NEW YORK, May 27 (Reuters) - The Cincinnati Reds will unveil one of baseball's top hitting prospects later on Tuesday after promoting outfielder Jay Bruce from their Triple-A club for the series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
I mean, he's probably overrated since he doesn't walk much and was rushed. Not at all exciting news.
NL ROTY should be interesting, to say the least.

Soto and Votto are obviously the two front runners, and their counting stat buffers will make it tough for Bruce to eclipse both of them. Jurrjens is also a strong candidate, if he can stay consistent throughout the long season (which is always tough for rookie starting pitchers).

Ryan Braun 2007 blarg blarg.
Not sure if the buffer stats counter-act the potential "hitting the wall" of their first 162 game season. But, in that ballpark, I could see Bruce hitting about the same number of HR as Votto total with more swipes and a higher AVG.
But, it is just entering June and we've got a whole lot of baseball to play. So anything could happen. Braun didn't sew up the award until late September, he and Tulo were neck and neck. And we all remember what happened to Jonathan Papelbon and Fransisco Liriano in 2006.

Bah, kid only went 3-3 with a SB, 2 BB, 2 RBI, and 2 R.
No HR. This kid is overrated slag.

I mean, sure, it's only been 5 games, but Bruce is hitting .579, 4 RBI, 5 BB, 1 K, 8 R, 2 SB and hit his first ML HR last night.
It was a walk-off.

Can Jay Bruce be the first ever?
Filed under: Uncategorized — Sean Forman @ 3:17 pm
At least the first in the retrosheet-era. Since 1956, no player with more than 50 career AB’s has ever had a batting average of more than .300 after every at bat of their career. With his 3 for 3 start, Bruce has a shot at doing this and could even survive an 0 for 6 tonight.
There are lots of guys with 5 or fewer AB’s who qualify, but these are the players with at least 5 AB’s followed by the lowest BA they had at the end of any game, who also got a hit in their first career plate appearance. (a couple of them I suppose could have had a 1 for 3 followed by a 1 for 3 with a hit in their last at bat, but I’m not going to check all of them).

It's a franchise fantasy league that many of us are in. WAU = The Wood, the Abad and the Uggla. Usually when Curll is starting a thread on a propect here he's doing it because it's his player being called up and thus is stroking himself with one hand and typing with the other, or so I speculate as I have never witnessed this but I think some others in the league have.

I see, thanks for the info. I'll have to check out the league soon. Also, there has to be at least 50 words in that second sentence.

LoS, Bruce is on the WAU Reds. And was the top ranked prospect in baseball. And he's good. Nothing to do with WAU. Nor did the Kershaw thread, really. He just happens to be the top ranked pitching prospect in baseball.
Shame on me for being excited.
Has a player ever won Player of the Month, in his first call up to the Majors? This kid is doing everything right so far.

Since 2003 (MLB's archive only goes back that far) there has only been one month where a rookie won Player of the Month...Ryan Braun, in July of 2007. That wasn't his first month in the majors, though, so unless anyone can find an archive of PoM winners prior to 2003 I think the answer is "no".
P.S. I would suspect that Pujols' April performance in 2001 might have been good enough to win PoM: .370/.431/.739, 8 HR, 27 RBI
P.P.S. God bless Wikipedia. Checking there, Pujols did NOT win it, the closest I can find is Garrett Anderson who won in July 1995, his first FULL month in the bigs.

Yes, thank you for the research. It just validates how amazing this kid has been. How the hell did we not get him in the Arroyo trade instead of Pena, (for all you douches who could not get to reply quick enough-------sarcasm!)

I have a thread in the Dodgers forum called "Deep throating every inch of Clayton Kershaw". I don't think it gets much clearer than that. Regardless, I think all of the top, top tier prospects are currently in the majors (Joba, Buchholz, Scherzer, Kershaw, Longoria, Bruce). Maybe when LaPorta (Whom I hate) or Weiters make it up this year, I'll start a thread.
But, anyway, it's nice to see Bruce up in the bigs and producing. I wonder how long they'll keep him in CF, swirling rumors that he'll eventually move to right. But, I don't see why.

To make room for that stud - Corey Patterson, who couldn't hit a cow in the ass with a shovel.
