Full Version: Going to Camden Yards May 30-June 2?
Royal Rooters > WE'RE TALKIN' BASEBALL > RED SOX - OFF THE FIELD
RedSoxAnni
We have been contacted by representatives of the National Aquarium in Baltimore, near Camden Yards. We will have a four-pack of tickets for admission to the Aquarium for a member of RedSoxNation.net. You will be able to pick up your tickets at the "will call" desk at the Aquarium when you travel to Baltimore.

If you are going with your kids, this would be a great way to spend Friday or Saturday afternoon before the game! A nice, air-conditioned aquarium!

Even if you don't win the tickets, consider the Aquarium as part of your trip to Baltimore. He're the website:

National Aquarium in Baltimore

Currently, there's an exhibit on Australia

one on frogs

and, of course...

The National Aquarium was rated #1 for all Baltimore things to do and is
a favorite attraction among visitors to the area. It houses over 16,000
animals and hundreds of different exhibits like: "Animal Planet
Australia: Wild Extremes," a new 4-D theatre, and an exciting live
dolphin show. The Aquarium's location in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, which
is in walking distance to the stadium, makes it easy to plan a visit
before or after a game.

You can order tickets online using the link on the website.

Now, how to get the family four-pack...

Answer the following EIGHT trivia questions. Each one has a Red Sox association. Send your answers to me, RedSoxAnni, via PM before 1 pm on Friday, May 23. The first person to get all the answers correct wins the tickets. I will use the time stamps to determine who was first. If no one gets all the answers, the person who has the most correct answers before 1 pm Friday, May 23 wins. You can enter more than once if you want to "correct" your answers.

If you win, you will have to provide me with your real name, address, and email address. You will be contacted by the Aquarium representative via email and given information on how to pick up your tickets.

So, here goes...

1. Who is the all-time leader in post-season home runs?

2. Who has the best winning percentage of all Red Sox pitchers with a minimum of 75 decisions?

3. Who is second?

4. Who is the only Sox player to go 6-for-6 in a game?

5. Who holds the major league record for RBIs in a game by a pitcher?

6. Who holds the Sox record for pitching consecutive scoreless innings?

7.Who is the only Sox player to have a save in an All-Star game?

8. Who are the last two Sox players to win back-to-back batting titles?

Go for it!

Anni

NOTE: Please do not post answers in this thread until after 1 pm Friday.

Any takers?

This is an opportunity for us to interact with other groups off the Board...

Someone has got to be going to these games!

MFLetou
I'm going, but its a mommy-daddy only game--my parents are watching Little MFLetou. So no aquarium for us. Plus, our kid is scared of fish anyway.

I'm not allowing my son to go to a professional baseball game unless its being played at 4 Yawkey Way, Boston, MA.

RSNLoyalty04
I'm probably going on Friday...interesting.

You're saying we have ZERO entries???

C'mon people...I'd be all over this if I didn't live in California! You just need ONE correct answer to qualify!

We don't have zero, but it would be nice to see others give it a try.

I will open the trivia contest to the board, with no prize, of course, after I've closed the contest.

RedSoxAnni
We have a WINNER!

GreenMountainSoxFan is going to the Aquarium!

Say hi! to the dolphins for us!

And don't kiss the frogs!

The trivia contest is now open to anyone who wants to try.

Awesome! Thanks Anni!
BigSlick
Well I know the 6-6 was Nomar at Philly in one of the most hearbreaking regular season losses I've ever seen.

Number 5 and Number 7 are NOT correct.

We've got some discrepancies regarding number 6, but if the info GreenMountainSoxFan provided is correct, Number 6 is NOT correct as well.

Actually, now that I've answered I've done some digging and I got almost ALL of them wrong! How embarrassing...by my count, I only got 2 & 4 right, and 4 had already been answered. biggrin.gif Maybe I should resign from the Research Desk position...

1. Who is the all-time leader in post-season home runs?
Bernie Williams - this answer was I think correct before 2007, but isn't now.

2. Who has the best winning percentage of all Red Sox pitchers with a minimum of 75 decisions?
Pedro Martinez! - this was correct

3. Who is second?
Smoky Joe Wood - not correct, Wood is 3rd on this leader board.

4. Who is the only Sox player to go 6-for-6 in a game?
Nomah - correct

5. Who holds the major league record for RBIs in a game by a pitcher?
Wes Ferrell - not even close...there is a pitcher who hit two grand slams in one game (not involving the Sox in any way, FWIW)

6. Who holds the Sox record for pitching consecutive scoreless innings?
Babe Ruth - 99% sure this is incorrect

7.Who is the only Sox player to have a save in an All-Star game?
Mel Parnell - close but no cigar...was a teammate of the correct answer

8. Who are the last two Sox players to win back-to-back batting titles?
Wade Boggs & Pete Runnels - yep and nope
RedSoxAnni
I missed your No. 3. Wood is wrong. GreenMountain got it right.

As for No. 5, he did not play for the Sox, but has a connection to the Sox.

Mel Parnell is not correct.
