Royal Rooters > THE COOLER > ROYAL ROOTERS ARCHIVES > 2008 REGULAR SEASON GAME THREADS
RedSoxAnni
Game time: 7:05 pm

Scheduled starters: Jon Lester (3-3, 3.55) v. Garrett Olson (4-1, 4.09)

The game will be on NESN.

Baltimore weather: 4 pm observation at KBWI: Wind calm, visibility 9 miles, broken layer at 5,000 feet, overcast layer at 10,000 feet, temperature 68F, DP 65F

Forecast: It looks like the worst of the weather has moved to the southeast away from Baltimore, but there's enough instability to fire off more thunderstorms through the night. There's some nasty weather in the area, though. The remnants of an MCS went through the Baltimore area earlier in the day, and right now there's a tornado warning near Frederickburg and a tornado watch for much of northern VA. Baltimore is north of the watch area, and it looks like the worst is over.

There's still a chance of rain and thunderstorms tonight, but they are likely to be able to play the game, although there could be a delay.

The wind will be out of the west later in the evening, and will be blowing from left to right.

Long ball is good...
Come on, Manny! I'm getting sick of this crap.

Oh, and it seems I have the board all by myself... where the hell did everybody go?

Wow! No one is here!

That was awesome.

That was awesome!!!

I just want to say too that there are no better away announcers than Thorne and Palmer. They are the most unbiased guys you will come across. ( Except for the whole Mirabelli and the bloody sock thing wink.gif )
amanuel777
Finally! Now he's gonna relax and start raking. Just watch.
rominer
I say this in the nicest way possible, because I'm very much a Manny supporter and defender...

...but it is kind of fitting that his 500th HR came on a day when he half-assed a couple of plays in left field, isn't it?

Let's close this out and get Manny the win.
SteelSox
2 in a row Paps....2 in a row.

If that Ortiz injury is anything, then let's hope so.

That was the weirdest injury I've ever seen. Papi had best be ok.

Actually, no. Second weirdest. Rip Hamilton injuring his right arm while using his left arm to put Ray Allen in a chokehold was probably the weirdest ever. Weird week, I guess.

BigSlick
Damn, I just realized, Didn't MFL say he was going to be at tonights game? lucky bastard.

Yeah, what happened to Papi? I only have gameday for this game.

I just hope he didn't tell Tito "I hear something pop."

The good news is that it isn't the hamate bone. He had that removed after breaking it as a Twin.

Edit.. Actually, I just googled it to be sure, it was the hamate on his right hand that he had removed.

So it could be the hamate in the left. Yeesh.

Meanwhile, Paps can't find the plate.

He fouled a pitch down the left field line, and then grabbed his left hand or wrist afterwards. No idea what actually happened. Hopefully just that dead feeling you get in your arm when the ball hits exactly the wrong spot on the bat. I've never seen anything like it.
SteelSox
Wow a fitting ending to a weird game.

WATAH!!!
2 Road wins in a row. Let the streak begin.
BigSlick
WATER!!!!!

Great hustle by Pedroia to get to the bag.

It had better not be Papi's hamate. I know Pedroia played with a broken one for the last two months of the year last season, but it has crippled other hitters. Just about the only way to break it is to be playing golf, tennis or baseball.

You didn't see him on TV? He's the one who got the ball. He's a secret Asian man*.

*Actually, no. The odds would be very strongly against that. He went to my high school. I think that school has had a total of like 23 Asian students† in its entire history.

†That's why I went there. Stupid Asians**.

**I'm totally joking about that. Please.

Thanks, Rominer. Weird, indeed. I hope it's just some nerve reaction and not an actual nerve injury...
I'm dealing with one myself and it's been 5 months of pain already. banghead.gif

Congrats to Manny on 500!!! First pitch I saw in the game too...phew smile.gif

Yes, I was there! One of the better games I've seen in person in the last few years. Great atmosphere in the ballpark. Even better than your usual Fenway South crowd--there was really no organized Oriole precense whatsoever. Granted, I was in Da Club, but there was literally one Oriole fan in my entire section. I'm not even exaggerating.

Awesome reaction for Manny after the HR...and in between innings, when he walked out to the field--goosebumps. The whole stadium...it was as loud as it was on Cal Ripken night (I was there for that too)...and much louder than Nomo no hitter night (yes, I was there for that, too---my track record in Baltimore is quite good!)

Maybe not his greatest night in the field, but...its sort of fitting.

I got a text from my sister today that said she had great tickets to the game. Lucky jerk.

Congrats Manny.

Do we share a sister?

Apparently my sister was (also?) at the game.

A night to remember for sure, good for you being there. Where in the park is Da Club? Guessing left field seats?

I was in section 264 (down the left field line) and there were 2 yankee fans, 2 orioles fans and 100 sox fans. The usher kept joking with everyone to sit down when Manny was up, haha. I noticed there were a bunch of Oriole fans back behind home plate but other than that they were quite outnumbered.
