re: Van Every
His 08' stats w/ Pawtucket are respectable:
avg: .287
HR: 6
RBI: 20
He's 7 for his last 17 during his current 5 game hitting streak.
(complete stats)I just went back & read the Cambridge interview w/ Van Every from back in Jan -
Q&AI picked my own highlights:
David Laurila: Give us a scouting report on yourself.
Jonathan Van Every: I’m an extremely above-average defender who is capable of playing all three outfield positions. I would think that would be my main strength. As far as at the plate, I have plus power, but a lack of consistency has probably been my downfall in the past. I’ve shown signs of brilliance but have also shown times of turmoil when things have gone bad. The last couple of years, I’ve done a better job of staying consistent over the course of the season.
DL: Why did you decide to sign with the Red Sox organization?
JVE: It was basically the best offer we had. [
They were willing to put me on the roster and give me an opportunity to contribute at the big league-level, and that’s what everyone wants. Every kid’s dream is to play in the big leagues. I felt this was the best fit for the situation I’m in,
because there’s not a lot of outfield depth here at the centerfield spot.

The off day tomorrow makes this pretty easy:
Friday: Matsuzaka
Saturday: Wakefield
Sunday: Beckett (regular rest)
Monday: Lester (regular rest)
Tuesday: Drumroll........Bartolo Colon (scheduled to pitch Tuesday)
This is just a convenient way of swapping out Buchholz for Colon.
Colon was only allowed to throw 3 innings in his last start (May 10th), I don't think he's yet stretched out enough to make a big league start.
I like the idea of calling up Zink. I mentioned him in a post back when Masterson was called up for a spot start in April too. He's putting up respectable #s down in Pawtucket this season. He's gone 6 or more innings in his last 4 starts & has a season ERA of .291 with just 12 walks in 43 innings pitched.
