Ian Browne - Sox promote reliever Smith; With Boston needing arms, Van Every sent down to Triple-A
BOSTON -- After sweeping the Brewers in a doubleheader on Saturday, the Red Sox made a roster move. They optioned outfielder Jonathan Van Every to Triple-A Pawtucket, while purchasing the contract of right-handed reliever Chris Smith from Pawtucket.
It will mark the first trip to the Major Leagues for the 27-year-old Smith, who was selected by the Red Sox in the fourth round of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft.

In 10 games in Pawtucket, Smith was 1-2 with a 1.45 ERA. Of his 10 appearances, four were starts.
