparently he wasn't feeling well before the game, and was taken to the ER. And his appendix is coming out...
More info when I can find a link.

I have not seen it listed anywhere else like in the Globe, but in his post game interview on NESN, Terry Franconca said that Brandon Moss was taken to the hospital this afternoon with a bad appendix.

Gosh, this is terrible. Most of you know, Brandon played for Loganville High School, a huge rival of the school I coach at, Madison County High School in NE Georgia. (We had to beat Loganville last week to get into the Georgia state playoffs for the first time in five years). So, this is a local kid who made "The Show". I know everyone down here is hoping that he makes a complete and speedy recovery. Get well soon, kid!

Well, this was stunning and troubling to read. Most importantly, let's hope for a full and quick recovery.
As far as the roster goes, he was probably going to be sent down anyways with Casey coming back soon. Cora's also coming back. I'd expect to see Lowrie gone.

Nick Cafardo, Globe - Moss undergoes emergency appendectomyLast night during the Sox' 12-4 victory over Tampa Bay, the 24-year-old outfielder underwent an emergency appendectomy at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Late last night, Sox spokesman John Blake said Moss was doing well after surgery.
Manager Terry Francona did not know how long it would take before Moss would be able to return to action. Many players have taken 3-5 weeks to recover from similar procedures.
"[Moss] was feeling ill and the medical team felt that there was a possibility [of an issue with his appendix] rather than just an abdominal flu," said Francona in his postgame news conference. "We took him over there [to Mass. General] right before the game, which was a good idea. We were trying to be safe rather than sorry.
"That makes [Friday night] even more unbelievable. He said he didn't feel good, swung the bat good [2 for 4 with a home run], threw the ball well, and I'm sure he was feeling it."

Moss out of hospitalOutfielder Brandon Moss is out of the hospital after having his appendix removed, according to Sox manager Terry Francona. The manager said Moss will likely go home for about 10 days and then begin his comeback in Fort Myers. No timetable has yet been given for his return.
Moss was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital right before last night's game. He had the surgery last night.
Francona said the team was holding back on a roster move until after today's game. He said his bullpen was in good shape. The Sox were waiting to assess what their biggest need would be going forward. Alex Cora can come off the DL, but he's slated to spend three games starting Wednesday for Pawtucket. Sean Casey is eligible to come off the DL next Sunday. Looks like they caught things early and he must have had a laparascopic procedure. Good news.

I also wish Brandon a speedy recovery, and I'm glad nothing bad happened before his appendectomy, considering the type of baseball he was playing when the symptoms first presented themselves.
But the timing does suck for him. Banged up as our outfield is and with Papi being a little gimpy, he certainly could have gotten some action the next few days. He would have gotten sent down within a week or so, but the man has done nothing but impress during his cups of coffee. You hate to see that interrupted before it needed to have been.

I've long been on the Moss bandwagon, so it's been nice to see him produce in his limited opportunities. While unfortunate, this should only be a speed bump in the big picture of his career. I don't look at Brandon as a future star, but I think he;s shown that he'll be a solid and productive big league player.

I certainly concur, I had my doubts about him, but he's preformed well and been extremely clutch in the minors and has had a few nice, timely hits in the bigs. It seems that he is destined to go to another team to get more playing time, but I'll cheer him whenever he swings by Fenway.

Joe McDonald, ProJo - PawSox 3, Bulls 2: Pauley makes up for offense's failuresTo say Brandon Moss is a gamer would be anunderstatement. The Red Sox outfielder, who had an emergency appendectomy, last Saturday night, has already begun his rehab. He’s been at McCoy the last two days, running and riding the stationary bike. He will leave for Fort Myers, Fla., tomorrow to participate in extended spring training, and if all goes well he should be able to play for the PawSox on May 18.
