I haven't seen any mention to this on the site but Mike Lowell was on EEI the other day talking about his autobiography that he co-wrote with the Herald's Rob Bradford. Sounds like a very interesting read covering such items as his battle with cancer and his father-in-laws 15 years as a politcal prisoner in Cuba. As it was said on EEI, it covers the 3 C's, Cancer, Castro and his new Contract.

Deep Drive: A Long Journey to Finding the Champion Within

Edit - With foreword by Josh Beckett and quotes from Manny Ramirez.

I just got a copy, and am impressed with the first couple of dozen pages. Lowell is certainly one of the more thoughtful and cerebral players on the team, and the same can be said for Bradford as a writer. I'll be very surprised if I don't enjoy the rest of the book.

Steve Buckley mentioned it in his column on Tuesday in the Herald

I think I'll pick up a copy. I was really interested in listening to him talk about Cuba, especially seeing I had friends back in the early '60s who left Cuba right after Castro's coup.

Rob Bradford, Herald - Written in the stars; Diamond comes full circle in Lowell’s life journey

The following is an excerpt from the newly released book “Deep Drive: A Long Journey to Finding The Champion Within,” written by Mike Lowell with Herald sportswriter Rob Bradford.

To understand me it is probably best to get a handle on the makings of my father, the man they call Carlos. Before me, he was the baseball player of the family, and, in some people’s eyes, he still is. When Dad landed in Puerto Rico after leaving Cuba at age 11, he immediately made an impression. He was becoming more of a man, growing with each experience, and his talents on the baseball field were following suit, particularly on the pitching mound. In a few years, Dad’s talents were on display at San Ignacio High School, where he earned an academic scholarship from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. True to form for our family, there was no free ride when it came to playing baseball at St. Joe’s. Dad had to walk on to the team. But two years later he was MVP, and one more season after that came a no-hitter.
