RedSoxAnni
Game time: 9:05 pm EDT, 6:05 pm PDT

Scheduled starters: Josh Beckett (5-3, 4.67) v. Justin Duchscherer (3-3, 2.67)

The game will be on NESN

Oakland weather: 2 pm PDT (5 pm EDT) observation at KOAK: wind out of the south at 3 mph, visibility 10 miles in light rain, broken clouds at 3,400 feet, overcast layer at 10,000 feet, temperature 58F, DP 45F

Forecast: Drizzly... That upper level low has moved in a retrograde direction and is now sitting over northern California, with bands of light rain pinwheeling around it. It looks like there's some heavier rain east of the coast, and there's a forecast for snow in the mountains... The stations around Oakland and SF have been reporting intermittent light rain for most of the afternoon, with amounts measured in hundreths of an inch. It looks like a cool, drizzly night at the ballpark, but they'll play the game.

The wind will be blowing from right to left.

It's time for Beckett to right the ship after last night's weak start to the road trip. Was that the third time this season that the Sox have had to face Harden? The dude only stays healthy enough to pitch like 100 innings a year and the Sox have faced him for right around 20 innings unless I'm mistaken. That's just absurd. It's time to take out those frustrations on Duchscherschererchser.

Can we come back home? Please?

Maybe the Celts' road win will inspire the Sox. They can use some inspiration, because this is starting out like a good old fashioned West Coast death march.

Not that the Red Sox need the money, but the A's ought to pay the Red Sox royalties when they play out here. That dump was almost full tonight. Against any other team (OK, Yankees), they're lucky to get 20,000 people on a Saturday night. Back to my jinx status when I go to a Sox game. It was temporarily broken by Lester's 5 - 0 win over the elephants back in April. Get'em tomorrow, Jon.

Who is Johnny Vander Meer?

A pitcher who was in the league for about 15 years, had a .500 career w/l and who somehow threw back to back no hitters.

you and Looies both. This was the second (and last) "rock the plaza outfield seats w/ the family" for Looies. Overall, that's pretty good Mojo, but not last nite. Beckett threw a lot of pitches the first two innings, leading the the first (and only needed) A's run in the 2nd. He settled down, whiffed the side once, and other than the mistake to Sweeney, was very effective-hitting 96-97 regularly and good breaking stuff. That said, when all the Sox can manage is Tek taking one on the body for the team and a Papi blooper single against Justin freaking Duchscherer, well, 'settling down to be effective' really doesn't cut it banghead.gif. MDC was ordinary at best despite some serious gas on the heater, but by then it really didn't matter. Still, it was good to take the family out to the gameand once again Princess led the clapping section biggrin.gif

Agree with all of that except Papi's single was a line shot. Pedroia hit a deep shot to right in the same inning, but almost right at the RFer. The A's had been missing the boat not starting Duchscherer.

heh-that's part of the Plaza OF 'blind spot' you lose the ball as it nears the OF wall. Oh, and other highlights such as they were-the K and throwout by Tek to nab a would be SB. Ellsbury made a nice running catch in LF and nearly ran down a foul after running a loooong way.
