Royal Rooters > THE COOLER > ROYAL ROOTERS ARCHIVES > 2008 REGULAR SEASON GAME THREADS
RedSoxAnni
Game time: 7:05 pm

Scheduled starters: Gil Meche (3-5, 5.98) v. Justin Masterson (0-0, 1.50)

The game will be on NESN

Boston weather: 5 pm observation at KBOS: Wind out of the south at 12 mph, visibility 10 miles, few clouds at 5,000 feet, scattered clouds at 8,500 feet, overcast layer at 20,000 feet, temperature 61F, DP 37F

Forecast: There's a fast-moving low to our south and it's moving toward the southeast and will be out of the area around midnight. There's a tight band of showers over southern NE now. It looks like the heavy rain is going to be concentrated in a narrow area south of Boston, possibly on the South Shore and the Cape. If they get any rain at Fenway it will be light and won't last very long. The wind is south now and will be southeast later in the evening. That's blowing in from right.
BigSlick
Last night was fun, Masterson should do what Lester did.

You forgot to spell his name wrong.
BigSlick
Nice start by Mussina tonight.

That's really not nice though, he did get two guys out and would have gotten 3 if not for an error by Jeter.
SFFM38
^^^ GASP! you said Jeter??? No way it can't be according to Jon Miller/Joe Morgan ( they were ballwashing Jeter ) when Mets was playing against the Yankees. barf.gif

Hi,

Anyone else having problems with MLB Game Day audio tonight?

Thanks, - Jay

Cancel the panic attack!!! Back in business. Life is again good.

BigSlick
I knew that run was scoring when they gave us Masterson's combined line for his two starts with the runner still on base.
orrie
Alright, so Okajima and then Paps and we're good. The kid, Masterson, pitched well again. We're in good shape. And of course, I'd never bring up where the Evil Empire is, right now. That would be gloating. That's bad.
SFFM38
How can Gil Meche have 8K's against RS ??? his ERA are over 5.50 He is not that good!
Jack Hayden
Meche is actually kind of underrated, in my opinion.
BigSlick
So maybe it isn't just inherited runners?

This guy's getting around on Paps.

(cheap edit) But he can't hit the splittah.
BigSlick
Billy Butler, you've just been Pap-smeared
BamaBoSox
Why couldn't we have forgotten the bats last night? You know, when an infield single would have been a banner night in comparison to Kansas City.

Three more outs 'til water, #58.
thanman2
BALLS. Thank you, Papelbon...now, an insurance run would be nice.

Two would be better. But beggars can't be choosers.
SFFM38
A-Rod just blasted 2 run shot and He just came off DL TODAY! Ugh.
BigSlick
499 coming up. Book it.

Edit: Or not. I'm going to Boston on June 6th (or whatever that Saturday is). I really don't want to see him still trying for #500 when I go.

Unless A-Rod himself can hit a 10 run homerun, it's rather unlikely to be an issue.

Edit: Manny looks like he's pressing too much to hit 499.
samba guy
Come on, Paps! Close that!

Stupid Gameday, I'm pretty sure by the velocity and the break and position of that strikeout pitch from Paps was a splitter, and they call it a fastball.

The world as we know it is over.

Especially considering its 12-2 Baltimore.
SFFM38
..., Yeah I know its over.. but I should have said that this could be a bad sign for us.. A-Rod could go on a tear for next 2 or 3 weeks.

Congrats on your first ML win, kid. Very well deserved.

Great job by Paps.

Fear not. Pitching wins championships, and the MFYs don't have any.
Jack Hayden
Pitching, offense, and defense all contribute to winning. I'm not worried about the yanks. It's just nice to see that the sox seem to have enough of all three.

I was about to say the same thing. Of course the team that pitches the best usually wins, that means they gave up less runs.

I'm pretty excited about this team, especially when Beckett starts dominating teams again. Not that he's pitching badly, just not as good as he can.

So now it's 12-2. Relax.

As long as you have Baltimore's bullpen.

Not relaxing so much with that kind of lead and the Tigers' pen.

Anyway, between the Celtics and some other things I only caught pieces of the game yesterday. Looked to me like Masterson went sidearm a little bit more this time around, but maybe I'm just not remembering his first outing accurately. Misremembering Masterson. Earth shattering analysis time: He looked good once again, either way.
